  • Hey everyone, in today's video, I'm diving deep into the world of bait finesse fishing gear to bring you an honest first impression of the NEW Flight Feather Kingfisher BFS reel. You've probably heard the buzz about this reel being the lightest BFS (Bait Finesse System) reel on the market, and I'm here to put it to the test and share my thoughts!
    Don't forget: My NEW Kistler HUNT Series BFS Rods are shipping in the next few days! kistlerrods.com/products/hunt...
    Join me as I unbox the FF01, the very first reel from Flight Feather. Just a quick heads-up, this video isn't sponsored, but Nako did send me this reel for free to try out and share my unbiased opinions.
    Get the Flight Feather Reel from Nako here: nakoshop.com/products/flight-...
    We'll take a close look at the reel's design, featuring some unique feather details that certainly make it stand out. From the distinctive ring around the shaft to the button adorned with feather patterns, Flight Feather has clearly aimed for attention-grabbing aesthetics.
    But design isn't the only factor. We'll get technical, discussing the impressive 8.2:1 gear ratio, the removable magnetic brakes that offer precise control, the titanium shaft contributing to its lightweight, and the magnesium frame that adds strength without sacrificing weight.
    I'll share my thoughts on the feel of the reel, the smoothness of the drag adjustment, and even examine the spool, which is touted as the lightest production spool available. We'll compare it to similar models in the market, and I'll walk you through the key features that make the Flight Feather Kingfisher unique.
    Of course, we won't just talk specs; I'll take this beauty out on the water and put it through its paces. We'll see how it performs with various lures, including a cool floating dragonfly lure, and test its casting distance and accuracy.
    In the end, I'll provide my honest first impressions and let you know if this reel lives up to the hype. So, whether you're a seasoned angler or just getting started, join me on this journey of exploration as we uncover whether the Flight Feather Kingfisher truly earns its title as the lightest BFS reel on the planet.
    If you're as excited as I am about testing out cutting-edge fishing gear, don't forget to hit that like button, subscribe for more unbiased gear reviews, and ring that notification bell so you don't miss any of my upcoming fishing adventures!

    The new version (Cormorant) has the drag clicker and upgraded main gear. They increast the price substantially tho.

    • @AaronHuntFishing
      @AaronHuntFishing  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yep - they are marketing them as different reels for sure. Just other options I'd pick first at that higher price point. This one has been a good reel though.

      @@AaronHuntFishing I agree with you on that. Your fondness of the Daiwa Mountain Stream, Silver Creek AIR TW, Stream Custom, 8.5L has me intrigued. It fits the profile of the type of fishing I will be doing this year here in Japan. Trout in super small streams with very dense overgrowth. The ironic thing is that the reel is like half the price if I ordered it in the states. Bloody Amazon US will not ship it to FPO AP however.

    • @AaronHuntFishing
      @AaronHuntFishing  5 месяцев назад +1

      @@justinkayce9811 I was surprised at how good the prices have been on Amazon US lately! I'll probably take that combo out tomorrow scouting for some wild suburban trout. I'm expecting a very low probability of success. :) But hopefully I catch a few chubs or something while I'm searching. February fishing is rough here in PA.

  • @yep.fishing
    @yep.fishing 11 месяцев назад +2

    I totally agree that they got rid of the drag clicker and perhaps the clicking spool tensioner to save weight. Not sure how many g they would save...maybe 3? So they did that just to be the loghtest and have that as their selling point.

    • @AaronHuntFishing
      @AaronHuntFishing  11 месяцев назад +3

      Yeah - i think there was probably a few grams there, a couple on the spool, and maybe even a few from that cut-out by the drive gear. The performance is pretty good so far though, so it's not just a gimmick to be light. They seem to have done it right.

    • @yep.fishing
      @yep.fishing 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@AaronHuntFishing I personally would never buy a reel without a drag clicker...does the clicking noise add that much to my fishing experience? Probably not but it's more of a thing that would just bug me not having.

    Lightest baitcasting reel in the world is from Histar. Aurora.. 115g. Just bought it

    • @AaronHuntFishing
      @AaronHuntFishing  7 месяцев назад

      I'd need a link - every Hi-star Aurora I'm familiar with is 172g plus. Seems odd to name a new reel the same as an existing reel ... but some companies are strange. Plus, HiStar puleld some shady bait and switch tricks during the 11.11 sale - so not really a company I'm going to highlight even if they do have a 115g reel. Purelure did release a new reel that 119 grams - and it's on it's way.

    • @AaronHuntFishing
      @AaronHuntFishing  7 месяцев назад +1

      Virtually ALL BFS reels have shallow spools. It's to permit casting of very light lures - it reduces the initial force needed to make the spool spin. That's why they do it. Probably safe to say you'd never buy ANY BFS reel. Appreciate the irony of your comment.
