Create 3D Clamshell (.OBJ) using Illustrator & Photoshop for Adobe Dimension product mock-ups

- This video is for designers who are unfamiliar with 3D software and looking for a tool to create 3D nutritional supplement containers and mockup scenes. Adobe Dimension is a simpler interface to use and consistent with its series of Illustrator and Photoshop programs versus having to learn a new 3D interface and shortcuts.
Here are the working files and mockup available with a donation (Thank you!).

@@ashleycam3ron hi Ashley, boxes would be great!
such a complicated workflow. adobe needs to start thinking about finishing Substance Modeler or another product-oriented 3D Shaper
Great tutorial!! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the great tutorial!
hey Ashley, thanks for the very wonderful videos, keep it up, i would like to see a tutorial of a flat sided whiskey bottle or of any kind, how you go about it, especially the extrusion part of, i will be very grateful to for your assistance to this regard.
Great suggestion! I'll practice and see what I can come up with. Thanks for watching and commenting! I'll let you know if/when I can get it posted.
@@ashleycam3ron i was trying out a Whiskey bottle of JACK DANIELS, i have tried & tried, but i have froze, am okay with the Oval like shapes, am now very interested to trying out Square flat sides with Oval....am using Coreldraw suite 2020, Adobe Photoshop & Adobe Dimension. i learnt something new from yo videos, which i wasnt doing in my works, thanks so much, i highly appreciate yo effort to this regard...
Oooh yea, upon closer inspection, I'm not sure that can be made in Photoshop:( I'm thinking it'll have to be Blender. I'm a newbie to Blender. 😬
@@ashleycam3ron thanx so much that means, i need to explore other 3D software for better output, i wish photoshop should look into this n make it more interesting, there are complex objects, i tried but collapsed, i tried to extrude an oil jerrycan but the process hit a dead end.
@@ashleycam3ron hey, can u drop me mail on deen.hank8@gmail.com, i came up with an idea of a flat bottle, would like to share it with u, if u don't mind.
Fantastic tutorial, I almost found the solution for my problem.
Almost - because one the .obj imported in Dimension I can apply Adobe standard materials or Substance materials on it but it’s impossible to apply an image on it. Strange things are happen, first the image is good quality and once zoomed out it becomes jagged and it’s impossible to stretch it on the whole surface of the object because some crossed lines are visible... any idea why?
I’ve changed the “placement” of the image from Decal to Fill and it’s better but still want to find the reason why is like that. Please suggest what can be done.
Thank you. Yes, I know what you mean. I have the same issue(s) also depending on the complexity of the object and if there are die-cuts. I'm still learning but if I find a solution will try to make a video. I'm focusing more on Blender now than Photoshop 3D.
thx

Ashley, could we do the 3D extrude part in illustrator then drop it into Dimension?
I don't believe so. Couldn't find documentation. I think it's on Adobe Dimension's list to add functionality to extrude, bevel, etc vector shapes. I saw a post about possibly doing a workaround by creating your own font with whatever vector shapes. Then install the font and use the text tool in Dimension. If I get time to try it, I may make a video.
@@ashleycam3ron Fair enough! Thank you for this video - I had been briefed to create some packaging concepts for a candle brand with a cut out so the consumer can smell the candle - and I didn't know how I would deal with it! But this video was timed perfectly! New video idea for you! 😉
What is your pc memory i have 8gb and and i can not work with illustrator and photoshop together very lagging
The laptop I use for most all of my videos is only 8gb. I just upgraded to a 16gb Macbook Pro 13" and I think it cut the render time in half. Still longer than my Dell desktop PC with 32GB ram though. Otherwise, I'd try to show more rendering in my videos but it takes too long.
