    First heard this in middle school at 11 years old when my music teacher played this for the class. I was instantly touched and knew I was listening to something truly remarkable. 32 years later and this piece can still bring me to tears. I wish I was able to thank Johann for his contributions to society and advancements in music. This was well played by the organist. All too often it is played up tempo and you don't get the transitions from one manual to the next.

    Very nice, just wish someone could come play this at my Episcopal Church hybred Reuter/Allen. Its a nice organ but hard to find someone that really knows how to play it.
    I actually liked it better when it was just a smaller Reuter Organ

    • @Offshoreorganbuilder
      @Offshoreorganbuilder 8 лет назад

      Why do you prefer it, without the additions?

    • @califdad4
      @califdad4 8 лет назад +1

      the Reuter sounded really good, was very bright sounding, but one organist toned it down, then we built a bigger building and the new people didn't think it was big enough, and wanted to expand it, and this was the most cost effective way to expand it. it still sounds very good, just I have been attending there for years and know how good the small Reuter sounded ( it could blast you out if someone played it hard, which was why the last organist toned it down, he didn't really understand pipe organs)

    • @Offshoreorganbuilder
      @Offshoreorganbuilder 8 лет назад +2

      califdad4 Thanks for the explanation.
      It sounds to me that 'they' fell for the usual bait of more stop-controls for a cheaper price, failing, utterly, to realise that they were not comparing like with like.
      Sad, but almost inevitable.

    • @califdad4
      @califdad4 8 лет назад +2

      Well it was a build up of the smaller 9 rank Organ that cost about 50K and doing it with pipes would have been over 100K
      Our Rector in the days of getting the Reuter, really picked out this organ well, and would have done the larger building fine, but we had someone pushing to get rid of it ( his friend sold some stupid Italian Galanti Electronic organ ) so this fix was what we had to do to end that guys dream of sticking us with a dumb Galanti, The Galanti salesman even had a expert come out to tell us our 34 year old Reuter was awful and needed to be replaced and instead he told them that it was a lovely organ and would be a shame to get rid of it! Kind of burst the Salesmans bubble
      LOL

    • @Offshoreorganbuilder
      @Offshoreorganbuilder 8 лет назад +4

      califdad4 Yes, I can imagine! I had a similar experience, when a church agreed to the demonstration of an electronic, compared with their 100-year-old pipe organ. The salesman demonstrated the electronic to a respectful silence. He then played the same piece on the pipe-organ and everyone burst into applause. He lost the job, of course, and they spent the money, with me, in restoring the pipe-organ. That must have been, maybe 20 years ago. The pipe-organ is still there and gives no trouble, of course.
      What I find it impossible to get across to the 'bone-heads' who ultimately choose the electronic is this: You are NOT choosing between an organ with so many stops and gadgets and another, bigger and cheaper organ with more stops and gadgets. You are choosing between an organ and something else which is an organ SUBSTITUTE. i.e. "Do we want an organ for our church, or another, quite different, instrument, which is trying to sound like an organ and which is cheaper. It's exactly the same choice as between a meal at a good restaurant, with real food, and a McDonald's takeaway, which is so much cheaper and fills you up just the same.
      It has to faced. There are many fools out there. They see a thing which looks just like an organ console, they see all those stops and buttons and shiny wood (or fake wood) and they are impressed. Add to this the organist who wants a cathedral organ in his church (whether it's needed, or not) and that's what keeps the electronic organs selling. We are back to the old "Our food ain't good, but it's cheap and there's plenty of it."
      I have recently noticed one seller of electronics, fielding a 4-manual console with all the trimmings, above which there is a pathetic shelf on brackets holding the kind of dummy pipe display which many an amateur would have in their bedroom. This is supposed to impress the client - and I suppose it must do, in some cases! There's one fool born every minute, and I have long ago lost patience with them.
