I’ve been testing out the single lens Motion Eye Camera set up on the Sony XZ3. Sony have stuck with the single 19MP camera as before. No change to the hardware. Just software changes. Which on the face of it sounds a bit underwhelming.
But thinking about it, that was the one problem with the things that let the XZ2 down a bit. That and the lack of stabilisation.

Another brilliant review from this guy! I was watching this on my XZ Premium and its so hard to find a reviewer that is not automatically biased against Sony-these days. I am going to upgrade my contract to this- but the Bordeaux red version. Keep on reviewing fella, you are doing a fantastic job. On another note. I think Sony should forget about the vibration rubbish and the money saved -put OIS in there instead.

just upgraded my phone';s sound quality even further. Have you heard of the Audioquest Dragonfly 'black' external DAC/Headphone amplifier? No matter what phone you get-nothing is as good as an external dac/headphone amp. I thought the sound quality from my sony phone was amazing-but it is nothing compared to this. I play 24bit-depth FLAC files and as such i insist on the best. So mate those moaning about having no headphone jack need not worry, purchase the Audioquest Dragonfly Black-together with an OTG cable, then connect that in turn to the USB port on the phone and then your headphone jack is on the other side of that. So you get the jack back plus a BRILLIANT sound upgrade too. Could be worth doing a review on this-considering people complaining about having no headphone jack on the latest sony
? OH AND the beauty part of it is-this brilliant headphone dac/amplifier is the size of a usb pen:D

Yes...yes, and yes a single lens is good enough....especially for the average person who seems to mostly take pics of themselves and food. What exactly does a dual or triple lens do that is so Earth shattering exactly? Can any of them match an actual Camera? At the end of the day if you want the best possible quality pictures, and the most accurate and natural pictures than you can get with great zoom ability for taking pics from a distance and retaining picture quality, and zooming in on very small things as well as 4K HD video filming etc.....you need a proper damn camera. And there are a lot of great compact cameras on the market these days with touch screens, and blu tooth that enables you send all pics to your phone and are small and lightweight.
Why people want blurred photos at night? I dont get it.
Only 800 for the ISO on the S9?
Sony phones have been reaching 12800 for years (since the Z3 I believe).
And one thing I've seen recently is that Sony phones can manage ISO better than the others.
And Sony is not allowing OIS on its rear cameras soon, the XZ2 Premium is the perfect example of that, reaching high ISO at the same time for pictures and videos, and in my opinion, this is a more clever way than OIS.
Sony also uses something called gyro assisted Image Stabilisation which in my opinion works well. Dunno why reviewers have a hard on for ois when it is janky for video.
It's all Sony marketing hype. The Galaxy S9 has better low light performance than the XZ2 and XZ3 since it's using the same sensor.

Actually, it depends when you consider the XZ2, but with the XZ3 it's a different story. Because as opposed to what you said, there's not only the sensor that matters, there're also the various softwares/algorithms that change over the time. And the XZ3 has the most recent ones, which is said to improve low light photography, and it seems to works pretty well.
The sensor itself doesn't need to be changed because it's still one/if not the most advanced available right now.

Please explain to me how a 12,800 iso is anything other than a marketing gimmick? The images at that iso are pretty much unusable. Extreme grain. I have a Nikon D5100 DSLR and anything past 3200 iso has a lot of grain.

Sony can never win camera battle ever. They got no innovation at all on the camera side of things. Nokia : Pureview, Samsung : fastest af, dual aperture, lowlight, Google : hdr magic, huawei : night mode magic. Sony : ar effects 😂

Gyro-assisted Image Stabilisation is what Xperia phones have been using since the XZ Premium... It's all over Sony's product pages for the XZ series onward.
CactuarKnight nah it’s been here for very long. To me, the best EIS was in the Z5. It’s even smoother than my XZ1 in video stabilization!!!
@@seepeoplenotme when you agke a photo in manual mode on your xz1 is it capable of going as low as ISO 40. In manual mode it only allows me as low AS ISO 50 but when I took a photo in auto it was at ISO 40

😂 And btw, all these things about the S8 being a better phone, sure it is, but it's not as fast. And it gets hot much easier and takes longer to cool down.
I did something with my friends pjoen and told him it would get a bit warm because that's what I'm used to my phone getting. He picked up is phone and said 'a bit warm' then I felt it and it was actually hot. Then while my XZ1 took about a minute to cool down his s8 barely cooled.

The real reason the other companies are sticking with 12MP cams is because Apple is doing it and has been. The pixel pitch on this camera is big enough and there are advantages that high MP count can get you that large pixels never will.
As long as the software is there, and the pixel size isn't below 1.2microns, high MP is a better route as you can always bind pixels the way that Huawei does.

Ok for us regular dudes who have to wait until the 5th of October to look and feel the phone in question. I was at Carphone Warehouse in Leeds and I am friends with the Sony Ambassador there. I actually HAD A DEMO of the phone and had a quick play with it-in person, as the ambassadors always get it before anyone else. WOW WOWOW is all I can say, the phone is beautiful, the bezels are THIN and that is an understatement, it feels fast and that RED colour scheme ooooooooooooh my gods! The side sense that most reviewers are saying is a hit and miss affair is NOT the case at all. It worked every time with me as the key is to tap the side of the glass and not the metal body. The colours are punchy at default however I advised the rep to put it to professional mode which is the most realistic and the phone display was even better. She showed a 4K HDR DEMO on her phone and i did the same one on MY 4K HDR xz premium. I will say this, her's looked MUCH better! The awkward placement of the fingerprint scanner can be learned within a few mins. Let me return to the looks- It is as sexy as hell and any video you see on the net DOES NOT do this phone justice-when you see it in person, as it is BETTER looking than the Samsung s9 and the s9+ and I WOULD say the screen is BETTER (cannot compare to note 9 as they did not have that) Camera app is quick as a flash (pardon the pun) and the phone was faster than an 'Ice-skating Mongoose being chased by a frisky lion on the plains of the Serengeti! The shape of the phone was so damn sexy that if one compared it to the shape of a woman then it would be like DARLENE Ortiz in her hay-day that is from ICE-T's POWER album! Dark, powerful, sexy and full of class..what a phone and I was instantly smitten! My love and passion for Sony Mobile has been rekindled... BUY BUY BUY! Lastly on a personal note, I can see why Samsung fans troll reviews of this phone, as it is actually has a MUCH better screen than the S9+

I respect your decision on not going to throw in the drawer maybe the best overall camera device on the market and that is the HTC U12 Plus.I ve seen reviews about the audio of the XZ3 witch is compared with the Pixel 3 but not with the U12 witch is not the loudest but the quality of the sound is much richer.I want for sony to succeed but I don't understand why they are going only half way with thair camera and I want also for HTC to succeed but the marketing, selling solutions are big problems and both of them are exceptional companies.

EIS does not, and cannot, work with stills, it's for videos. so disappointed in these reviewers, i almost forgot why i stopped watching their reviews in the first place. and those low light shots are damn awesome compared to the smudgy htc, and which lens is flaring now?

In manual mode the lowest my XZ1 can go is ISO 50. But in Superior auto I took a photo and checked the details. It was ISO 40.

I'd say the XZ3 for everything - except low light photography smarts.. That said, I'd love to have more time with the XZ2 Premium. Also, don't forget the XZ3 gets Pie out the box. Yeah, all things considered- the XZ3 is what i'd put my money on

Because they don't want to have a half baked feature. S9/n9 4k60fps is around 5 minutes. Sony might still trying to find a way to extend the memory buffer for slowmo.

Well I don't think there's been any official confirmation but I seriously hope there IS an XZ3 Premium coming, and soon!
Hope they'd consider something like the Z Ultra, which was the largest display ever for the longest time until recently and most fun for me to use. XZ3 Ultra should be 6'8 to regain the largest display ever title.
Looks like a lots of things are coming together for Sony, they were teasing 5G all year, spent half the XZ3 announcment on teasing 5G again, they even tweeted by accident that the XZ3 is 5G. Seems like and they said it too, that they have a lots of plans and hope for 5G. Then they have a new camera, a 48MP one. We were hoping to see it in the XZ3, didn't happened. pOLED, lets hope they will have a 4K version soon, they mentioned it long time ago. haven't seen it yet. There is a new AI powered version of DSXEE on their new high end music player. If it all gona happen in one phone we will have a good year.

You are right. If Sony decided to release all those 5G and 48MP camera stuff in the XZ3, then the XZ3 Premium will no longer be anything exciting apart from having a 4K HDR P-OLED display.
It's just quite right that they've retained the IMX400 sensor for the XZ3, though I could've hoped that it had the brighter f/1.8 lens instead of purely being transferred from the XZ Premium, XZs, XZ1 family, and XZ2 family sans XZ2 Premium.
@@troy5568 agree but I would add to that OIS as the reviewer also pointed out. The camera in question has so much more to offer if only Sony complemented it with wider aperture (maybe variable) along with OIS. Sony sensors really stand out for their dynamic range and high ISO performance. It's really sad that Sony is stupidly not capitalising on these factors. I am sure looking out for that 48mp camera 👍🏼
I love my XZ2 Premium Chrome Silver, with Sony's Unique Dual Cam Aube Fusion of B&W and Color create better detail result day or lowlight, amazing result so natural. 😉
There's no doubt about it - you have some extremely cool camera tech there, and a beautiful looking phone too. Excellent choice- very classy.
No Motion Eye?
I'm probably going to get crucified for this, but I got one of these as an upgrade, going away from a Samsung Galaxy S7. I really don't like the camera on this. I must admit, it takes lovely close up shots, but everything else just doesn't look right to my eye. It either looks blurred, or far too sharp. I want to like it, but I just can't.
I am 150% sure you didnt update s9+ to the newest soft which improves camera performance a lot...(its not ota, only odin flashing) also 800nis not max iso of s9+ dude... It is max you can get on pro mode, auto goes way higher

Actually s9+ camera is overrated lowlight photos ar awfull you see the sky as grey tinted instead of black and this why i prefer pushing the iso so the camera will take light from where is exist and for live focus the s9+ indoor is awfull u need sunlight to get nice shots so i think I'm going back to sony after trying samsung

Sony xz2 premium has best low light shots with ISO 51200 if Sony improved this sensor and use ois and bigger sensor in xz3 premium İst best camera ever!
I hate the curve design. My current sony has curved edges and it sucks. The screen protector can't cover the whole screen and it isn't designed to bend. I hope the XZ3 infinity goes back to the box shape.
Interesting perspective. Not heard anyone say that they don't like the curved screen yet. But I suppose you do have a point. I don't have a screen protector on mine but I do have it in a flip case which works for me.
I had a flip cover on my previous phone but I'm not a fan of it. I prefer a rubberised cover with a tempered glass protector. I tend to drop things.

Isn't it the same as XZ2? The best camera is Google Pixel 2. The XZ1 takes really good photos but are definitely behind Samsung and Google Pixel. I'm gonna skip on XPERIA phones until the fix the location of the fingerprint scanner.

I own both the Mate 10 pro, and the XZ2, and the mate 10 pro camera, wins - hands down.
It makes the XZ2 look like it's 3 years behind.

Everything is fine but there are many people with wrong thoughts about smartphones
I have a humble request to you as I did and suggested to gsm arena , phone battles and what's gear channel and now they are doing great
I want you to make videos on the purpose of using single camera by Sony , pixel then in same video use of different types of dual camera , triple camera and hundreds of camera in a smartphone !!!! If a company make use of bigger camera and pixel size , then we don't require any dual or thousands of camera in a smartphone similarly
Make another video clearly doubts of many about the mediatek and snapdragon processors and explain what is dual octa or hexa core processors
Third video explain and provide details on what a mid range smartphones should have these features such as gorilla glass , metal body etc and what premium device should look like and thoughts and how to pick a smartphone !! These are more usefull than doing speed test and all ...do it after this
And like this you can tell most of the things about smartphones

I really prefer the side fingerprint in previous Xperias, I am currently using the Xperia XZ premium and I am waiting till they change the position of the fingerprint scanner or at least use a updated face unlock camera by removing the fingerprint scanner.
I am currently using xz2, coming from the xz premium, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the fps placement. Within a week, you will get used to the new placement. I still have my xz premium, going to sell it on ebay.

Thinking about it I might give it a try, but to be honest this is one of the reason that I don't like it the other is that it just makes the phone look ugly. Omg!!! Those lens falres. Sony pls improve your camera. Without a good camera your product will not sell. Miles behind than pixel or galaxy camers in low light. Give consumers ois, 1.7 or lower aperture . Improve the algo. Dont cheat on comsumers just beacuse they love your product. Having only optimized os will not help ( one plus, pixel all are snappier too). Hope they take their smartphone division seriously.

where tf do u think they'll put the fron cam on! an customized opening part that'll ruin the waterproofing rating and will break anytime!
ISO 800 at F1.5 with the larger pixels and optical stabilization of the Note 9 produce better images in low light than ISO 12,800 at F2.0 with the smaller pixels and digital stabilization of the XZ3.
A higher ISO in no way means authomatically better low light results. That image you tried to use as an example is proof of that. It's not "relatively clean" by any stretch of the imagination. Is noisy as F, lacks detail and colors are horrible.

I've put forward the shots I got, along with my views, interpretation of the images themselves and general opinions surrounding the composition of each image with the regards to the technology used etc. But they're just my opinions based on having used the phone and all the top phones from Samsung, Huawei, HTC and so on. No OIS, piss poor software processing, a lens with heavy lens flare issues. This phone is the very definition of a half baked product.

Yesterday I went to Sony store in Dubai and came to know that pre orders for this phone are breaking barriers. Best thing is there is no marketing and advertising from Sony like Samsung and Apple does.

I don't think its a question of RIP Sony. The video is excellent, and the slow motion video is best-in-class. The XZ3 Premium is likely not that far away... and I'll be testing the XZ3 against the XZ2 Premium soon too...
