  • Definitely Internet is our main way of communication, specially if we’re out of the country. It’s widely known that most service providers offer a roaming service, but this option is too expensive, specially with the continuos use we give to the internet on our smart devices.
So, whenever you’re coming to DR, you must get a local SIM card to use with your smartphone or tablet. This way you can stay connected throughout your trip, share instantly your experience and if you’re an influencer, even go live as you vacation in the island.
We have 3 main service providers that you could choose from, and I’ll tell you about a dealbreaker of each one.
First is Claro, Claro is the major Internet and Phone service provider in the country. I has some affordable Internet Packages ready to use after you purchase your SIM card and it’s app is very user friendly, letting you monitor in realtime how much internet you’ve used and instant recharge using a credit or debit card. This service has the majority of the island coverage and serves best your internet needs.
Then, we have Altice, which has a solid coverage in urban areas and provides a somewhat alike internet package as Claro, with the difference that you have cheaper options to recharge your service for lower amounts of time or speed.
Last but not least, Viva, has a somewhat unstable coverage, but works like a charm on open spaces. What makes Viva interesting is that have an internet device to connect up to 4 smart devices to it. The other two providers have it too but attached to a 18months lease.

Hello and thank you for a nice video. I never worked out of any country like you. I'm in Canada and want to go to hotel area La Romana, but we fly to Punta Cana. I need internet for my kid to be online in School, while we are in hotel Viva Wyndham dominicus and some reviews are complaining about there WI-fi. Would we be able to connect out lop top on the plan you were saying? Otherwise have to cancel my vacation. Thanks and all the best

Yes; make sure you pay for an unlimited or high GB internet plan to better handle zoom calls

If you mean portable wifi modems you can get them but not prepaid; you’d need to enter a long term contract
