Yeah, the collections keep growing and growing. Remember me Steve when you want to thin out your collection. I can take that first “Dust” and “Aphrodite’s Child” “666” off your hands(for a decent price of course). 😅 Soon with the weather, you’ll be able to listen to a lot more. You do get a lot of new albums in! It would be difficult (especially for you) to do Jim’s rule of “Bring one in, Take one Out”!

Really enjoyed the discussion. Sitting here in my listening room literally on the verge of retirement so hopefully my avg listening hrs should increase significantly soon. Collection size is such a personal thing but it is great to have a lifetime hobby to enjoy throughout the journey.

Oh man, now you got me thinking about how old I am…. Oh well, I left my collection to someone in my will. Let them deal with it 😂

Since I have about 36,000 records - plus a ton of singles and 78s, I have often given this subject considerable time and thought. I am also no longer, regrettably, a young man. Is it practical? No. Is it wise? Nope. What's the end game? Don't have one. I worked a long time and dragged myself through some pretty unhappy workplaces to get to this point. Collecting records brings me joy (I'm heading out to a record store as soon as I finish typing this) and that's my bottom line. If I start worrying about practicality, and pruning, can I listen to them all and being disciplined, I might as well be back at work. As for the inevitable? I'm sure my daughter won't be too put out selling of her crazy father's loony collection after he's gone. I'll give her your number.

Darrell, you have one of the most incredible collections. I would love to see what it would look like if you had all your r3cords in one place. That would be very cool to see. It does make you wonder what to do with it Darrell. I figured Dr Darby was not jumping up and down to get that collection and I Ave the same issue with mine. Maybe my grandson will decide to like music. If so then I know what I can do with it. Otherwise I have to wonder when do I start to sell some of it off. I would love t know your thoughts on your collection and what you will do with it. That would be fascinating

Great session! I started collecting again 2 yrs ago...kids finally old enough to not destroy & appreciate. My collecting rule is I am only managing a 2x2 Kallax (8-9k minutes of playback) for listening and a single crate for exchange / sale. I would rather invest in the equipment to play the best sounding of whatever I or family members want to hear.

Great to hear your philosophy on collecting. I like how your able to stick to the amount of space designated That takes some will power that any of us fail at!

I have a couple hundred records. Had to split the collection in my divorce, probably one of the more difficult things I had to do was figuring out what was her record and what was mine. I try to buy one or two records from the used bin each week, a lot of times cause the sleeve looks cool or I think I had heard of the artist(s) previous. I still have a hard time getting to everything. Mostly I stream during the day since I am sitting on my computer working but if I have people over or after work I will throw on something while I cook or tidy up. At this point; I do not have too many records.

Gidday guys, I have never heard of Herbie Mann but have no need to seek any of his records out. As to playing the records I enjoy playing the same record over and over so the math about how long it would take to play all of my records is a bit distorted. I do have albums that I haven't played as yet but will - how often I will play them is unknown. I do have way too many but keep buying.

hey guys, the way not to upset your wife when new records arrive is to not have a wife.
