"Brought to you by Marlboro" LOL And 1970 was a typical Cardinal season. Rolling along at 8-2-1 and in the playoff hunt only to drop their last 3 games to finish in 3rd at 8-5-1. They've always been fond of late season collapses.
Watching this, it is just astounding that two months later, Dallas was in the Super Bowl - and St. Louis didn’t even make the playoffs. (1970 was the 22nd straight season the Cardinals missed the playoffs; they had last made them in 1948, as the Chicago Cardinals, and they would not reach them again till 1974. (They participated in the “Playoff Bowl” for the 1964 season, but the NFL now officially considers that a postseason exhibition game, not a playoff game.))
I don't know how u guys "watched the game" since it was blacked out in the Dallas/FW area .... Back then it had 2 be sold out 2 be shown locally. I was in the 8 grade then, and remember hearing it on a small transistor radio. My how times have changed!!!😮 GO COWBOYS !!!!!!!
This was the 1st MNF game for the Cowboys versus Cards, but not the first Monday game for Dallas and St. Louis as the Cards beat the Cowboys 20-13 in a 1965 Monday afternoon game.
they swept the cowboys that year. remember that big fight at midfield when the game ended in st louis, the cards kept dallas to 7 points in 8 qtrs in 1970. total combined points (58-7) it was their season to be taken.
An upset? If one was looking back after the end of the season, perhaps. But before week 9, St. Louis was 6-2, and in first place in the NFC East; Dallas was 5-3, and tied for second with the Giants. They’d already lost to St. Louis, in the third week of the season. An observer probably would not have expected St. Louis to shred Dallas to the tune of a 38-point shutout, but the Cardinals likely would have been at least slightly favored.
my first Cowboy game I ever watched....Elizabeth, New Jersey. 6 years old. Even though we lost, I loved this team my whole life...wth happened to them?
These types of uploads mean so much because NFL Films stuff isn't the same. Video is so much better..Bless You..

First time in Cowboys history they were shut out. It would be 15 years before they were shut out again.
1985 vs Bears 44-0

They used to actually do play by play, rather than just chit chatting with the game on in the background.
roy shivers don't remember him.... but god bless him and his family
That photo of Bob Lilly looked more like James Hampton.
I play golf with John gilliam sometime
I haven't seen a Dallas team look that bad especially at home I think ever
Not until playing the '85 Bears.
or the loss to a j.v. Green Bay Packer team in wild card playoffs round at home
Don Meredith’s comments throughout this broadcast are quite humorous. He does apologize on air for being such a homer near the end.
The Cardinals did have a way to upset any opponent in that day. Just not enough to win the NFC title.

Dallas at its worst.
