But the one that won’t start was a waste of money for Harley Davidson. It was recalled and defective. Motorcycles and other vehicles need their tech downgraded to the essentials. They can’t fit through narrow archways and doorways. They can’t fit in elevators.

Seeing the Glides again reminds me of when we lived in the States and it seemed like everybody owned a Harley and looked down their noses at European and Japanese bikes. I hired an Electra Glide (in 2017) from Eagle Rider in Las Vegas for a tour to San Francisco and down to Los Angles. You should try a tour like that. I had a chuckle at the old footage on you trying to start the Bonnie, I felt for you on that one. It's not necessarily a flat battery. Chances are, he rode it for about 10 metres and then switched it off. There's a bit of a glitch with the electronics on the M8s that causes the OEM battery to deplete itself if this happens. Pretty sure if the battery gets switched out for a Yuasa, or similar, it would be fine.

Then when the bike won't start they send out one old man in a van to collect a bike that weighs well over a third of Ton which nearly ended in a disaster is crazy. So easy to ride once its moving. Those lithium batteries arent the done deal yet. The ignition switch needs to move one more step to accessories position then it wont drain the battery so quickly, not sure how long you had it switched on when you were filming etc but 11v too low to start. These take time to fire up as they push the oil round the engine before firing so i think the battery takes some hammer each start up. @ It seems to me that HD assume value is directly related to the weight of the product-the heavier the better. Has they bunged a couple of marine lead acid batteries in those capacious panniers they could have charged £60K.

Hi Freddie, I moved to the US from the UK just under 2 years ago and being a biker for the last 25 years and selling my MT10SP and Honda Africa 😭before moving over here, I couldn't decide what bike to get. To experience the full US biking experience I bought a HD Electra Glide Ultra Classic in a beautiful metallic red colour scheme with fine piping detail and chrome accents. With the 1600 engine and updated twin pipe exhausts it sounds every bit the deep, vibrating monster you think it would be. It has a real presence!
I live in a beautiful area of North New Jersey so taking the HD on Sunday morning rides to various Diners was a real please. So, I decided to plan an 11 day long trip riding down to North Carolina to visit The Wheels Through Time American Motorcycle Museum (which is well worth a trip) and over to Tennessee to the ride the infamous "Tail of the Dragon" road which snakes through the Smokey Mountains and has 318 curves in 11 miles!
I was really looking forward to the trip and couldn't wait for the leaving day to come, so I said to my wife why don't we have a shake down run and have a weekend away on the HD so we can ensure everything is good and we're ready for the big trip. So we rode down to Cape May, which is the southern most tip of the Jersey Shore, which is also beautiful and well worth a trip, and found after just 4 hours of riding, I couldn't wait to get off the thing!
Every aspect that created the "theatre" of riding this monster became a source of irritation, the noise, the vibration, the weight, the lack of power! I hated it!
Needless to say, we did the trip, but went in the car, and the HD is for sale. They look good and sound great for a Sunday morning blast, but anything more than that and they're totally impractical.
Also FYI - Those Electra Glides are renowned for killing batteries. Mine was perfectly OK one week, it's kept on a trickle charger in a garage, but the following week didn't have enough power to crank it over. And do you know how much the batteries cost? $200!!!!!!! And that's not a HD battery. Add another $100 for that!

11Volts is a flat battery. It should be 12.6V and about 14v when running.

While I wouldn't recommend it for the Hardknott Pass, it's perfect here in the states when you have a thousand miles of motorway to cover in a day or so.

Shame the H-D Ultra Classic had a flat battery, I'm sure you would have enjoyed the ride to the NEC on it , I would have been interested to see how you got on with it, don't worry about the weight , once you are on the move you won't notice it and it will be a "doddle" to ride. Found it odd the chap from H-D didn't arrive with a set of tools and a replacement battery for you , changing the battery is a 15 minute job and would have saved you both time and effort. Look forward to seeing how your trip to the NEC went on the 2024 Road Glide.

Oh dear, typical Harley's, so delicate. But you must try the Honda Goldwing, another heavy bike but because of the boxer 6 cylinder and fuel tank under the seat, it feels light weight. But a much better ride and reliability that Harley. Don't get me wrong, I do like Harley's, but preference is the Goldwing.

Battery requires tons of cold cranking amps to turn over if it hasn't been run in ages. It's a big motor and the battery needs to keep topped up.

Titel could also be, "Why not to buy a big ass Harley!" It's the same with the Honda Goldwings, why?! just buy a car! Or a trike, or a motorcycle with a sidecar. These huge things make zero sense and ooze, "i don't now how to waste my money, so stupidly i bought this, thinking i'm a cool biker now!" On a positive note, greatly entertaining video!

@@markanstey2654 I'm not sure, but modern bikes with computers don't like that, they start giving problems with the CPU. At least, some of them. Couple that with a brand new bike that's not yours and you have your answer.
