I have the Rode VMP too now. Love it. I also have the Saramonic SmartRig+, which came in real handy on a gig one time, and I want to experiment with stereo audio with it, and I have the VideoMicro. I'm also looking to try and get the Zoom F1 recorder. It's super versatile, and would have came in handy on another gig I had. Check that one out. The F1-SP would be the way to go for the initial kit. Also, WELCOME BACK!
Just got a the Tascam DR-10L for lav mic recording. Love them! No more worrying about wireless signals going in and out, or having to find a spot on my rig to mount a receiver. No, you can't monitor the audio while you're recording, but with the amount of settings it has to fine tune your situation, including a back up track, you really can set it and forget it and not have to worry about it. It's awesome, and the sound quality is great too, of course.
I actually really appreciate that someone took the time to sit down and talk about this stuff. Because as you said, everyone has, or wants that rode mic but no one ever talks about it. I only found it by seeing a picture of it with that big "rode" on the filter. And I want to know what some of this stuff is

Hey man! You should definitely make a separate video talking about the your post audio workflow! I recently did an interview type client job with the rode ntg 1. Recorded to around -15 on the spot and most of the audio turned out pretty clean but the cooling system for the key light ended up ruining some of the audio completely even though its supposed to be a super directional mic :O #confused And I hate that the adaptive noise reduction in premiere is so damn slow to work...now I'm just rambling haha! Keep up the good work man!

Great video. I just upgraded from the dr05 to the dr60mk2. My 05 finally bit the dust after 6-7 years. I like the 7artisans wireless Lavalier and my Rode Video Mic. I use a Sennheiser Pro MKE 600 for my "studio" mic. I would like to see some about your audio editing. You audio on this video was great....and I have watched other audio gear/audio editing videos that did not practice what they preach. keep up the good work.
You're not the only one Ryan. Have you used premiere before? Ever since I've used that function my views dropped by 50%!!! Somehow I can't seem to attract the same views anymore but I haven't changed anything to my format. Something weird is going on with the algorithm, that's for sure. I can't lay my finger on it.
Hey Man Happy Birthday! I loved the review and recommendations. I currently had to return my RODE video mic go because it was not compatible with my IPhone 8. No worries I got the RODE Video Mic Pro Plus. So much better and no hissing noise. These external shotgun mics are amazing. My favorite feature with the pro plus is that it auto turns on when your device takes video and actually powers off if you aren’t taking video anymore. Saving you the frustration of leaving the mic on and throwing it back in the case only to realize next time you go to shoot a video that your amazing mic has no battery left.

Ryan, i have a canon M5O, tascam recorder the saramonic SR-AX100 and a Comica cvm-v30npro shotgun mic. Have you tried using them (or similar) altogether setup with, the tascam on the left and the comica on the right and adjusting with the Saramonic amp? What are your thoughts? Or examples? Or possible upcoming video? Thanks for all the info.

Set the mic to 20db , and lower the audio on the camera to 2 or 3
