2 days later in collegiate gridiron 🏈 action visiting Penn State came back from 14-0 lst Quarter deficit to trounce host W.V.U., 49-21 in last game bet. 2 schools in W.V.U.'s former mid-1920s f'tbll st'dm 🏟, Morgantown, West Va.
As I recall watching this game when I was in grade school, this was the first ever Thursday Night Football game outside of the Thanksgiving day afternoon ones.
This was a great rivalry. In the Super Bowl era, the winningest teams are Dallas, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, all of which clashed in some fantastic post-season games. The Vikes were superb against quality teams during the season; post-season was a different story. Although this wasn't a Monday Night game, I recall it was just a few years later when Dorsett ran for a record 99 yard TD run but the Vikes again beat the Cowboys. Two exemplary coaches on the sidelines who had classy teams. I'm a Steelers fan but will give credit where it's due. Watching the Vikes-Cowboys back then was a huge deal: between them, in a 10-year span, they accounted for 9 Super Bowl appearances between them (1969-1979).
So many great personalities with the broadcast both to both coached Bud Grant and Tom Landry. Then the great backs in Dorset and Foreman and Staubach and Tarkenton. I was 11 years old then and Staubach was my hero Eventhough I lived in Wisconsin but my Packers were not very good back then.
Well, in 4, previous 7 seasons C'wbys had d'ftd V'kngs in pl'yffs winning 1977-1978 season's N.F.C. Championship Game at home, 23-6 to earn berth in Super Bowl, XII, where they'd go on to defeat Broncos, 27-10
At home and Texas Stadium are actually not redundant. The Cowboys did well at home against MN in the 1960's. Texas Stadium opened in 1971, and MN won regular season games there in 1974, 1978, 1987, and 1988 against Landry. Dallas had similar succes at MN from 1971 on, except 1982.
1978 was a great year for me. I celebrated our 2nd Superbowl Championship as a Cowboys fan. I also graduated from Junior High School in the Bronx NY that year.
I was a Dallas fan and in elementary school…..didn’t realize Dallas had played on Thursday. Found out a few days later and was also disappointed about the loss
Minnesota thoroughly dominated in this game. Their defense stifled the Dallas offense and Staubach was off on many passes. One of his worst games ever.
if these 2 teams played 10 times, dallas woulda won 8.....(at least) this wasa fluke.the minny's got SMEARED in the playoffs by the whams.....(of course t he whams were humiliated by phallas 28-0)
Sr. Univ., Pgh. RB Tony D'rstt was 1976 College F'tbll season's H'smn Trophy w'nnr as he helped lead G'ldn P'nthrs to p'rfct 11-0-0 record in reg. season play/wire-to-wire 27-3 tr'mph over Univ., Ga. in XLIIIrd Sugar Bowl classic on New Yr.'s Day, 1977 (January 1, 1977-Sat.) for Univ., Pgh.'s lst National Championship in close to 4 decades. And sp'kng, 1976 College F'tbll season, I.Y.O., why do you think that ABC-TV N'twrk on Dec. 31, 1976 (Fri.-New Yr.'s Eve) d'clnd to air that season's XVIIIth Astro-Bl'bnnt Bowl cl'ssc bet. Univs., Neb./Tex. Tech as syndicated TVS n'twrk aired that game instead?
I imagine that ABC-TV Network passed up airing 1976 College F'tbll season's XVIIIth Astro-Bl'bnnt Bowl cl'ssc bet. Univ., Neb./Tex. Tech on New Yr.'s Eve night 🌙, 1976 (December 31, 1976-Fri.) fearing that its affiliates in Eastern time zone were concerned that w/live sporting event such as XVIIIth Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl College Football classic bet., Univ., Neb./Tex. Tech starting at 8:00 PM (E.T.) would have impact on stations' local news coverage, New Yr.'s Eve activities/in worst possible case, stretch into annual "New Yr.'s Rockin' Eve" musical 🎼 special. Now as l've mentioned before that XVIIIth Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl College Football classic on last day, historic Bi-Centennial yr., 1976 (December 31, 1976-Fri., New Yr.'s Eve) could moved ahead earlier in day from 8:00 PM (E.T.) to 3:15 PM (E.T.) w/ABC-TV Network starting coverage, game at 3:15 PM (E.T.)
Roger Staubach has a net worth of over $650 million dollars due to various businesses he owns and Fran Tarkenton has a net worth of about $300 million due to computers.
I love the commercials. It completes the Time Machine experience
I've never seen this game posted before!! Great find!!
The first ever Thursday Night Football game

B.T.W., Morgantown, West Va.'s located only about 5 mi. from Penna./West Va. state boundary line
@@ChristopherHagee penn state...umm, ok....home of rapist/abusers like sandusky-of course mr.sunglasses 'knows nooooothhhinnng'
Penn State leads all-time football 🏈 series w/W.V.U., 49-9-2
Penn State also leads all-time football 🏈 series w/Univ., Md., 43-3-1

Beautiful Vikings uniforms ❤️
I could listen to Howard Cosell all day
Loved this -- remembered watching the NFL in '78 but forgot who won this game. It was great reliving old memories!
Absolutely ❤️ I’m now 61 and these were my Vikes 🏈🌟
And 8 superbowls.
Foreman was a great all around back, but had many injuries over the years and perhaps was overused.
For whatever reason, the Cowboys had trouble beating the Vikings at home during the regular season when they played at Texas Stadium.
Isn't at home and at Texas Stadium redundant?
Cowboys/Vikings are even in all-time post-season series with both teams each recording 3 victories in llnd season
Cowboys lead Vikings, 15-12 in all-time reg. season series bet. those 2 teams
Wow thanks J.J

😊 Commericials. Were great better than. Today
Thank you sir!
VIKINGS!!
May the Vikes finally win the Big One someday!
Chuck Foreman's last 100 yard rushing game...
He looked like he was running on fumes.
I was a Dallas fan and in elementary school…..didn’t realize Dallas had played on Thursday. Found out a few days later and was also disappointed about the loss
Love those Lite Beer from Miller commercials.
That’s the legendary Danny Aiello in the Lowenbrau commercial! 🇮🇹🇺🇸🙏
Fran called it!
Amazing to me that Randy White was on the S/T group in addition to D-line.
2:45:52….good shot of Ditka
Datsun was getting serious airtime that night lol
Staubach and. Tarkenton both had. Fantastic. Mobility for both being over 36
Bello il primo pallone ..chi è il ricevitore del primo calcio?
"Sorry we are experiencing technical difficulties" lol
I remember it well. This is the last time Staubach and Tarkenton played each other, and Tark did well!
Notice the Vikings came out in a three RB set to start just to stress out Landry!
i liked it when the Cowboys went to Metropolitan Stadium in Minnesota -20 degrees
Never happened
The Cowboys played at Metropolitan Stadium in 1961 1968 1971( playoffs) 1975( playoffs) 1977 and 1979 none of those games were -20 degrees
2:01 Dorsett was a real pro about this kerfuffle.
Thanksgiving the Cowboys and Vikes used to play ....
Wow Staubach vs Tarkington
Tarkenton 😉
The Cowboys stunk the place up that day.
Minnesota thoroughly dominated in this game. Their defense stifled the Dallas offense and Staubach was off on many passes. One of his worst games ever.
Smelling salts were the concussion protocol.
Dallas blew this game.
21-10 home defeat for host Cowboys against visiting Vikings
Minnesota shouldve kept Allen. Page My. Packers were. Dumb not.to.aquire Allen smart player still talented at 34
Datson(Nissan) commercials.
Roger wasn't sharp on this night (to say the least) but I would still like him to run for POTUS in 2024 if Trump can't make the ticket.
if these 2 teams played 10 times, dallas woulda won 8.....(at least) this wasa fluke.the minny's got SMEARED in the playoffs by the whams.....(of course t he whams were humiliated by phallas 28-0)
Boo (censored) hoo!
Don't put Trump and Staubach in the same sentence. That's like comparing Fine Champagne to Toilet Water!
They are both fine champagne
Trump 🎉🎉🎉won
The Cowboys played like crap…. I think they lost their next game but then went on to win their final 6….
And then the Stillers (censored) slapped them once again!
@@christopherstephans3383 Just as it was case 3 seasons prior (1975-1976) in Super Bowl, X
That was to Miami after a mini bye 23-16
Yes to the Dolphins in Miami
This game was a big let down and bummer!
Tony Dorsett has got to hold the all time record for fumbles, crap.
That's committed fumbles
He did often early in his career but got better.
