Confusion comes when the Bible is framed as a crafted single book by God. When it’s simply a collection of writings concerning Gods dealings with the house of Israel through his prophets and eye witness recollections and gospel stories of Jesus Christ’s ministry and atonement, death and resurrection becoming the savior of the world saving us from the consequences of sin and death. Then some history, teachings and written letters by the apostles but mainly concentrated on Paul. Then John the beloved had his grand revelation. Yet in that revelation it reveals God is not done with his dealings with mankind and much is to still come. I appreciated your critical thinking. We get stuck in traditional thinking too much.

This reminds me of the last verse of john: And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.

The title page of the Book of Mormon says two of the main purposes of it are : 1- (the most important one) Bring people to Christ, 2- Prove the Bible right.

I appreciate your words on the Book of Mormon. As someone pointed out, the idea people have that the Bible is a singular book as opposed to a collection of books that were compiled causes the “do not add or subtract” talking point to be a little annoying when outside the context of the actual book the phrase is written in. The Book of Mormon is not meant to be added to the Bible, but to go hand in hand with it like the New Testament to the Old, the Torah and Talmud. Using critical thinking, with people all over the world, on islands and on the other side of deserts, mountains and oceans, and with all of the historical and archaeological evidence that people lived all around the earth for thousands of years, if we believe all are children of God and we all came from Adam and Eve, and that God so loved the world that He gave His Only Begotten Son in the Flesh to die for the sins of the world that all who believe and repent in his name may be saved, why would He not have given prophets and scriptures to His children wherever they were, because it’s not like the natives in the Americas had any contact with the Jews, Greeks, etc in order to hear God’s Gospel. I don’t believe a loving Father in Heaven would allow his children to live in heathenism and idolatry without giving them chances to come unto Him. We believe God does love all of His children and we believe the Book of Mormon was His words to the people or some of the people that lived in the Americas. Now, if one doesn’t want to believe the Book of Mormon is true, ok, but as a former atheist, I would at least think God would have provided prophets and scripture to other people throughout history, if He truly did loves us and wanted us to come into Him. Thank you, and God bless you, your family and the work you are doing.

Funky. You could also just understand that both of those warnings were kind of like ancient copyright, don't mess with my book, or you'll get plagues. Thus those passages were probably just referring to the texts of Deuteronomy and Revelation respectively. Thus theoretically additional revelation could be received without adding or taking away from those texts.

Perhaps it is talking about not adding a new meaning or not creating a new story.

For sure. You and I aren’t allowed to add to scripture, or like you said, add to the meaning. Only prophets can do that. That’s the role of a prophet only.

With over 2,600 versions of the Bible, some with wildly different words in them, how do you account for those?

I think it's good to compare different translations and learn.

The bible also says 1 Corinth 15:2. According to Galatians 1:8, Joseph Smith was also hit with God's Curse because he preached a gospel other than the bible. Was that curse the plague that you were talking about? Was it death? Would we have seen that plague if Joseph Smith lived out his life?

Not that I'm expecting these questions to be answered. These are obviously hypothetics that we will never know. Just some of my thoughts.

From my perspective Joseph Smith preached the very gospel of Jesus Christ in the Bible.

Hi friend, what do you mean by preached a different gospel other than the Bible. In referring to Jesus Christ and the Atonement he made for us, Acts 2:36-44 is a great example of Simon Peter proclaiming Christ’s Gospel and the power that it can be. It’s the same one my friend. It’s a privilege to see Him change my life by turning to Him in thought and deed.

    • @wynnedwards94

@AlexBlas215 It is not the same Jesus Christ because mormons don't believe Jesus is God.

@@wynnedwards94 actually we do, he is God incarnate. Only he was Worthy and Able to carry out an Atonement for all of mankind. It had to be an eternal and infinite sacrifice, no other man could have met the demands of justice like Jesus. He has provided mercy and because he has paid the penalty for sin, he has provided to mercy to all those who will come unto Him. He has overcome death that we would not have unavoidably perished forever. Never being able to reach our divine potential. His grace and power are able to reach the darkest of places. Why not share his love and joy in this lost and dying world.
