  • Hey Guys, in this video I will show you how to create a soldered, pear shaped basket setting using silver wire. You can use other metals if you want.

    Materials:
    - 0.8 mm (20 ga) wire
    - 1.3 mm (16 ga) wire
    - 1.6 mm (14 ga) square or round wire
    - 10 mm faceted pear gemstone
    Tools:
    - Flush cutters
    - Torch (I use a Iroda PT-550 CR)
    - Hard/medium/easy solder
    - Soldering surface
    - Quenching bowl/pickle
    - Steel block
    - Hammer OR
    - Rolling mill (this works much better)
    - Hart and flame burrs (or similar)
    - Jeweller's files

    Good tutorial. Thank you. But I am not sure how we went from the stone sitting way on top of the bottom to sitting in deeply. I don't think the little bit of filing down the edges did that.

      Yes, you would file the setting down in the corners, or taper the inner edges a little if the stone won't sit snug from the start. Hope this explains it :)

    Hi! I think your pendant motor might be I'll. Needs new brushes, perhaps. It sounds VERY unhealthy. I really recommend a micro-motor if you want to check those out. Inexpensive dental units are available. Love your channel.

      Hi, thanks for that! it's a foredom motor. It seems to work fine but I have no reference on what they should sound like! Do you think it is 'slipping'?
