- This video demonstrates safety of upper GI endoscopic examination test used by doctors to detect digestive system diseases. It doesn't require intravenous anesthesia or sedation. A lot people have anxiety, fear and they are scared of taking up this test whenever it is necessary. In the expert hands the test is safe and it takes maximus 4-5 minutes for examination of digestive system aliments. Taking anesthesia is although necessary in select group of patients as per your treating doctors advise and recommendation.

I just had an endoscopy done with sedation. I had a nice 45 minutes of sleep and remember nothing of having a tube shoved down my throat. It is 2023 and we have wonderful anesthesia. I will always opt for it.

Hey. I am 15 years old and I did my endoscopy 1 month ago. Trust me I was scared asf too but it won't be that scary. You will feel uncomfortable for sure but there's nothing more than that. Go for it. Praying for your health

I’ve had 3 upper endoscopies (including one today) honestly it’s not bad as it seems. I’m very anxious as a person to begin with and if I can get through it, so can you! They literally give you Ativan first to calm you down. You don’t feel a thing because they’ll sedate you and it’s literally the best 30 min nap ever. I woke up this afternoon feeling the same as I did before mine and the only uncomfortable thing I can tell you is that you probably will have a super sore throat the first day but it’s gone by the next morning. Good luck and I hope you go through yours! It’ll be totally ok trust me!

@@vpasha11 In my case they didn't give me any anesthesia but only a spray in my mouth to numb the throat.

I m suffering from Upper abdominal Trembling (thar thar- kapane) tightness, super duper Blotting... & very high bp so i cannot vomit or cough. Can I do endoscopy without coughing??

Literally just got sent home frm this procedure. I decided not to get sedated after the Dr making it sounds simple and painless. I was calm and mentally prepared. I had the throat spray. As soon as they put it in the first time I gadded and pulled it out. The 2nd time I tried to be as calm as possible and let them go further but had constant wretching and had a full blown panic attack they try carry on but they could tell I was in distress and completely traumatised... might be my ptsd but yeah I'm so upset as I really need it done. They also then didn't want to sedate me incase I came around while inside me and had another panic attack... my only option may be general anesthetic.
I was debating whether or not to be sedated when I had mine done a year and a half ago. Believe it or not, I was in a way, more scared to be sedated because I thought it would feel like I was losing control and get a paradoxical reaction as a result but my doc assured me that the sedation works VERY well at getting you to relax. My original thought was that even if I was gagging that I would at least know what was going on. I considered the throat spray but then realized that that could be more traumatic with feeling like you can't swallow. So I figured I will most likely get the sedation but would see what they suggest at the appointment. Well, they didn't give me a choice lol my blood pressure was so high due to anxiety that they gave me double dose of sedation (they gave me fentynal, midazolam and benadryl). The rooms spins a bit once you get the injection and your vision looks like there is a magnifying glass installed in your eyes but then you feel very relaxed and sleepy and EXTREMELY detached from any panicking from the tube going down. I didn't even have to swallow it and they gave me oxygen too. I rolled over and was out just as if I was tired naturally after about 3 seconds. I woke up and panicked a LITTLE bit and tried to yank it out but I went back to sleep. Then I woke up to about 4 or 5 gagging fits which were not pleasant but it was tolerable and NOT tortuous. The next thing I know they tell me they are taking it out and you just feel VERY well rested! I have EXTREMELY bad panic attacks and that sedation calmed me right down within a minute...piece of cake! Hope your next experience is better! :)
@@devab2895 I did first one without sedation I almost died because of my Oesophagitis and going to do it again but now the doc said I'll be sedated

@@devab2895 Ask to have it sitting up with your head towards the sealing so you don't gag. Try it with a finger first to see if you gag doing that. You most likely won't

Hello, sorry I hope it hasn't be too uncomfortable and that it was bearable or short. Also wish by vomiting you maybe don't mean throwing up but more like gagging. Yeah I know it's not pleasant but not always gagging results in throwing up and as they have you not eat for at least 6 or 8 hours, not sure, stomach should be empty so nothing should come out of your throat when you gag and while it doesn't feel good you should at most burp and belch when that happens and stomach contracts and it can be more uncomfortable if contractions are very hard.
