- This would probably have been remembered as the greatest game in Big Red history if they had won. The Cards stormed back from a 23-7 halftime deficit to take a 27-26 lead, but Mark Moseley kicked the game winning FG and Neil O'Donoghue missed the potential game winner at the gun as the Redskins won 29-27. Neil Lomax threw for 468 yards and Roy Green had 196 yards and scored 2 TDs in the loss.

I'm still pissed at Neil O'Donoghue
he was really one of, if not the worst kicker in the NFL who was able to keep his job for so long. You never want a game to rest on his shoulders.
Excellent game at the end of the season,it was the main game on Channel 4 in the UK when I was first getting hooked on the sport.
8os (and early 90s) NFC East was brutal.
Think this was, the beginning of the end of the Football Cardinals in St Louis
Why?
For my money, in 1982, 1983, and 1984, there was no better WR in the NFL than Roy Green.
What a great great game. The roaring crowd at RFK, back and forth action and entertainment. Sadly this was really the last gasp of anything resembling relevancy for the St. Louis franchise. They hung tough.
I was a 13 year old Giants fan, watching this game at the time. The Giants needed the Cardinals to lose, because the Giants had inexcusably lost a home game against the awful Saints the day before this game. I remembered Neil O'Donoghue from the Monday night game the year before; when he missed three FGs in overtime against the Giants. Neil came through for us again by missing the 50 yarder at the gun.
How come Roy Green is not in the HOF? That was a bad dude.
He has significantly better stats than recently inducted Drew Pearson.
@@smg1665 Yup.. And Green played defense (first) and offense..
In Madden i relocate the Cardinals to st.louis
It's astonishing how bad O'Donaghue was. And somehow still had a job.
Man I wish QBs would have just spiked the ball straight down back in the day. Was that move considered grounding back then, or the coaches just hadn’t thought of that yet. Remember catching the end of this game as a kid in NJ, CBS cut in for the last drive. Soul crushing as a Cards fan.
“It may look like he is exercising, but I think he is praying” - great foreshadowing by Pat Summerall.
Good game
I presume this was a very rare Cardinals game that Madden and Summerall worked?
Love Kerry, but why is he waving his arms before the play is over?
I miss this era so much. Now everything is rules heavy polished corporate billionaire ball with wokeness culture ruining everything else.
Redskins grabbed early lead and cardinals early turnovers and big Redskins plays and cardinals missed field goals 29-27 victory end of season made playoffs would lose at home Chicago Bears 23-19 walter Payton td pass in the game.
