Michael, I am dealing with some health challenges and today was a three appointment day. I finally got home, with some good food, and tuned you in. This react soothed and excited me. She was indeed always totally amazing. Completely removed my difficult day. (and I will likely try it on my ukulele.). I love what you do. It is always what I need. Thank you. 💕🙋🎶💕.

Beautiful video Michael. Been on Etta since I was a young kid just starting out on guitar…watched the Austin City Limits with Dr John, her, BB King, Stevie Ray, Paul Butterfield, Chaka, Billy Ocean, etc., and she stole the show. At 11-12 years old I was unfamiliar with her, been listening ever since.

I had the honor of playing a bill with Etta once and saw her perform half a dozen times outside that and she was the greatest act ..what a band...she could send chills up your spine...At Last is maybe the greatest single ever and Tell Mama is one of my alltime favorite recordings...she was the real deal...RIP....my friend did sound for her the few years before she passed and said she was hard to work with when drinking heavily. She's an ingrained part of my musical soundtrack for life.....good video Michael and thanks for giving her her due....I'll never forget watching her open for the Jerry Garcia Band once and they couldn't follow her band....they gave up and Jerry brought her back to finish the show. That lady had the blues.

I particularly enjoyed your expressions especially at 8:15 or so when you were "startled" and perhaps ready to hit the ground running, but you stuck with it and at 12:29 you see the purpose of discipline in music to get them in the palm of your hand or just produce great music for your own sanity. But the big thing I got from it- those guys voices just boomed! I guess it was from performing outside for years. It would give you chill bumps just from the tone of their voices. This song is an absolute masterclass on player/band interaction. This is what I try to explain to youngsters who've never played in a group without charts or click tracks. There's *so much* to this kind of music played live that you just don't get with modern productions, and to me, that's the best part.
I know I've suggested it to you before, but if you haven't, you should check out James Cotton's "Slow Blues." Absolutely crushes it. Real similar vibe to Etta James (which is saying a lot).

I love how you are teaching us about good music... I know it's subjective what we all like but the essence is the same. It has to make you feel.
So many songs on this channel which do exactly just that.
Mike, no need to get the camera out but please have a listen to Ren X Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines (live). You might remember Ren from The Big Push (buskers from Brighton playing incredibly soulful blues -I only found them via your channel. Thank you) This tune seems pretty simple yet the lyrics hit hard like sideways by Travis Meadows.... Really makes you feel.

Thanks! Awesomeness squared is right. It doesn't get any better than that. For some reason I never paid much attention to Etta James and never saw her live. I missed something special.
It's not guitar focused but I've been jonesing for live music and have been rewatching some of my favorite Mamamoo tv and concert performances from a few years ago like Delilah (the Tom Jones song) and their Immortal Songs Medley. Different style, country and language but they've got great vocal chops and even though at that time they'd only been around for a year or two they already owned the stage and the audience like they were seasoned vets a la Etta at Montreux. The Immortal Songs Medley is an 11 minute tour de force and they did a terrific re-arrangement of Delilah with a cool House of the Rising Sun-esque guitar accompaniment in the intro leading to a quote from Concierto de Aranjuez just before the song takes a dramatic left turn. Delilah blew my mind the first time I saw it and it never fails to put a smile on my face.
