Maratac Mini LEP Cosmos Laser Flashlight

Tonight we take a look at the crazy bright Maratac Mini LEP Cosmos laser flashlight. This is not an LED flashlight, it's an LEP flashlight. LEP stands for Laser Excited Phosphor. The best explanation of a LEP laser that i could find was written by Derrick James, found here:

"Laser excited phosphor (LEP) is the process of emitting a blue laser through a focused lens onto a phosphor element backed by a metal substrate. The laser is then reflected (bounced) off the phosphor and converted to broad-spectrum light. So this Maratac Mini LEP Cosmos is essentially a white beam laser that runs off a AA / 14500 battery. You can use a regular AA battery just fine, but the light will be brighter and run longer with a 14500 Lithium Ion battery, sold separately. This flashlight has 3 modes, a high beam, a low beam, and a strobe. At 260 lumens on high, it's rated distance: 2600 feet / 1/2 mile throw / visible for over 25 miles. That's Crazy. Maybe try flipping the lens over. I have the ti antman (essentially the same light in a different body) and I can’t say I’ve ever had to “refocus” it after removing the lens. However I have found that the beam is a little weird if I put the lens in upside down. Mostly in that I get a less clean beam with more artifacts around the edges. Mine also has a slight rattle if I shake it. It’s there even when the lens is removed as well. I noticed it shortly after getting the thing but it’s never seemed to have any effect on performance.

Yes. Unlike more LED flashlights, this uses a laser through some special optics. That's why its very narrow beam.
