    Handmade Nano and Micro Wobbler Crankbaits from Bosnia by "Mikrolino" (non-affiliate link) were gifted to me by Nikola Ivankovic at: / mikrolino_wobblers
    These tiny crank bait lures from Nikola inspired this challenge to fish for trout with a baitcaster and are also the reason for the video having a "paid promotion" label (since I didn't pay for the mikrolino wobblers).
    As well as trout - the lures and fishing tactics in this video can be great options for a range of predatory fish including panfish (including crappie and bluegills) as well as bass, perch, pickerel and more.
    Of course this style of fishing and lures would be possible using an UL spinning reel outfit as well. The challenge, here, was to find out whether a totally "stock" or factory specification Bait Finesse System reel could handle the range of lure weights.
    I hope you enjoyed this experiment and can maybe add something to your own fishing adventures as a result.
    Paul

    Amazin channel, amazing videos, amasing sense of humour. Missed that into BFS channels. A new suscriber from Bogota, Colombia who misses Blighty a lot. Lived in London and did my masters on Fly Fishinf, recruited a lot of people for the sport for around 20 years but...sometimes you want to learn something new. Rockfishing and BFS are my choice now. Cheers.

    Maybe I'm wrong but this is what i think of when hearing the term BFS . Not just light weight lures but a technique in areas most wouldn't think of using a baitcaster in .
    I use a Bearking Zeus attached to a Magic L light rod for casting anything from micro crankbaits to a 1/2oz whopper plopper with differing style and weight jigs .

      That’s an interesting take and one that could be pretty useful for manufacturers going forward Mark. I know there are a lot of labels flying around these days for people wanting to make clear what kind of tactics and set ups they’re using (e.g the idea of power bfs for things in the range of your whopper plopper fishing). I like the idea of bfs being a “baitcaster surprise” category 😀

      I've ended up really impressed with it. The colour scheme is always going to polarise people... but I hear rumours of alternative colours in future.

      @@FishingDiscoveries Color scheme did not bother me, but o know it can for some people. It would have been cool if they made a rod that could match the specs of the reel. If there was a matching rod then it would be less of a deal, but couldn’t hurt for just a plain black reel. I have been trying to decide between this reel and the bfs ark gravity. Luckily those reels and floating around the online community.

      There’s a decent amount of content out on the ff01 but oddly not a lot of interest in it it seems. Not quite sure why as the build quality and build materials rival the jdm brands and performance is spot on. I know multispeciesangler and Paul both have good content on this reel. Admittedly, I could have more content out on the reel as well but my time is starting to get limited… Just an fyi new stuff from QingYu is on the horizon 😉. Cheers noob!

      @@BFSFISHINGCHANNEL Good to hear it. Yeah I have been keeping up with the vids of various anglers reviewing the Feather. I was trying to decide between the feather and Ark BFS. Judging by the materials used to the build the reels the feather seems higher quality at the same price point as the Ark, so I might get the feather as a mid budget for me. I already got the Elf and Zephyr for my low budget reels.

      @@noobpyrotech9991 between the arise air and the ff01 there’s something like a $50-60 price differential. With the ff01 you get better build materials and ultimately a lighter reel and simpler brake design. I can’t quite say which casts ultralight, sub 1g, lures better but I’d gather they are quite close. If you are wanting a drag clicker you might want to hold off on the ff01. Alternatively, the arise air is a solid reel as well but I think the braking system is a bit more… “specialized” as you potentially have to adjust the inductor cup when changing lure weights. There are some other minor gripes I have but if you’re looking at casting performance it is a solid performer. Cheers noob!

      Yeah, I definitely felt a general increase in "intent" from the fish grabbing the neon greenback FD bait....Though that first fish I lost on the naturalistic "Trout Parr" version certainly engulfed it full-force!

    Funny vid)) I think bad realization is cause of the small size hooks not soft rod.

    • @FishingDiscoveries
      @FishingDiscoveries  10 месяцев назад +1

      It's interesting, since the exact same size 8 single hooks on the exact same jerk baits on other rod/line combos generally have a way higher hook up ratio. The tiny Mikrolino baits are usually supplied with very small treble hooks - but I find those are a really bad mix with catch and release fishing for wild trout. However, I do still think there is a better hook solution for those really tiny baits... Probably experimenting with an "assist" hook flexible attachment method and also trying out some variations of very, very sharp, specialist hooks from other branches of fishing may be needed. I have a few models of hook in mind to try over the coming seasons... Many thanks for your comment and I'm glad it made you smile! Paul.

    Did you have to make any reel adjustments when you switched baits?

    • @FishingDiscoveries
      @FishingDiscoveries  10 месяцев назад

      Hi Stephen - no, since I switched from the super-ultralight bait to the heavier bait (and the light bait creates a greater difficulty in controlling the spool start-up because you're throwing much harder). With that said, I probably could have used lighter brake settings on the 4-g minnow; but it was actually dialled in nicely an I was landing the minnow right up against the wall or dropping it exactly where I wanted it with great consistency (so I didn't feel the need to tweak it). If I'd started out with the heavier bait and dialled in some settings for that - I might have needed to turn up the brakes a bit if I'd then switched to the super-ultralight wobbler. However, that's all on the basis of my casting style - and I know other folks (like the multispecies angler commenting on here!) who fish with lighter brakes and a more laid-back casting stroke... Either way, only the most minimal tweaks to the brake dial should be necessary and (with the stock bearings) I found you don't need to mess with the spool tension beyond simply setting it for minimal side-to-side play of the spool - and not getting into any "lure drop" testing shenanigans. Paul.
