You might believe your triggers are justified but what if they are distorting reality and not working in your favor? Being able to resist these reactionary thoughts and feelings and maintain control is easier said than done. Lauren Nanson shares her trigger journey and the passion she leaned into to reset her narrative. Ultimately, developing resilience techniques to help young people navigate an increasingly triggering culture and become mentally strong. Lauren Nanson is a resilience coach and speaker who specializes in helping adolescents recover from mental obstacles and setbacks. Lauren had to overcome cancer early on in life, and the mental difficulty of the situation challenged her to develop resilience techniques which she continues to use to this day. After seeing how the pandemic wreaked havoc on the mental health of young people, she set out to use the lessons of her own endurance to help those who were affected. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Nice work Lauren. As a child I didn’t have friends until I was 13. I learned some of this early. I even wear a bracelet that says fear is the mind killer.
That said there is also a practice to know when to speak up or when to walk away. Sometimes the message will not be heard by the person doing the triggering. All good stuff and I think you did well in associating science and theory to practice!!!

@@katyschildmeyerksapparelde2441 Fear is the mind killer- I love that. It's so true. And yes there is a time to speak up! And your voice is so much clearer and powerful when you're not speaking from a triggered place.

It’s SUCH a great exercise to be CEO of my own mind… especially imaging what person I want to be and what this person would do… and training ourselves to self control… SOOO GOOOD!! I love using Ted talks as gaining knowledge to help myself and others. I love how some Ted talks happen just when you are ready to listen to the message and actually apply it. I grew up on the Rez and am scared that I raised children that are coddled. The triggers here in my community here on the Rez may end a little differently than other communities. I have always remained cool under pressure and turned my negative environment into positive. I even have been in life threatening situations where I was not scared and was able to diffuse the situation to resolution.❤Thanks you all ❤

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.”
