you failed too calculate that intel has PCIE gen5 and DDR5 and will only get better as Microsoft collects processor data and manager data in real world application and use them for updates , you forget that intels new 12th gen has a AI scheduler built in . it can only get more efficient and faster
Thank you so much. And for working professional adults like myself it does matter to show 4k results and also 1440p because people who have such CPU's and GPU's don't play at 1080P! You can actually separate the arguments, help show CPU potential with just CPU based benchmarks, but also show the REALITY of playing at 2K/4K. Its not going to diminish anything by doing that.
@@EpicGamingEct Cool story my 5950x runs at 4.7 all 16 cores on Air cooling, PCIE5 is not needed yet but AM5 will have it along with DDR5, AM4 had a long run, you dont need to buy a new mobo after every gen or two like Intel. CPUz and Cinebench says my CPU destroys the 12700k.

Have you tried to find these newer Intel chips? I am an AMD guy for the most part, but in AMD we now have a shortage of CPUs beginning due to Crypto mining with the larger L3 cache. I am not sure why Intel chips are semi hard to find from everything I have been told.
I don't know if I'll get that from Gigabyte, might not be getting any more gaming laptops to review this year, but I guess we'll see. I did the X5 which I think is very similar
I bought Gigabyte A7 X1 (17 inch) when it was $1799 back in July. That's the Ryzen 9 5900HX. Not sure about the availability/price right now, but it was the best deal at that time. And still is if you can find one priced the same.
I found an A5 X1 with the 5900HX for 1.7k USD, although an extra 100 for delivery, so wanted to know if it was worth it at this price. I really like the conservative look, so probably going to get it anyways. Thanks for the advice!
as an owner of i7 12700k its amazing consider that my previous cpu was i3 8100 my opinion is that its worth but u can get something less powerfull if u want to save money
@@Ahria256 No. It has 4 more threads than the 12700K and overall system cost is lower. There are games like Microsoft flight Simulator 2020 that like the 24 thread config of the 5900X, more stable and smoother frametimes. For 100% CPU load, the 12 core chiplet 5900X is more efficient than the i7, and the Big-Little monolithic design of the i7 makes it more powerful and efficient for lightly threaded.
Ram is irrelevent since ddr4 performs almost the same as ddr5 and even better sometimes depending on the game. DDR5 isnt there yet. Id hope if you have a 5900X you werent dumb enough to pair it with a B550 and paired it with atleast a solid X570. People who actually need R9’s also need more than a board with basic features
ye but people who are looking for an upgrade most likely have to get a new motherboard regardless since chips generally only are supported for a few years until a new architecture is released and support for old cpus is dropped. If you're going from last gen to current gen, then sure the total components pricing makes a difference, but for the average joe it isn't really applicable. Also the ddr4 versions of the z690 are cheaper than the ddr5 variants, and have near zero performance setbacks in gaming and a lot of other workloads too.
@@Angel7black not necessarily. As you said the motherboard is about features. If someone does stuff like streaming and video editing, can actually use all those cores but doesn't necessarily need an x570 board with those extra pcie lanes. Performance-wise (vrm...) there are b550 boards that beat most x570s. Basically... needing an r9 and needing an x570 don't always go together. X570 is about having more bandwidth/connectivity basically, while r9 is having more horsepower. Sure many times they go together, but definitely not always. Btw when it comes to the combined mobo+ram+cpu cost, the ram might be irrelevant, the motherboard is not. A motherboard that actually utilizes (ram+cpu overclocking at least) an intel k cpu is expensive af compared to am4 mobos. Roughly twice as expensive compared to x570 boards, which is quite a lot if the difference is 300 usd.
Ryzen is still going to be very popular , simply because of their decision to support 3 gens on the same hardware. It would be insane not to do it again with the next generation.
The only next CPU for AM4 and last one is the Zen3D CPU's or maybe it's just gonna be 1 CPU the 5800X3D CPU but yes AMD has supported AM3 from Zen 1 to Zen 3 and even Zen+ I think and Zen3D which is Zen 3+ I guess lol While Intel has had how many board & socket changes since Zen came out.
Regarding platform cost, one might say that cheaper B series will be available in future. But the thing is those budget motherboards normally don't have adequate VRM design and power delivery capacity to run those power hungry Intel chips at higher wattage all the time, outside Intel's given official TDP, resulting a lot less performance. For Rocket Lake, Hardware Unboxed did the testing with B series motherboards and found out that there is a good amount of performance difference between B series and Z series motherboard while using exact same CPU.

Agreed, but how is it in any way "kicking way above its weight" when it is more comparable to an i9 platform than an i7? And it's still component for component more expensive than the i7 (even after having been out for a year on the market and brought down in price). It's a great cpu no doubt, but it aint kicking above its weight in any stretch of the saying.

I recently upgraded from an older AMD platform to a Z690 and 12700KF, prices seemed to have dropped noticably cause i got the 12700KF off amazon for under $390. Maybe it was a special deal. I spent $292 for a DDR4 Z690 tomahawk but you could get one of MSI’s pro A boards for $220 non wife, $240 wifi and theyre still pretty good even if they look uglier lol. They have solid features too. Id personally say its close to a wash in prices between X570 and Z690. Ngl, B550 is just so much better value than B660. Its rumored that Raptor Lake will support DDR4 as well and that makes sense, so i feel like 12th gen orwait for Zen 4 is the best move right now
I own both Intel and AMD sets up and one thing I wish Intel did that AMD has done is keep the mobo support strong. Comparing the 5 (going on 6) years that Ryzen has currently to the intel series, intel has changed mbo in almost every generation. Ive spent too much upgrading my intel parts compared to my 2700 to 5900x, which only cost me the cpu since my B450 mobo supported newer ryzen cpus.
Question, What B450 are you using? The last I heard MSI was the main/only manufacturer facing backlash from the 5 years of AM4 compatibility statement. Are you on another brand? Wasn't sure if any other brand would try and appease their customers or not.
@@kramnull8962 I have the MSI B450 Tomahawk non Max working with my cpu just fine. All I needed was a simple bio update to the most recent, and undervolt with pbo curve. Its been stable no crashes. I do see plenty of other redditors with the same combo as me successfully have a 5k ryzen on the tomahawk non max.

If you're building a new PC from the ground up, Intel 12th Gen probably makes more sense right now. The issue for Intel is that AM4 had excellent adoption, and you can run the 5900x on B450 and X470 motherboards from 2018. There are a lot of people with Ryzen 2000 and 3000 series CPUs that will see a 5000 series as a better option, since it will just drop right into their existing motherboard. It's worth spending slightly more to have that convenience. When it comes to gaming, 5800x is just as good as 5900x, while being under $400 right now, so that's a good option for many.
I just purchased a i7-12700K along with a Asus ROG Strix DDR4 Z690 Motherboard for my new build with a RTX 3080 Ti. The good thing for red team tho is that AMD will do a Zen 3 refresh with a 15% boost that will be on the AM4 platform unlike blue team with the new LGA 1700 platform leaving the LGA 1200 behind. It'll be AMD's one last push for AM4 until AM5 releases, and that'll be good for the upcoming years for people wanting to upgrade old parts or newcomers wanting to build a PC but that have a tight budget compared to PC enthusiasts. AM4 and LGA 1200 motherboards will serve well for another couple years for cheap !!
Happy with my 5900x / 3080 setup for 1440p. also happy I can stay on windows 10 and not “have” to use 11, which seems like a clusterfuck, for 12th gen. Dislike settings buried within settings within settings…
Jarrod, can you make an analysis of performance per watt? I would very much like to see how these processors perform in that regard both while under heavy load and under light load. I’m almost certain Intel’s lead under load comes at the expense of much higher power consumption, but haven’t seen any performance/watt chart yet. It would also be very useful to have an analysis of power consumption while idle or doing very light tasks such as web browsing or watching RUclips. Intel may have a big power consumption advantage here, but again, I haven’t seen clear comparisons anywhere.
neverending story... always waiting for the next piece, adding a 20€ more expensive piece that totally changes the build cause of availability. Building a good (efficient spending) PC is a chess game.
RAM does play a role in performance, hence you testing the Intel CPU on the best possible DDR5 RAM, while AMD CPU could only work with DDR4 ram is a huge difference and why Intel had such close results to AMD. If testing, the testing should be done with as close of components as possible for each of the tested items. So if DDR4 was used for Ryzen, same DDR4 should have been used for Intel as well
Many tests have shown good DDR4 doing better than than DDR5 for gaming. So there's a chance the 12700k gets more fps if you swap in DDR4. Something to do with the latency of the RAM.
Massive speed difference in the memory I have a 5900X and before I sett the speed of my ram to 3600 it was running about half the speed and the performance difference was huge I don't have the results of the few tests did but I distinctly recall the blender 23 result was over 30% lower with the ram speed not optimized. I would really like to see how these cpus compare with the ram speed set to the same.
Yea, I wondered about this too. 3600Mhz is the general sweet spot for Ryzen, so running tests with 3200Mhz memory doesn't seem like a fair comparison. Of course I get that Intel can run DDR5, and it's fine to use that in the test, but intentionally using slower memory for the AMD system, without any comment on it, is a bit odd.
People will upvote anything nowadays so long as it supports their own preconceived beliefs. No shit you're gonna get almost a 30% improvement by setting your ram speed to 3600 if it was previously running at almost half the speed. You had forgotten to enable xmp/docp fool. You're not gonna see nearly the same level of improvement of performance comparing 3200 to 3600

Definitely better to get a 5900x right now compared to the 12700k. Im currently building my pc and after plenty research I chose to go with the 5900x due to the insane performance for its price right now. The cpu is gonna be 2 years old soon and the 12 gen needed the support of ddr5 to push ahead. The 5900x overall would still cost cheaper if I went with a ddr4 build.. not to mention going ddr5 I would be spending much more. Overall the 5900x is a great build to go with for 2022.
I don't think the choice is cut and dry for either platform. I was saying that AMD had answers for pretty much every alder lake cpu (except the 12600k,) if they did a price drop. Alder lake is a good cpu generation, but without the big punch of lower prices things come a lot more into parity.

So the Ryzen 9 5900X is better than i7-12700K in terms of 3d modelling and rendering, right? Please anyone help me build my first pc and idk what to do, at first I was going with i7-12700k with RTX 3060 but I asked some people on Instagram about it they said that ryzen processor is better for 3d modelling and rendering. Would love to see a 12700k ddr4 vs 12700k ddr5. A lot of us can't even get our hands on ddr5 memory. I just picked up a msi z690 ddr4 and 12700k. Also have a x570 and 5900x. Curious to know If my Intel will still perform with the ryzen on ddr4
@@user-ph1ob6nj7i running the msi z690 ddr4. It was 200$ at microcenter and best buy. Wifi variant is an extra 20. Definitely worth it if u need it since u can't get a wifi card that good for 20 bucks. Performance wise. It will come down go the gpu. Running time spy my 5900x with a evga ftw3 3080 it beat my 12700k with an msi ventus x3 over all score. When I put a evga ftw3 on my 12700k it edged out my 5900x. With thay being said my 12700k is a pain to keep cool. Running a scythe fuma 2 and it will steady hit 80s drawing over 200 watts while my 5900x pulls about 140. It's really up to u and depends where u are at now. If u have am4 already just upgrade cpu if your starting over. U can buy a 12700k and motherboard for cost of a 5900x
@@jsizzle2k6 OK, thank you. So, the problem with the 12700 is the temperature. I have to buy the whole PC for video editing. Some people recommend Intel because of the Quick Sync of the iGPU. Another option is the 12600, which probably will run a bit cooler.
@@user-ph1ob6nj7i yes the i5 will run cooler but the i7 is just a few bucks more usually less then 50. if still looking id go with the i7 definitely. higher resell value and u can always under volt or even under clock and still out perform the i5. hopefully beefier coolers will become readily available for these cpus and adaption brackets for older coolers will become easier to get as well. but either way pulling over 200 watts for a basic i7 is crazy when even the ryzen 9 5950x dont pull that much
@@Carkand Naw that's is the 5950x's job the 5900x costs like $70 more than a i7 12700KF so in the same ball park for price. I should know I was shopping for a new setup tonight and did prices for both Intel & AMD setups. Because I like to push the limits and have actual Over clocking features as well as a sweet feature set the z690 boards I felt would be what I needed were priced well beyond what I consider good pricing. I ended up picking up a 5900x and an ASUS ROG AM4 board with WIFI6 and 2.5GB and a VRM that should get the job done for half the price as the Intel version of the ASUS ROG board which allowed me to get 32GB DDR4 3600 16,18,18 memory instead of only 16GB ram it all arrives Monday according to my order status in my email.
What I would really like to see is a test that includes Resizable Bar/Smart Access Memory. Becuase if you have a Radeon 6000 series GPU and are looking to upgrade or change your Mobo & CPU, the performance gap would likely favor staying with an all AMD platform.
My biggest concern with the 12th gen is using it for work. The risk of it not running , or randomly crashing while using a particular software is a deal breaker.
Total price isn't bad with DDR4. Only the motherboards are more expensive, but I'm using a $190 Asus Z690M (one of the very few microATX Z690 options...) with my 12700K and it works perfectly.
The Office Test is ridicolous, the typical office user is so slow that even an 8086 would outperform the user. If you have workload that would benefit in office of an cpu higher than the 80286, you should think of the tools you are using, and if there is a special software for that usecase (like Excel is not a database solution, even its used often like that), this special software on a 80836 would outperform an officebased solution on an 12900k overclocked. Another claim: as long there is a penalty for ryzen on win 11 vs intel, all the test should be performed in win10 and win11 as long results in win 10 and win11 are inconsistent. Very good you also tested in linux environment.
Jarrod'sTech, thank you for your time. You should explain that it is not only buying another board is also memory, cooling device, and the CPU just only to get 5-11 differential in fps compared to AMD; you can't be serious?
Regarding the 7-zip testing, I imagine this is using LZMA2 with Maximum compression level based on the dictionary size. This is best case for the 5900 due to cache sizes, both the dictionary 32MB and total memory used for decompression 34MB fit within the L3. Would be interesting to see normal (fits in both CPUs caches) and Ultra (fits in neither, though dictionary is close for 5900).
The issue with the 12700k (12gen) is that there are plenty of stuff that have issues with alderlake. For instance I forgot my steam password so I had to reset it and request the reset to my phone/mail but the steam recaptcha does not work on 12gen and I had to reset my password on my 11700k sys. And if you actually test the cpu in 3dmark both in timespy and the 3dmark cpu test the 11700k and 12700k perform pretty much neck to neck and only when the higher thread counts are tested does the 12700k outshine the 11700k. Basically very similar cpu cores but with more cache and additional efficiency cores for better multithread perf. And for gaming you should disable the e-cores but it seems my board does not let me do it with the first bios ver.
To summise, build a 5900x system of a generation at its peak, give 3-5 years for gen 12 to settle in, a great system and a huge financial saving in one...
Intel's cheapest mobo is more than $100+ more vs AMD cheapest mobo that can handle 5950x without throttling (top line amd ) . Also ddr5 is 3x the price. If you use Ddr4, then the gaming advantage for the 12700k at 1080p goes from to 2.2% to 0.4%

Need a 360 AIO upgrade to cool that thing which = humongous case upgrade, psu upgrade, insane power draw and expensive mobo, only to spend 3x more on ddr5 ram which only gives it a 2% lead on the 5950x. I'll pass and get zen 3d in 2 months, which easily needs none of that and it's only a drop in part with much better gaming performance than the 12900k
@@NadeemAhmed-nv2br For price I will stick with 5900x or 5950x when AM5 hits but I can't find a case that is Full Tower and not glass that will handle a 360 radiator as I am tired of all these current fans. A 360 on a 59x0x cpu would be so cool you can make iced tea on it.
I would have used an X570 motherboard with the 5900x as they are a little more performance and feature orientated boards. But overall there is nothing in it. 12th gen have their issues which will get sorted and they are a bit more power hungry. However new cpu's from AMD are just around the corner which will no doubt leapfrog Intel 12th gen.
And the DISGRACE of AMD will support ONLY DDR5 , they have made a deal with ram manufacturers to get a back hander. Naturally the CRAZED AMD cult member s will overpay as always

If you want to build an AMD System with the AMD Ecosystem, I'd suggest waiting until they begin to release DDR5/DDR4 backwards compatible motherboards, or just buy a high end X570 board and get higher speed memory. And that's all if you care. I think the vast majority including the working professionals that can afford what they want won't wait and just get they nicest parts they can afford.
Honestly thats fair but if you always wait them youd get trapped in an endless loop of waiting for the next thing. Raptor Lake is coming at the end quarter of 2022, should we wait for that too? My guess is youd say no. Point is i feel like you should just get what you need now and if you dont need anything just wait then. Especially now that miners are starting to use CPUs to mine, keep in mind that theres already a chip shortage thats effecting TSMC and Samsung at a disproportionate rate compared to Intel who make their own fabs. And its ver cache reliant which is why Ryzen is the go to for CPU mining

To me, Rainbow Six Siege performance always seems strange as it has always been an outlier with the other games. I'd say it's probably "optimized" by AMD so that Intel always run slower despite they've got such an outstanding lightly threaded performance.
Nope. 10900k was the fastest cpu in Rainbow six for a very long time. Zen 3 probably has better latency than 12th gen intel. Ryzen wins in csgo as well in win 10.
@@superneenjaa718 That makes sense because I know Ryzen do have a larger L3 cache. Hence, reduced fetching latency can translate to better frame time and thus better frame rate.
I have a pretty good AMD system 5800x and 6900xt but a friend of mine has been wanting to build a new PC to replace his aging 4 core Intel/ 2080ti system. He was Planning to go Ryzen but I told him about the new Intel...I don't know now though...I guess if you want what is technically the fastest available now , even if not by much then go with intel.. If my friend chooses to hold out a while longer a system based on next gen Ryzen might be better choice

@@sack8439 I side grades from a 3900x to a 5800x and was sad then went to a 5900x and I'm happy again. I use a lot of core I can get up to 60-70% usage so going back to 8 cores sucked for me. The 5900x is a beast!

5900X and the 12700K are both great CPU's. You won't be disappointed with either.

Ram is irrelevent since ddr4 performs almost the same as ddr5 and even better sometimes depending on the game. DDR5 isnt there yet. Id hope if you have a 5900X you werent dumb enough to pair it with a B550 and paired it with atleast a solid X570. People who actually need R9’s also need more than a board with basic features
ye but people who are looking for an upgrade most likely have to get a new motherboard regardless since chips generally only are supported for a few years until a new architecture is released and support for old cpus is dropped. If you're going from last gen to current gen, then sure the total components pricing makes a difference, but for the average joe it isn't really applicable. Also the ddr4 versions of the z690 are cheaper than the ddr5 variants, and have near zero performance setbacks in gaming and a lot of other workloads too.
@@Angel7black not necessarily. As you said the motherboard is about features. If someone does stuff like streaming and video editing, can actually use all those cores but doesn't necessarily need an x570 board with those extra pcie lanes. Performance-wise (vrm...) there are b550 boards that beat most x570s.
Basically... needing an r9 and needing an x570 don't always go together. X570 is about having more bandwidth/connectivity basically, while r9 is having more horsepower. Sure many times they go together, but definitely not always.
Btw when it comes to the combined mobo+ram+cpu cost, the ram might be irrelevant, the motherboard is not. A motherboard that actually utilizes (ram+cpu overclocking at least) an intel k cpu is expensive af compared to am4 mobos. Roughly twice as expensive compared to x570 boards, which is quite a lot if the difference is 300 usd.

Regarding platform cost, one might say that cheaper B series will be available in future. But the thing is those budget motherboards normally don't have adequate VRM design and power delivery capacity to run those power hungry Intel chips at higher wattage all the time, outside Intel's given official TDP, resulting a lot less performance. For Rocket Lake, Hardware Unboxed did the testing with B series motherboards and found out that there is a good amount of performance difference between B series and Z series motherboard while using exact same CPU.

And it's still component for component more expensive than the i7 (even after having been out for a year on the market and brought down in price). I recently upgraded from an older AMD platform to a Z690 and 12700KF, prices seemed to have dropped noticably cause i got the 12700KF off amazon for under $390. Maybe it was a special deal. I spent $292 for a DDR4 Z690 tomahawk but you could get one of MSI’s pro A boards for $220 non wife, $240 wifi and theyre still pretty good even if they look uglier lol. They have solid features too. Id personally say its close to a wash in prices between X570 and Z690. Ngl, B550 is just so much better value than B660. Its rumored that Raptor Lake will support DDR4 as well and that makes sense, so i feel like 12th gen orwait for Zen 4 is the best move right now
I own both Intel and AMD sets up and one thing I wish Intel did that AMD has done is keep the mobo support strong. Comparing the 5 (going on 6) years that Ryzen has currently to the intel series, intel has changed mbo in almost every generation. Ive spent too much upgrading my intel parts compared to my 2700 to 5900x, which only cost me the cpu since my B450 mobo supported newer ryzen cpus.
Question, What B450 are you using? The last I heard MSI was the main/only manufacturer facing backlash from the 5 years of AM4 compatibility statement. Are you on another brand? Wasn't sure if any other brand would try and appease their customers or not.

@@kramnull8962 I have the MSI B450 Tomahawk non Max working with my cpu just fine. All I needed was a simple bio update to the most recent, and undervolt with pbo curve. Its been stable no crashes. I do see plenty of other redditors with the same combo as me successfully have a 5k ryzen on the tomahawk non max.

If you're building a new PC from the ground up, Intel 12th Gen probably makes more sense right now. The issue for Intel is that AM4 had excellent adoption, and you can run the 5900x on B450 and X470 motherboards from 2018. There are a lot of people with Ryzen 2000 and 3000 series CPUs that will see a 5000 series as a better option, since it will just drop right into their existing motherboard. It's worth spending slightly more to have that convenience. When it comes to gaming, 5800x is just as good as 5900x, while being under $400 right now, so that's a good option for many.

I just purchased a i7-12700K along with a Asus ROG Strix DDR4 Z690 Motherboard for my new build with a RTX 3080 Ti. The good thing for red team tho is that AMD will do a Zen 3 refresh with a 15% boost that will be on the AM4 platform unlike blue team with the new LGA 1700 platform leaving the LGA 1200 behind. It'll be AMD's one last push for AM4 until AM5 releases, and that'll be good for the upcoming years for people wanting to upgrade old parts or newcomers wanting to build a PC but that have a tight budget compared to PC enthusiasts. AM4 and LGA 1200 motherboards will serve well for another couple years for cheap !!
Happy with my 5900x / 3080 setup for 1440p. also happy I can stay on windows 10 and not “have” to use 11, which seems like a clusterfuck, for 12th gen. Dislike settings buried within settings within settings…

Jarrod, can you make an analysis of performance per watt? I would very much like to see how these processors perform in that regard both while under heavy load and under light load. I’m almost certain Intel’s lead under load comes at the expense of much higher power consumption, but haven’t seen any performance/watt chart yet. It would also be very useful to have an analysis of power consumption while idle or doing very light tasks such as web browsing or watching RUclips. Intel may have a big power consumption advantage here, but again, I haven’t seen clear comparisons anywhere.

RAM does play a role in performance, hence you testing the Intel CPU on the best possible DDR5 RAM, while AMD CPU could only work with DDR4 ram is a huge difference and why Intel had such close results to AMD. If testing, the testing should be done with as close of components as possible for each of the tested items. So if DDR4 was used for Ryzen, same DDR4 should have been used for Intel as well
Many tests have shown good DDR4 doing better than than DDR5 for gaming. So there's a chance the 12700k gets more fps if you swap in DDR4. Something to do with the latency of the RAM.
Massive speed difference in the memory I have a 5900X and before I sett the speed of my ram to 3600 it was running about half the speed and the performance difference was huge I don't have the results of the few tests did but I distinctly recall the blender 23 result was over 30% lower with the ram speed not optimized.
I would really like to see how these cpus compare with the ram speed set to the same.

Yea, I wondered about this too. 3600Mhz is the general sweet spot for Ryzen, so running tests with 3200Mhz memory doesn't seem like a fair comparison. Of course I get that Intel can run DDR5, and it's fine to use that in the test, but intentionally using slower memory for the AMD system, without any comment on it, is a bit odd.
People will upvote anything nowadays so long as it supports their own preconceived beliefs. No shit you're gonna get almost a 30% improvement by setting your ram speed to 3600 if it was previously running at almost half the speed. You had forgotten to enable xmp/docp fool. You're not gonna see nearly the same level of improvement of performance comparing 3200 to 3600

Im currently building my pc and after plenty research I chose to go with the 5900x due to the insane performance for its price right now. The cpu is gonna be 2 years old soon and the 12 gen needed the support of ddr5 to push ahead.
The 5900x overall would still cost cheaper if I went with a ddr4 build.. not to mention going ddr5 I would be spending much more.
Overall the 5900x is a great build to go with for 2022.
I don't think the choice is cut and dry for either platform. I was saying that AMD had answers for pretty much every alder lake cpu (except the 12600k,) if they did a price drop. Alder lake is a good cpu generation, but without the big punch of lower prices things come a lot more into parity.

So the Ryzen 9 5900X is better than i7-12700K in terms of 3d modelling and rendering, right? Please anyone help me build my first pc and idk what to do, at first I was going with i7-12700k with RTX 3060 but I asked some people on Instagram about it they said that ryzen processor is better for 3d modelling and rendering. Definitely worth it if u need it since u can't get a wifi card that good for 20 bucks. Performance wise. It will come down go the gpu. Running time spy my 5900x with a evga ftw3 3080 it beat my 12700k with an msi ventus x3 over all score. When I put a evga ftw3 on my 12700k it edged out my 5900x. With thay being said my 12700k is a pain to keep cool. Running a scythe fuma 2 and it will steady hit 80s drawing over 200 watts while my 5900x pulls about 140. It's really up to u and depends where u are at now. If u have am4 already just upgrade cpu if your starting over. U can buy a 12700k and motherboard for cost of a 5900x

I have to buy the whole PC for video editing. Some people recommend Intel because of the Quick Sync of the iGPU. Another option is the 12600, which probably will run a bit cooler.
@@user-ph1ob6nj7i yes the i5 will run cooler but the i7 is just a few bucks more usually less then 50. if still looking id go with the i7 definitely. higher resell value and u can always under volt or even under clock and still out perform the i5. hopefully beefier coolers will become readily available for these cpus and adaption brackets for older coolers will become easier to get as well. but either way pulling over 200 watts for a basic i7 is crazy when even the ryzen 9 5950x dont pull that much

@@Carkand Naw that's is the 5950x's job the 5900x costs like $70 more than a i7 12700KF so in the same ball park for price. I should know I was shopping for a new setup tonight and did prices for both Intel & AMD setups. Because I like to push the limits and have actual Over clocking features as well as a sweet feature set the z690 boards I felt would be what I needed were priced well beyond what I consider good pricing. I ended up picking up a 5900x and an ASUS ROG AM4 board with WIFI6 and 2.5GB and a VRM that should get the job done for half the price as the Intel version of the ASUS ROG board which allowed me to get 32GB DDR4 3600 16,18,18 memory instead of only 16GB ram it all arrives Monday according to my order status in my email.

What I would really like to see is a test that includes Resizable Bar/Smart Access Memory. Becuase if you have a Radeon 6000 series GPU and are looking to upgrade or change your Mobo & CPU, the performance gap would likely favor staying with an all AMD platform.
My biggest concern with the 12th gen is using it for work. The risk of it not running , or randomly crashing while using a particular software is a deal breaker.
Using that 3200mhz RAM made a difference also, as opposed to going with 3600 cl16 and higher

Total price isn't bad with DDR4. Only the motherboards are more expensive, but I'm using a $190 Asus Z690M (one of the very few microATX Z690 options...) with my 12700K and it works perfectly.
The big question is, what would the numbers look like if the 12700K was tested with DDR4 instead.

The Office Test is ridicolous, the typical office user is so slow that even an 8086 would outperform the user. If you have workload that would benefit in office of an cpu higher than the 80286, you should think of the tools you are using, and if there is a special software for that usecase (like Excel is not a database solution, even its used often like that), this special software on a 80836 would outperform an officebased solution on an 12900k overclocked.
Another claim: as long there is a penalty for ryzen on win 11 vs intel, all the test should be performed in win10 and win11 as long results in win 10 and win11 are inconsistent.

Regarding the 7-zip testing, I imagine this is using LZMA2 with Maximum compression level based on the dictionary size. This is best case for the 5900 due to cache sizes, both the dictionary 32MB and total memory used for decompression 34MB fit within the L3. Would be interesting to see normal (fits in both CPUs caches) and Ultra (fits in neither, though dictionary is close for 5900).

The issue with the 12700k (12gen) is that there are plenty of stuff that have issues with alderlake. For instance I forgot my steam password so I had to reset it and request the reset to my phone/mail but the steam recaptcha does not work on 12gen and I had to reset my password on my 11700k sys. And if you actually test the cpu in 3dmark both in timespy and the 3dmark cpu test the 11700k and 12700k perform pretty much neck to neck and only when the higher thread counts are tested does the 12700k outshine the 11700k. Basically very similar cpu cores but with more cache and additional efficiency cores for better multithread perf. And for gaming you should disable the e-cores but it seems my board does not let me do it with the first bios ver.
Still great for being a year old. Gotta wonder what's in store for the next chip

To summise, build a 5900x system of a generation at its peak, give 3-5 years for gen 12 to settle in, a great system and a huge financial saving in one...

Intel's cheapest mobo is more than $100+ more vs AMD cheapest mobo that can handle 5950x without throttling (top line amd ) . Also ddr5 is 3x the price. If you use Ddr4, then the gaming advantage for the 12700k at 1080p goes from to 2.2% to 0.4%

I would have used an X570 motherboard with the 5900x as they are a little more performance and feature orientated boards. But overall there is nothing in it. 12th gen have their issues which will get sorted and they are a bit more power hungry. However new cpu's from AMD are just around the corner which will no doubt leapfrog Intel 12th gen.
Nothing in it comparing i7 to R9. That means intel is effectively a whole tier ahead. No doubt vcache will be even more expensive.
And the DISGRACE of AMD will support ONLY DDR5 , they have made a deal with ram manufacturers to get a back hander. Naturally the CRAZED AMD cult member s will overpay as always

If you want to build an AMD System with the AMD Ecosystem, I'd suggest waiting until they begin to release DDR5/DDR4 backwards compatible motherboards, or just buy a high end X570 board and get higher speed memory. Honestly thats fair but if you always wait them youd get trapped in an endless loop of waiting for the next thing. Raptor Lake is coming at the end quarter of 2022, should we wait for that too? My guess is youd say no. Point is i feel like you should just get what you need now and if you dont need anything just wait then. Especially now that miners are starting to use CPUs to mine, keep in mind that theres already a chip shortage thats effecting TSMC and Samsung at a disproportionate rate compared to Intel who make their own fabs. And its ver cache reliant which is why Ryzen is the go to for CPU mining

You should benchmark games on low settings to lessen the effect of a GPU bottleneck.
To me, Rainbow Six Siege performance always seems strange as it has always been an outlier with the other games.
I'd say it's probably "optimized" by AMD so that Intel always run slower despite they've got such an outstanding lightly threaded performance.
Nope. 10900k was the fastest cpu in Rainbow six for a very long time. Zen 3 probably has better latency than 12th gen intel. Ryzen wins in csgo as well in win 10.
@@superneenjaa718 That makes sense because I know Ryzen do have a larger L3 cache. Hence, reduced fetching latency can translate to better frame time and thus better frame rate.

I have a pretty good AMD system 5800x and 6900xt but a friend of mine has been wanting to build a new PC to replace his aging 4 core Intel/ 2080ti system. He was Planning to go Ryzen but I told him about the new Intel...I don't know now though...I guess if you want what is technically the fastest available now , even if not by much then go with intel.. If my friend chooses to hold out a while longer a system based on next gen Ryzen might be better choice

He should wait for Zen3D thats coming in January. Im trying to hold out on for that but I have a i7 7700k with a RTX 3080 and im noticing issues with frames so im more and more open to just buy a 5900x especially its on sale right now.
@@sack8439 I side grades from a 3900x to a 5800x and was sad then went to a 5900x and I'm happy again. I use a lot of core I can get up to 60-70% usage so going back to 8 cores sucked for me. The 5900x is a beast!
