Wow I was just talking about trading up my digitakt for an octatrak but I have not even scratched the surface of this thing…wow thank you for showing this!!
this was really informative, i feel. learned quite a few things. i'm coming at digitakt without knowing anything about it's midi capabilities, so to see the basenote + 3 extra notes for chords being alterable like that was a real eye-opener. Same with using the same channel but changing presets per step, pretty neat. Looking forward to part 2 - was really impressed to find out that the digitakt can send LFO to specific CC, could very well imagine that being very, very useful.
Excellent Digitakt midi tutorial. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort in doing it. I'm sure I speak for all of us Digi learners in saying, we all really appreciate your efforts. People like yourself, really really help the rest of us to learn so much faster. Thanks Bro!
this and part 2 were a great help! i've been putting off learning the midi stuff until a beatstep i just bought turned out to be a major disappointment (no way to receive clock while DAWless makes it virtually unusable). this made it so nice and easy. thank you! would love a part 3 with more complex tings, LFO, generative experimentation, etc.
I currently use an ipad with a griffin studioconnect interface running Modstep to sequence my synths, coupled with an iphone with a sampler app to provide drumming. The Digitakt is finally the piece of gear I was looking for so long: Sampler, hardware sequencer, not as expensive as the octatrack and just the right size to fit my desk. Saving every cent for it. Getting closer to hardware nirvana....
Congrats on finding the perfect piece of gear for your needs! It's definitely not always easy to find it. Digitakt is a great piece of gear. While an ipad app can be good and handy, it's still a different experience to use a dedicated hardware machine with real knobs and buttons!
I found that my MicroMonsta would not react to the very first thing illustrated, which was turning the program change encoder, until I hit the trig button (button 9) one time. I was going crazy trying to figure out what was wrong and finally tapped trig button 9 once and saw the display on my MicroMonsta react.
I wish the Digitakt had better MIDI sequencing.. it would be nice to record direct from a MIDI keyboard with 8-note polyphony, and in real-time with capture of CCs and velocity, etc. Still, it's great as a step-time sampling drum machine.
Yes, I have trouble with my number seven trig, it gets sticky, wonky. However, I've found if I do a few real fast stutter taps on said trig. It un sticks. Unfortunately this a big flaw in this wonderful machine.
How do you assign a Digitakt track to an external instrument? I mean, without making it play a digitakt sound on that midi channel? There is a "midi out only" option somewhere, right? edit I think the answer was in the video, "The midi tracks are the lower row of the sequencer", which means this row is dedicated to external gear. If I undrstand this right, that makes the digitakt a great command central for a dawless setup.
After I stop the sequencer, the settings on my synth patch reset to the initial settings. Digitakt is sending some information for it to do that I'm assuming. Any tips?
I notice that you, too, had to press the encoder a few times in order to turn on the midi. Is this due to the digitakt being new/does this get better over time? The same thing happens with mine. Not a huge issue but strange that it doesn't work from one tap.
"Regarding not being able to record chords via Chromatic/External - this looks like a bug, and we are looking into solving it." That's a comment from an Elektron staff member, hopefully it will be sorted in the next update. Some other comments in this thread: www.elektronauts.com/t/the-digitakt-feature-request-thread/39863/81
Yes it is. You need to make sure that Digitakts midi settings have "receive notes" enabled. Digitakts autochannel is set to 14 by default. This means that if your external keyboard uses midi channel 14, it always controls the track you have activated on your Digitakt (which is very handy if you want to control many tracks with your external keyboard). If you only want to control one track with your external keyboard, regardless which digitakt track is activated, set your keyboard to send midi to channel 1 if you want to control track 1, 2 if track 2 and so on. Seems like you can only do this to the 8 audio tracks and not the 8 midi tracks. So use the autochannel option with the Digitakts midi tracks. I just tried to record chords from an external keyboard and it didn't seem to work yet, but single notes work great.
Ok, thank you for your response.. I am reading only has 4 voices of polyphony but could you recording sequences with more polyphony from a external keyboard?
If you record the sequence to Digitakt, it only has 4 note polyphony as it can only save 4 notes per step. You can assign two or more midi tracks to the same midi channel on Digitakt. But you would have to record notes separately to these tracks.
Wait, so you can't just record chords by playing multiple notes? You have to specify the type of chord for the root note? can you make inversions or odd chords?
yes yes , it did change ... it is possible to record directly the chords played on the keyboard ... i havent tried from an external keyboard playing a midi plugged synth tho .. but yes yes it does record your played chords ! :)
I think you'll find the MPC Live is a bit more expensive, and the drum programming is nowhere near as flexible and powerful. I do love MPCs though, especially the MPC 1000 w/JJOS2XL
I hate you a little bit that you explained the better known but didnt explain other pages with cc control and shit. Cause those are much more confusing...
Can’t wait to get a Digitakt and Pro 800. Chord sequencing was the only thing holding me back. Glad I was able to find it here.
Thanks! Best Digitakt midi guide I've seen. It would be cool to see explanatory menu diving videos.

I don't think those are "bro" hands
Best MIDI Mode Demo so far!
Thank you!

You're the first one to show this, thanks ever so! 🙂
Oh great! There are still more things in the midi sequencing that will be covered in part 2!
Can't wait! 🙂

This finally solved my MIDI issues with my Digitakt + 0-coast. Thank you!
not for me... O Coast too...
@@LunaticDandy did you figure it out with your O Coast? I can't seem to!
Nice video, straight to the point.
This is fuckin bad ass. I love your style as a video maker. You make the digitakt sound so sick
Lovely Chrods
Very helpful video. Thanks!
great tutorial
Is it possible you can show the settings menu as you did in the other video,?
cheers though very helpful video
Very Tidy Tutorials ! ! ! Thanks !

Micromonsta FTW!
Best! Thank you !!!!!
Really big thank i Can use my minilogue xd with my digitakt 😍
Pad 1 is sticking down when I press it. Anyone else have this problem?
Andrew Munsterman one of my pads is sticky too... and it seems to come and go

Yes, my pad 1 is 'sticky' as well.
Hi, does anyone know how to find out what channel your synth transmits midi? I’m using a Roland system 1
You're awesome
Can you send retrigs over midi?
this was very helpful
thaaaanks
Glad to hear it was helpful!

Nice, thanks! Any idea if retrig is planned for an update?
I don't know if it's planned to be in the future updates but would be cool!
Hi, micromonsta accept bank change?
It doesnt work to me. I can play minova but cant sequence it
Hi do you know if you can do this with the digitone ? I can't figure how to do trigs to set different sounds.
Thank You !!!
Why is D blank?
yeahhh

Mine is the same did you solve this?

I would assume it getting fixed, but I don't have any official information about that
Awesome but I hate the fact that you can't live record polyphonically on the MIDI tracks. I hope they update the Digitakt to allow it later on
Yeah! I really hope they will change it with the new updates!

Ok thanks for the input! Great to hear it's being worked on.
Thanks.

Ok perfect I get it.. I have listened has bugs with the midi implementation...
There are still some bugs and problems with the midi, but I'm sure Elektron will sort it out soon
Ok I want both! Haha

I heard that this might be a bug and is being worked on! So it might change in the next updates.
yes yes , it did change ... it is possible to record directly the chords played on the keyboard ... i havent tried from an external keyboard playing a midi plugged synth tho .. but yes yes it does record your played chords ! :)
Lovely hands😅
why would I buy this?At that price I could just get a mPc

The way she touches those synths! I wanted a demo not an erotic display!
uhm no that's just on you dude, they are just playing the synth
