Andrew Berry… you are my HERO! I have been following and learning from you for many years. I just accomplished my first basket setting! It literally brought me to tears. I have been trying and trying to maintain the heat control and not melt the other wire or joints. I owe it all to you! You’re the best. ❤

I know this video is old, but as you can imagine, I go through several of your videos for tips and tricks.
I would like to give you a million thumbs up for a great habit you have in your videos.
Whenever you make a small mistake, like when the ring slipped out of your pliers in this video, you will verbally acknowledge that it happened and keep going. You don't cut out the mistake and try to make it seem like you can't make mistakes, and that is so reaffirming to someone like me who's still at a semi-beginner stage. It shows me that even pros can have their item slip and that makes me feel better when it happens to me.
So thank you for your honest and amazing videos

If you use thicker wire for the bottom gallery then this can be filed to fit the profile of the inside of the ring or shape the bottom ring into a curve to match the contor of the ring before you start

I put liquid flux in a small spray bottle & spay the entire piece-dry the flux to a crust w/a small flame BEFORE heating the metal --repeat untill the whole piece is covered. This will coat the whole piece to protect from firescale-solder then pickle 20min(cold). Soldering on a charcoal block also creates an atmosphere to help prevent oxidation.

Where can I find that chart that you use for the prong in this video

Thank you Andrew. How would ypu go about tempering the prongs? I'm working in 925SS I'm afraid that now my prongs are ( now badically dead soft due to heating) too soft, to hold the stone. I don't want to tumble finer details from my rings. Would you hammer work? How would you do that to small say 5mm x5mm basket setting? I'm just affraid of a customer loosing a stone.

very helpful. even for only having the last part uploaded XD. But I wonder, how did you pull this off without hardly getting any firescale on the assembly?

ah. well i have a similar hand torch, and I've noticed my pieces get completely covered in fire scale before even easy solder even considers running

Do you mean bearer wire. Like a rectangular section but with a step for the stone to sit on?
