  • Most people are afraid of death. But members New Zealand’s Kiwi Coffin Club are facing it head on. Founded by Katie Williams, a former midwife and hospice nurse, members build and then decorate their own customized coffins as a way of celebrating their lives and highlighting their unique personalities. Beyond the coffin building itself, the club has built a strong, supportive community where people can have frank conversations and reflect on their future with Members think this healthier approach to death can help other people who might otherwise be lonely or afraid at the end of their lives.

Interested in starting your own coffin club? We did a followup interview with Katie as well as Kate & Kate, the founders of a coffin club in the UK to get their stories and advice.

Old folks in the US used to build their own coffins, and sleep in them to make sure they fit comfortably.
