  • This is the saddest commission I've ever had, but it's been a privilege to make a casket for my friend Stuart.

    Steve, that must have been a tough commission. My sincere condolences to you and of course Stuarts family. All I can say is that the care and effort you have put into that is a fine tribute to your friend. Stuart couldn't have had a better skilled carpenter build his casket. Thank you for sharing, it is a very personal and touching video.

    Props on managing not only to make this but to make a video whilst doing it. The emotion is evident. Stuart was lucky to have you as his friend. I remember it took me months to be able to get to the point where I could make a small casket for my 4 legged friend without breaking down. There's no way I could have coped with doing this so soon. Always regarded you as professional and even though this process probably broke your heart you still managed it. Nothing but respect for you Steve.

    This must have been a tough build. Quite an honour, and very brave of you, Steve, to make a video out of it to share on RUclips, thank you so much for sharing.

    Such a beautiful casket. Obviously very difficult for you but also an honor to be asked and I suspect a bit of healing for you to help with your friend’s final wishes. My condolences to you and Stuarts family for your loss.

    Thank you for sharing this. And sorry for your loss. In moments like these I tend to seek refuge in music. May I suggest Hannah James' 'The Carpenter'? It seems very fitting in a way. There are several videos of her performing the song on youtube.

    So sorry you've lost a good friend, Steve. You've made a lovely job of his casket. My query is, why did you complicate the design by adding a few degrees of taper, as opposed to making a square box?

    • @SteveMaskery
      @SteveMaskery  2 года назад +1

      LOL! Seemed like a good idea at the time? I like the aesthetics of it, I just didn't appreciate the extra work when I set out.

  • @10MinuteWorkshop

    Very moving Steve, and an interesting build. Only in the UK/EU would you need the timber to be FSC certified before burning! And no disrespect to your friend, but I’m sure we’re all wondering what the emissions might be from the ‘resident’ of the casket on their final journey…

    • @SteveMaskery
      @SteveMaskery  2 года назад +2

      That's a good q, Peter. But I am told that emissions are "virtually zero" because of the very high temperature and the fact that the combustion products are burned a second time. I assume it's on the same principle as a Rocket Stove.

    I'm curious, when you made your corners did you do 43-43 and 47-47 or 45-41 and 45-49?

    • @SteveMaskery

      Neither. They are rebates, not mitres.

    • @SteveMaskery
      @SteveMaskery  5 месяцев назад +1

      You would have to ask your local authority, I guess it would depend on the emissions.

      In this video he was giving a gift of love for a friend and he was feeling some strong feelings that were difficult to cope with. He was exemplary of the highest character that men can have. With respect, Russel, please give him a pass. If he should make a mistake, which I did not see, it should be overlooked in view of the bigger picture. Good job, Steve.
