Hey guys! Glad to see you decided to cover NMS evolution. Just a few suggestions:
If you played the game on Sunday on Xbox, you played the previous version. Update 5,0 is dropping only today for Xbox and Switch.
About the performance comparison, what you can do it use Creative mode and find a portal, then you can travel to a planet by inserting a glyph sequence. Just use the same ones on every platform and you will go to the same planet and the same position (the portal on the other side).

@dorian6021 Minecraft has alot more going on in terms of depth then NMS does. NMS sky gameplay is just chores the game forces you to do in order to not die or to keep your ship running. Minecraft has an end game goal, a robust and seemless focus on building and editing the entire world. Minecraft allows true and total freedom to build whatever you want and have it truly feel like it belongs in the world.
There is more personality in your average random Minecraft seed than any of the randomly generated worlds of NMS world.

Why on earth would you blindly purchase anything? Your only experience with them so far is that it took them a few years after their last game to get it to decent state, and that they've done well in continuing to build out the game since then. How does that make it a good idea to blindly purchase everything they release going forward? If anything, it should be "I plan on picking up their new project two years after release".
Be smart, don't pre-order, wait for reviews and streamer reactions, don't blindly order anything whatsoever. Just because they did well in recovering from the travesty that was NMS release, doesn't necessarily mean they'll do any better with their next title.

All I'm saying is, never pre-order, wait for release, and buy what you want to buy. It never felt like a proper "game" to be, as in great gameplay, but more like the procedurally generated space that it is. Shooting rocks and collecting them to build something so I can shoot more rocks and collect them to build something so I can shoot more rocks just isn't fun for me. And the other stuff wrapped around that basically core mechanic can't overcome it imo. Even playing it in VR didn't really move the needle for me--and I love VR. This would be great for you lots to do a deep dive on. Especially the pc version where the setting options are extensive but have some strange outcomes with regards how they affect performance.
For instance the game won't run at high frame rates without triple buffering as opposed to normal or no vsync. The frame gen doesn't work and dsr doesn't seem to work how you'd expect either. I hasten to add this is on a 4090 with a 7800 x3d.
Furthermore current builds seem to understand utilise both the GPU and CPU which is strange.
Would love to see your thoughts and perhaps some recommended settings!
    Thanks for your videos

I love No Man's Sky but I don't play aimlessly. I currently play every seasonal expedition and sometimes replay the main story when there's a massive update. It's fun to replay the story when you know how to make the most of the systems. The seasonal expeditions are fun, faster and different than the story mode to play No Man's Sky and earn cosmetic rewards. In an expedition you meet TONS of people from different platforms in the player hub area previously only known as "The Anomaly". You also encounter even more players as you visit the static (not procedurally generated) way points and quest locations since everyone is going to the same location.

HG clearly long term goals for this game. It’s one the best space exploration games out there. Small improvements are prioritized over sequels. It’s seeming like a good business model. I don't think everybody is going to permanently leave No Man's Sky when Light No Fire comes out. Sure, they will temporarily head over to play the new game - but No Man's Sky is like Animal Crossing, you never really quite put it down because it's designed to be endlessly replayable. It's also a completely different game, as NMS is focused on exploring galaxies and LNF is focused on exploring a single planet. Different people will prefer different experiences. I also wouldn't be surprised if Hello Games keeps making updates.
Also - there's so many ways now to get to where you want, I don't think it would be a problem to be able to get to the same place to do testing.

I'm one of the few who loved the game at launch, and I disagree that the game wasn't beautiful then. I found all kinds of pretty planets that I wished I could have made my home, but the game didn't allow any sort of building at the time. Now it does. Whether the game is your cup of tea or not, it's always been a massive accomplishment in procedural generation. Hello Games have literally created a universe. Pretty wild.

Once you set up a Stargate and travel through it, you can always go back, as long as it has power. I always run solar and several batteries so I can always get to my old bases or other areas I want to travel to. I never tried getting on with multi-player because I'm not convincing anyone to play with me lol but all I'm saying is that it's technically possible to easily link up and warp to your friends base almost Instanly once your Stargate is properly established.

You can also just invite friends to your system. They'll just show up there, then the space station and other teleporters will remember and you can go there anytime.
Also if you are in a friend's party but traveling different systems and want to connect again quickly, I just hop into the Anomoly. Upon relaunching out of the Anomoly it gives you the option to warp to your friends system.
So ya, I'd say it's pretty smooth and slick connecting and exploring with friends. There are some glitches and stuff that isn't synced with eachother sometimes though.

Don't worry about finding each other! There is a multiplayer lobby on board the Space Anomaly! It's a mobile spherical shaped space station you'll be able to summon pretty early on in the game once you complete the tutorial missions. The anomaly will find you, and once you go inside you'll be able to call it to your location wherever you are. Inside the station there is a multiplayer hub where you can all meet up and go on missions together.

When I play with my friends we almost always... let me repeat... almost always run into weird bugs that break immersion or stop us from progressing with our objectives or just screw up the fun-having aspect of the game. Unfortunately I don't think Hello Games is going to fix multi-player in No Man's Sky. I hope for a different experience in Light No FIre.

just on the aimless and boring part, it is an extremely open ended game but it has pretty much the Minecraft appeal of you can dedicate you time to creating or exploring there is a small story line through out that you can choose to engage with but it almost feels like before I start a session of nms I set a goal of what do I want to achieve in playing today which I think is interesting.

It’s plenty more than a visual update guys. For one thing, each type of extreme weather planet as well as storms 100% effect the gameplay such as your mission and exploration planning and preparing!
    There is a new expedition.
Certain layouts have been revamped in recent updates, including menus, inventories, etc.
You can get in Star Wars sized space battles with freighters and space stations and Dozens of starships!
You can also get in the Other kind of Star Wars space battle…where it’s you against one or two bad guys in fast, heavily-armed fighters similar to yours! 🤙🏼
You can literally build your own starship now! Which I very much look forward to figuring out how to do.
Not to mention…I think I’m getting close to finally reaching the Nexus, or Anomaly, or whichever that special and important meeting place is. Based on discussions and comments I’ve read, it quite seems like once you reach this Space Nexus, the game is really only just beginning!

You could run the PS4 disc version on PS5 then export that save to PS5 (updated version). The game has a save transfer option. I don't know if it'll work considering the changes from launch but if it's using the same seed still the you should have some direct comparisons. The only problem I can see is perhaps the game would require a new seed after updating. But also if it doesn't require a new seed then you won't see the new additions even on PS5.😂

Alex comment wasn't on point, the update came to the Switch and the game looks awesome there, NMS 1.0 on ps4 was a great game, they built that game and all that tech in. 3 years, there's a lot of noise around nms 1.0 because the game had a lot of noise around, Sean said many times before launch that not everything was going to be at launch, but apart of the noise at launch, thousands of players did like the game and stick with it. Best procedural generation and exploration was actually in NMS 1.24 The Pathfinder update, then the procedural generation and colour palette had to be turned down because at the time it was complicated with the tech they had to bring all the new features with the taxing procedural generation. Now with 5.0 it feels that they were able to bring back that procedural generation and the good colour palette and the fact that 5.0 runs on the Switch with the new water is absolutely nuts, the thing that the Switch version does not have is water reflections and on the ps5 the game is just gorgeous on the TV, this game deserves a proper DF analysis on alm platforms in the current form. And for DF guys it's really easy for you to make comparisons, just start a creative save on all platforms and locate a portal, then you can input the same coordinates on all consoles and you can visit the exact same location on pc, switch, Xbox and playstation.
