Have 3 of the 4 on my board just the black one have never tried and super flexible - ox stomp would be the perfect match for direct recording with these … silk is a fabulous tool in the kit

Decided to cash in on the recent Digitech Bad Monkey hyped price, and get some trade in store credit with it at my local Music-Go-Round. Saw one of these Vox Silk Drive pedals at a good price and in good condition. Needless to say? The Vox is exactly what I was needing. Covid and my GF's health issues forced me to purge a lot of gear over the past two years, mainly all my amps. I had been getting by with amp plugins, but trying to use analog pedals direct into my audio interface just wasn't cutting it TBH. Especially clean boosts. Yikes!
This Silk Drive in preamp mode however? Magic!
There's soo much versatility in this thing!
    Just wow.
Now I'm seriously wanting one of each from the entire Valve Energy line!
I willing to bet the Cutting Edge (Hi-gain) & Mystic Edge (AC30) would sound absolutely epic blended together in parallel!
    Great demo man.
    Thanx
    ✌🤟🖖

Glad you dig it! I think these Vox pedals are being discontinued, so you may be able to find a good price on those. The built in cab simulation sounds a little too dark, so yeah preamp mode and cab simulation in a DAW is a great choice.

@@AlexPriceMusician Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I agree in the built in cab sim. I wish pedal and amp companies would just forgo analog filtered cab emulation at this point.
I will say that I just tried this pedal in preamp mode with ML Sound Lab's new Mikko2 cabinet software, and wow! My jaw literally hit the floor! I was running the Silk Drive basically as a pedal platform with a phase 90 & Big Muff Deluxe, and OH MAN! I was getting my Siamese Dream on for sure.
Forward looking tho? I feel like the Copperhead Drive and Mystic Edge are going to achieve more of my overall bread and butter core tones, and I also think the 1/8th inch cable "link" feature will definitely be getting put to good use once I get thos into my guitarsenal.
Thanks again for the kind reply. Cheers!

I forgot I was looking for some audio examples of the thing .... but I rather pay attention to the phrasing .... I need more mini master classes like that.

I saw a video that this pedal got very fuzzy but not at all in others. Can it fuzzy or not? I quite like that wooly fuzzy sound but not too much into overdrive dist even on max... Thanks

Hey Alex! Have you tried Silk Drive or Mystic Edge with an IR or algorithm-based cab sim?

    • @AlexPriceMusician
      @AlexPriceMusician  Год назад +1

Yes - I’ve used the Sonic IR loader, IRs in the Helix, and IRs in space designer in Logic.

I just ordered 2 from Vox, btw, who are having a nice sale on them!

I bet that is a 64-65 original strat, has that sunburst color they had then and the lam fingerboard and 65 logo too?

It's a 2017 Custom Shop, but it's modeled after a '60s spec strat. Awesome instrument!

@@AlexPriceMusician Thanks, I tried to buy a slightly used custom shop 65 reissue back in 2006, I made a really Great offer on it, but they would not come close to any discount off on it, so left without it, thank God I did not play it 1st, because then the OH, I got to have it here is the extra money for it Kicks in.

I have the mystic edge and there are many great things about it as a preamp. My main complaint is it is as picky ,if not more picky than a real Vox amp, when it comes to what drive pedals work with it. Have you noticed that the silk Drive is more pedal friendly when it comes to drives, while functioning in preamp mode? My favorite tone is a tweaked tweed bassman. So I am torn between trying the copperhead and silk Drive.

Myself also, as people said before that the Marshall emu can be used as 3 channel amp... But I like the way this one can be clean and wooly fuzz in a video that I saw...

Great pedal! Love mine however the cab sim mide is way too muddy on mine (for a direct clean pedal platform) and I take the bass way down and the treble up but then it doesn't take pedals well :(. Still searching for the right IR for the preamp mode, which is very bright lol

I had the same thought, but I refused to give up on it, I've found some very pleasant results by placing a Xotic EP booster after the Silk Drive. I use it live, I love it

@@aaronchong9856 sounds good :). I haven't given up on mine either. I actually found some half decent IRs, and also just using standard mode. In cab sim mode I used an eq pedal after and got it sounding really nice also. Think the mystic edge would have been better for me as my tube amp is voxish and I just want to replicate it's sound direct really so I don't have to tweak any pedal settings.

Yeah I don’t care much for cab sim mode on this either; it sounds too dark played through my Acoustic a20 amp. I bought a Zoom G1X Four mainly to get cab sims and it sounds really great especially with their 2x12 sims. One of these days I’ll switch to an IR loader but I can’t decide which one to buy.
