I often play games and use Photoshop occasionally but almost never work on videos, so I wouldn't be averse to getting the KF variant to save some money. I'd pick a Z690-based motherboard; even the lower-end ones aren't much different from the mid- and top-tier mobos performance-wise. A H670-based mobo would work too but note that it doesn't support CPU overclocking, so don't pick a H670 mobo if you plan to OC. Unless the H670 board is priced significantly cheaper than the Z690 board I'd still go for the latter, even if you don't plan to overclock now since you can actually OC in the future so you can squeeze a little more performance and delay the next CPU upgrade. Also, you'll be faced with the dilemma of investing in DDR5 RAM which is still expensive OR using the older but cheaper DDR4 RAM (especially if you're upgrading as opposed to building an all-new system). At present, DDR5 shows little performance benefit compared to DDR4 for most workloads so if cost is a major factor then DDR4 is definitely more attractive.

Then I compare these specs side-by-side and look for the best features for the price and/or which features are important for me. The specs should be mostly similar across Z690 boards of the same price bracket but might differ in things like power phases for the VRM or total current supported (e.g. 70 amps), for both of which more is better. It might also differ in less technical specs like number and kind of USB ports, number of SATA ports, number of M.2 slots, etc.

I use either my DVDFAB converter/ripper, or my Aiseesoft converters. I mostly convert H.264/H.265 mkv files to lower bit rate smaller files, or rip my DVD/Blurays to MKV smaller files. Can you give me a most -to -least list of the features I need to consider in making the greatest improvement? ((( I now have an Nvidia GTX 660TI with 1334 cuda cores, and 2 gig memory...............my Cpu is Intel I7, 4790........I use Windows 64 32 gigs ddr3 ram))) I am really confused about the importance of CUDA cores vs. CPU graphics power. As well as it responds extremely well once overclocked offering upto 60% more performance. So upgrading to a k variant 12700k (depending on what resolution you play) is well worth the upgrade. Tired of seeing clowns telling people to get the iGPU, you can literally buy an older gpu like the GTX 680 for almost the same price, which will completely destroy the shitty iGPU, also I'd highly doubt anyone would notice the extra 10%-20% performance from using Quick Sync in Video Rendering, F series processors offer the best value for money, this is the first and last video I'll watch from you, stop spreading misinformation!

If you have a graphics card (which most content creators have), then save some money and go with the "F" version. There is no performance difference between the 2, the only difference is the "F" version does not have a GPU built in. Why would you use encoders on the CPU if you have a dedicated graphics card?? Lol thats pointless, just taking more resources from the CPU.

My friend, you are misinformed. The igpu can work together with your dGPU. The UHD770 has better encoders than on the rtx 3090. And the difference is HUGE! For example NVENC does not currently offer support for h.265 10 bit 4.2.2, yet UHD770 does. ;)

For gamers that like to overclock the F variants are attractive because they deliver slightly better results. We are speaking about 2 or 3%. While I personally really love the fall back option of an onboard graphics card, I can understand, why some folks want the F version. If you are really after those overclocking records, then go for it. In that case 2% can be huge. But if you only want get some extra percent performance out of your gaming rig, stay away from those F version as they have the plague. That IGPU is worth it's weight in gold when overclocking your graphic card.

"F" chips exist for one simple reason: they occur during the fab process by accident and OEM/system integrators are willing to buy them at a slight discount because a few bucks times thousands of sales equals lots of extra profit. No hobby builder should buy them unless they are at a substantial discount to the non-F variant, IMHO.

The 12900 and the 12700 do include the iGPU but have a much lower TDP.
Does the (considerably) lower TDP also guarantee a considerably lower temperature of operation when on full load?
In theory, one could chose the 12700 over the 12600K or chose the 12900 over the 12700K.
