  • Golden Milk: Turmeric and Ginger Tea with Coconut Milk
    Serves 2
    INGREDIENTS
    1 1-inch knob fresh turmeric
    1 1/2-inch knob fresh ginger
    4 black peppercorns
    2 teaspoons ghee*
    1 cup full-fat coconut milk
    1 cup coconut water
    1 tablespoon raw honey
    pinch of salt
    DIRECTIONS
Dice your ginger and turmeric into small pieces and pulverize them in a mortar with the peppercorns; alternatively you can grate them or dice them into tiny pieces and smash the pepper with the back of your knife.
Pour the coconut milk, coconut water and ghee into a saucepan, add in your turmeric paste and salt; set over a medium-high burner just until little bubbles just begin to creep up the sides of the pot. Turn off the heat, cover the saucepan and allow your tea to steep about 3 minutes. Strain through a fine-mesh strainer or tea strainer into your cup. Stir in the honey and enjoy warm.
    Notes
Golden Milk is traditionally made with cow's milk. If you wish to omit the coconut milk and coconut water, simply substitute 2 cups whole milk.
If you cannot find fresh turmeric, substitute 2 teaspoons organic powdered turmeric.

I've been taking Doctor's Best Curcumin with meals for years. Stopped taking it for a time to see if it was actually doing any good. Uric acid and cholesterol went up in the labs since. Joint pain from an old injury in the mornings after a month of no curcumin. Immediately got back into the routine of taking it to see what results on the next labs. I'll have to give one of those two you've listed above a try once this bottle runs out. And I'll definitely give this recipe a try too! Thanks for sharing with us!

    • @Thefreshp
      @Thefreshp  9 лет назад +1

TheASTrader You're welcome. There is a third lab that makes a bioavailable supplement but their price point was much higher, so i got the cheeper of the bunch. But now I'm curious to know if it is more effective than juicing fresh turmeric? I'd much rather take the fresh stuff than the capsules.

Joe Serrano It so delicious. It would be very beneficial as a daily drink. I think if we drank golden milk in leu of coffee or tea, we'd be doing our body a favor. It tastes mildly of ginger tea and curry, but without the spice. it's really lovely.

I must admit, I was a bit skeptical about liking this drink. I've known about it for a couple of years, but was never brave enough to try it.
What I found is that this drink is AMAZING!😋
I have a question, though. I live in a rural area so I cannot get fresh turmeric and I know I can sub organic powdered, which I do, but what about subbing powdered organic ginger for the root?
I don't have a problem finding it, but I wondered if I was out, and in a pinch, if it would work?
    Thanks!😊

      en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piperine
According to this both black and white pepper contains pipeline. Since it's what gives black pepper it's pungency, I'd venture to guess its more prevalent in black pepper, but still exist any in the seed (white pepper).

So I wonder if you could use coconut oil to replace the Gee (SP?)
My experience with Turmeric. I have several degenerative issues. My neck & spine is degenerating. Along with a couple of herniated disks. This causes me to be in pain most of the time. I've done a ton of things to try & cut the pain. I've tried several of the homeopathic remedies with limited success.
We happen to have a homeopathic pharmacy down the street. The DR told me to try an off the shelf product that he's had a lot of success with. The main ingredient is Turmeric. The product is called D-Flame by the company NOW. It took a while but I've seen a marked decrease in inflammation & pain. I'm a bit more Mobil now. So I though that I would add my 2 cents...LOL
I will have to try your tea as I like coconut & I have dried turmeric. I will probably sub coconut oil for the Gee though...LOL
    Thanks for the tip...:)

Recently bought a really nice chunk of goat butter.
I'm amazingly surprised by it. It's more delicate and very tasty.
Makes me wonder what it will be like to make ghee out of goat butter...
    hmm.
    The tea looks soothing =]

Due to work I don't usually have the luxury of making this nightly however I need it nightly. Do you know how long it would last if I stored it in a sealed mason jar?

Tracy Bruring If you refrigerated it, you could get 4 days out of it.

Wonderful. I did the paste as well but jeez sometimes I get hime, mow, care for animals, clean and drop in bed; this is very important for me due to a recent diagnosis of psoriatic arthritis. I can do every 4 days; then I will have a jar to grab and go; thank you very much

      I really do love mowing; on my 3 acres it takes a while this time of year however it fills me with peace, i get a chance to look at stuff around the yard etc so that really is my time for me;

I seen over on your Instagram page that you canned asparagus. Any chance you filmed it?

L Porter I did not. we had 20lbs of asparagus and 4lbs of mushrooms to put up in a day and I needed every second of that day to get it done.

It's the body's inability to expel uric acid from the system, and it builds up in the joints causing inflammation.

Turmeric is good for detoxifying the liver, it certainly would be worth a try.

I've been told that in the Ayurvedic traditions, they do not cook with honey - nor do they add it to hot drinks, that it becomes toxic to the stomach. Have you heard of this?

+Bella Cirovic I've never heard that. When I get home I'll check my books.
