Strangley enough-both teams would host wild card games the next season albeit on different days. The Jets were upset by the Patriots to start wild card weekend and the Giants eliminated the defending champions 49ers the next afternoon.
This was the only season the Jets wore these era (1984-89) green jerseys at home. LOVE THIS SHADE OF GREEN WITH THAT LOGO. In 85 they switched to wearing white at home.
This was also a time when CBS was doing NFC games n NBC was doing AFC games. The Giants which was in the NFC was the "road" team against the Jets on CBS. The Jets logo is in the end zone
Yes but not these particular jerseys, in 90 they changed the uni's slightly. The green was a shade darker and also they incorporated some black into the color scheme. Also the JETS swoosh was altered. These jerseys and logo were worn from 1978-89
So fun to watch. How late hits were not even questioned, PI, incompletions called catches never questioned. How fast I had to get rid of the ball because u knew u we’re getting hit on every play !!
@@MrAschiff It's only right that the Giants and Jets have their own end zone designs. The Giants and Jets play their home games in the same stadium. Anytime the Giants and Jets play, one team the home team, and the other is the visiting team.
I remember that ridiculous unsportsman like "trying to block a field goal while not lined up on line of scrimmage" call. Stupidest call ever, never seen it called before or since.
New york city who owned Shea stadium treated the Jets like shit. The city favored the Mets over the Jets. In fact the Jets were forced to split the parking and concessions revenue with the Mets and the Mets didn't share with the Jets. The Jets were forced to play the first few games in the beginning of each year on the road to better accommodate the Mets. All of this to favor the Mets and the the Mets didn't sublease the stadium to the Jets. Shea stadium was a multi purpose stadium that was falling apart. Giants Stadium was a newer cleaner football only stadium with better wind conditions. Giants Stadium also had more seats and more luxury boxes than did Shea. The Jets made alot more money playing in Giants Stadium. That's why they left Shea.
But the Giants owned the stadium, they leased it to the Jets for 8 games a year, so the Jets were technically tenants where the Giants were owners. I wish they did but logistically it didn't work. That's why most times when the Jets were home they would refer to the building as "The Meadowlands" which actually was the name of the entire complex of buildings.

@@thomasn3882 I think both the stadiums suck. The Jets at least own half of Metlife whereas Giants Stadium, they played there on a lease, pathetic that an NFL team would lease a stadium over building their own. Considering the Jets and Giants both paid for Metlife Stadium, you'd think that it would have been a lot nicer. Every other team outside of the LA Chargers built their own stadium, Jets and Giants team up and come up with another big bowl design?
