another trick for making sure the selection includes going under part of your line art is clicking select>expand selection and you only need a few pixels and it will prevent any random pieces of color from under neath showing if you want that it also helps close some of those gaps early on lol
i've only just started holding the paint bucket down and moving the cursor, which will automatically fill everything you're pointing at. compared to individually clicking section by section. and you've given even MORE ways to save time, thank you so much! i haven't realised how much i made life so much more complicated than it should be haha
the first 8 seconds of this video is basically me everytime I'm coloring after doing line art. i didn't even knew what most of the settings for the paint bucket tool did, thank you for this video! It'll definitely speed up my process and make things more fun
Dude, the close gap setting has confused me for years that I just lasso'd or manually painted cause I was in art mode and wanted to work on the painting instead of figuring the settings out. This finally made it click for me. Thank you!
ooooooooohhh buddy did you not know about the "clip to layer" setting :0 i hope not cause im gonna blow your mind right now (otherwise this is a quick tip for anyone who doesnt know) in the layers window left of he set as reference setting is an icon of two boxes overlapping (clip to layer below) so after you have a good fill, (1:40) make a layer for flats above the fill but below the line art. then set it to clip to layer below this functions like a reverse mask layer now and only pixels that overlap on the fill layer will be visible. you can think of it like the "lock transparent pixels" setting but on a separate layer take out your big boy brush (mines called uncle fill) and go to town you wont be able to go outside the lines. the best part is you can stack clipped layers which makes flats super easy (it will always refer to the bottom layer) if you wanna clean it up a bit you can use the magic wand tool set the subtool settings to refer to all and click the empty space and delete it erasing the invisible pixels and leaving a perfect flat. or don't. it wont matter when/if you flatten the image the program will auto delete any transparent pixels anyway
I have been using this program for years, but ONLY AFTER watching your video the tool worked. Thank you! You sImplified (or save?) my life... as an artist 🤩😆 P.s: Great drawing, I like it ❤😁
One trick that I noticed in speed art vids is that you can paint around the area you want to color, then fill the remaining area with the Paint Bucket Tool.
I'm a newb, I find that it's easier to deal with spillover than using a mask, because if the selected area isn't perfect when you use mask, it then beats the purpose.
Yeah the issue with Photoshop is there the quick selection tools are really abysmal. Magic wand plus expand/contract are similar but still a pita to use
I had no idea it existed before making the video (someone pointed it out to me). I will definitely mention it in a future one where I go over the best time saving features of clip studio
What about places where colors border each other through lines? When trying to use the tool Paint unfilled area , the color appears on the back side of the line In theory, this can be hidden by the top layer, but the top layer may also have places where it is necessary to fill the voids on the border, and then the previous layer overlaps where it is not needed. Any ideas?:(
For that I used different layers, filling the larger areas first. Some manual correction is always needed in clip studio in the end anyway (sadly). SAI has a much better wand tool, but lacks the rest (especuially the life saving liquify)
@@theartofnemo Thanks for the answer, I didn't expect :) Well, during this time I have already found for myself a slightly different way to optimally paint I paint over large areas Fill - Refer other layers And I fill in small jambs Paint unfilled area - Area surrounded by black This thing just prevents the color from going beyond the boundaries of the lines And in general it turns out pretty good :) Of course there are small holes of a couple of pixels, but they can be easily removed But the information about masks and references in your video was very useful to me Really cool thing

Glad it was useful for you! Yes you can just drag the paint bucket too :D Some tricks one learns and then forgets if not often used

I have done that too many times myself 😅

Glad it helped! :D

Yeah I just prefer masks usually :D I like to organize in folders! But thanks for the extra tip!

Thanks, man. This saved me tons of time!

Just saved me hours worth of time, thx mate, very straight forward. 🍉🍉

Yeah I think SAI still does it better
Thank you so much for making this! I'll save me soo much time!
thank you!!
Thankyou!
i dont understand i do all of this but the layer below is colored and doesnt show, the line art just covers all of it. Can you please help?
Is the line art layer transparent?
dayum
I had a good laugh at the first few seconds (me in a nutshell)
When I use the pincel in my laptob
Insted of drawing it moves the slide that I'm working on...
How can I fix that ❓️
Do you know if there’s one similar for procreate?
hmm my apple pen is broken and i can't check. I haven't used procreate in ages but I can see it does have a magic wand (next to the wrench icon)
0:35 say that.... again.
Hop to my magic wand tool?
How did you create the new folder with the layer mask?
Ctrl click on the layer with the shape you want. With the selection, make a new folder and click the mask button
@@theartofnemo ohhh, I didn't know about that keybind! Thank you so much!

Well, during this time I have already found for myself a slightly different way to optimally paint
I paint over large areas Fill - Refer other layers
And I fill in small jambs Paint unfilled area - Area surrounded by black
This thing just prevents the color from going beyond the boundaries of the lines
And in general it turns out pretty good :)
Of course there are small holes of a couple of pixels, but they can be easily removed
But the information about masks and references in your video was very useful to me
