Always loved the actor that played the judge Fred Gwynne. He was Herman Munster "Frankenstein" in a sitcom that ran from September 24, 1964 to May 12, 1966. It was called the Munsters. He died a year later after his role in My Cousin Vinny
... and before that he was introduced in a weekly tv comedy series calleld "Car 54 Where are You?" in which he co-starred as a cop, officer Francis Muldoon. I remember it well - it was hilarious. Another member of that cast was Al Lewis, who also moved on to "The Munsters" and played Grandpa.
You notice that Vinny sleeps just fine, like a baby, in prison. Because, the joke here is that an Alabama prison sounds like a normal night in Brooklyn. So the curse has been lifted.
I think in prison while the background noise level was loud, it was STEADY. Having it dead-quiet and then a sudden loud noise was the problem Vinnie was facing.
"Oh, and here's a picture of me from behind. And I didn't think I could feel worse than I did five minutes ago." Freaking love that line and Pesci's delivery
Several lawyers who reacted to this film have said the courtroom scenes are some of the most accurate of any courtroom movie. They actually use the clips in law school as examples of good technique.
The courtroom scenes are actually quite accurate and have been shown to law students as a representation of correct criminal procedure and trial strategy. Also, as others will tell you, Marissa Tomei won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for this role. I'm impressed that you recognize that this movie is deserving of high accolades instead of just enjoying it for the wonderful comedy that it is. Most don't really get that. Thanks!
What's interesting in this movie is that really isn't a bad guy (other than the actual murderers). The police thought they caught the murderer. There is certainly bias and it's a small town so they were personally invested but at the end of the day, they were happy that justice prevailed.
the two boys riding bikes on the square were just a couple of regular kids. they were in the right place at the right time. they were asked if they wanted to be in a movie and they got the roles as extras
An underrated classic. I, especially, love that there are no, real, bad guys in this film. Aside from the ones who actually committed the murder. The prosecuting attorney was just doing his job like he was supposed to and played fairly, and dismissed the case as soon as it was clear the kids were innocent. The judge was a hardass but still, mostly, fair. Can't blame him for losing patience with Vinny. And the witnesses weren't malicious, just incorrect in their recollection. It's rare to have a film where there is high stakes conflict with no villain.
Great thought on the judge (Fred Gwynne) being like the embodiment of the law. That's perfect. Also the fact the actor was 6'6" and Joe Pesci is 5'4", plus the camera angles making it seem even more was great.
The judge is Fred Ward. He was Herman Munster from the '50s TV show "The Munsters". He was Frankenstein's monster. His wife the Bride of Dracula, his father-in-law was Dracula and his little son was a young Wolfman. His whole family was just a bunch of munsters.
The actor playing the judge played Herman Munster in the TV series The Munsters. Other movies featuring Marissa Tomei include Anger Management, Wild Hogs, The Wrestler and the most recent Spider-Man films. Besides his roles as gangsters, Joe Pesci also stars in Lethal Weapon 2, 3 & 4, and the first two Home Alone films
One of my favorite lines is when he's looking at Mona Lisa's pics and says "Here's a picture of me from behind....and I thought I couldn't feel worse about myself." I say that last part a lot lol.
A sequel was partially concepted, but never produced. All I know it the movie was going to open with Vinny putting a barrister's wig on and entering a British court room where we find Mona Lisa is on trial.
Marissa Tomei is a stone cold fox. This is a great comedy and I can watch it every few years for a good laugh. Fun reaction and glad you liked it 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
The great thing is how the last supposed person who you'd think would add technical expertise as a witness was, unemployed hairdresser Mona Lisa Vito. I love how she put it in the prosecutor's face when he gave her the trick question. Just as an aside, Marisa Tomei was gorgeous.
Great movie. Also one of my all time favorites. Please play "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" with John Candy and Steve Martin. Thank you so very much young man. Have a Blessed Day and also a Happy Thanksgiving. Adios Amigos. Adios.
16:50 that was an accident that they left in the movie. 19:01 he beat him up by surprising him with a sucker punch and by throwing his whole body into the punch. 22:24 the funny thing is he got the best night sleep in jail then he did out of jail. Mail reminded him of the city noise back home. Nice ambient noise and it made him more aware the next day. My favorite parts of the movie is in court when he says “Two Youts”, when Mona Lisa takes the stand and the whole messing with the judge on what his name really is.
Knocking over the chess board was an accident on Pesci's part but they kept it in. I like to think it was because Fred Gwynn gave him such a perfect look. I developed a HUGE crush on Marissa from this movie.
Not only that but it works. He heard "gallo" because the chess pieces were knocked down and still falling. It makes the idea that he didn't hear "callo" more believable.
this is a brilliant movie - 10/10.... its nothing to do with law movies but another really good movie from the 90s with MARISA TOMEI is - THE PAPER - you should watch it! she's a great actress and hot too
15:55 NY Italian here feeling special 😅🙋🏻♀️🤣 I love this movie, when I was little I used to recite all her lines for my family lol she won an Oscar for best supporting actress, well deserved! 🙌🏻
Absolutely my favorite comedy. So many great scenes. My favorite was when Vinnie destroyed the first witness with the grits argument. Also when he punched out the guy to collect the $200. Marisa Tomei and Joe Pesci were magical together.
Somebody already mentioned this subject, but real trial lawyers love this movie, and I have heard that some law professors even use it as a teaching tool, because this movie is more true to the actuals rules of evidence and trial procedural rules than any movie we know of. I mean, they made it all funny, but the only real thing they changed a lot was how quickly the case went from arraignment to trial. No case goes to trial the week after arraignment. But other than that it was almost perfect.
The thing i love about this film.. There is no villain.. No bad guy. Usually they would paint the opposing lawyer as greedy or ambitious.. The cop as corrupt. the judge as biased. But in this the entire film is just made up of people all trying to do the right thing. Even the judge who is hard nosed and doesn't take BS is just that.. Hard nosed. But not evil. He just expects people to follow the law to the letter.
Marisa Tomei technically was in at least one “mob” movie. She played the daughter of Sylvester Stallone, who was a mob boss who was trying to turn legit. It also has Tim Curry in it. If you end up watching it as a reaction or just on your own, just keep in mind that you’re not supposed to take it seriously. It’s 100% a comedy! The movie is called Oscar and it’s kind of like My Cousin Vinny in a way… It has a series of misunderstandings that just don’t seem to stop. It wasn’t a popular movie by any means, which is probably why if you do watch it, maybe just watch it on your own. But it was a really cute and fun movie to watch and I think they did a really good job with it. I’m glad you enjoyed this movie! Great reaction. 💙💙💙
You’re right to be scared of those billet trucks full of logs. One of my high school classmates was killed at a red light when the cables holding the logs in a billet truck broke and collapsed on his car.
I think practically every reactor I've seen watch this misses the joke that somebody from Brooklyn can sleep soundly through a riot because they're used to that sound. I know I missed it the first time around
Also when the prosecutor is explaining how the word “verdict” comes from all our little ol’ ancestors from England as the show a closeup of the black juror.
Great movie one of the best legal movies not just a great comedy. Other great legal movies are The Rainmaker ,A Civil Action, A Few Good Man. The part that always kills me is the public defender who looks so perfect and than he is completely useless where he cant speak at court.
As a Brooklynite, I can testify that the proximity of a Chinese restaurant is vital to a Brooklynite's emotional wellbeing.
As a Londoner, I can confirm the same is true here.
Los Angeles here, same. Everyone knows the best Chinese spot wherever you are.
"90s Marisa Tomei, even today Marisa Tomei..." I'm right there with you brother!
Vinney did catch a break when he was in prison the last time. The prison sounded like New York city. So, he finally got a good night of sleep.
Always loved the actor that played the judge Fred Gwynne. He was Herman Munster "Frankenstein" in a sitcom that ran from September 24, 1964 to May 12, 1966. It was called the Munsters. He died a year later after his role in My Cousin Vinny

I think in prison while the background noise level was loud, it was STEADY. Having it dead-quiet and then a sudden loud noise was the problem Vinnie was facing.
I thought it was because he's used to the nightly quintessential Gambini discussions 😅
I wonder if people miss this joke nowadays since Brooklyn is more gentrified now.
@@PheOfTheFae I doubt it, but then I grew up in the Bronx and lived in East Harlem for years and neither was as quiet as a church.
The actor who plays the judge was Herman Munster in the tv show The Munsters. He was also in Pet Cemetery. Such a good actor
Part of the comedy was the clash between rural Southern culture and urban northern one, but I like how the movie treated each with respect.
"Oh, and here's a picture of me from behind. And I didn't think I could feel worse than I did five minutes ago."
Freaking love that line and Pesci's delivery
"Oh, you're a smooth talker! You are! You are!"
Marissa Tommie is stunning and this film is a golden classic
"Yutes" is from a discussion between the screenwriter and Pesci, he actually said that and screenwriter really asked: "What is a yute?"
I'd like to imagine that Pesci answered the screenwriter the same way as in the movie, with a sarcastic, "oh, sorry... two Youuu-THs."
That bit is still a running joke in my family because my Brooklynite father definitely says it that way. xD
I love it.

Such a great movie, epitome of the 90-s: great story, great writing, amazing acting, zero CGI and yet so entertaining

Need more of these types of movies
Pesci played his role to a T, but Marisa Tomei finessing her role is a sight to see!
Great chemistry too!
This movie has some many little gems. One of my favorites is when Vinnie tips the jailer.
Great thought on the judge (Fred Gwynne) being like the embodiment of the law. That's perfect. Also the fact the actor was 6'6" and Joe Pesci is 5'4", plus the camera angles making it seem even more was great.
that judge is herman munster
I met Ralph Macchio a month and a half ago. Very cool dude to meet and very kind
Everything about marissa is amazing in this film. The rest of the cast isnt bad either
She absolutely stole the show... If you ask most people about the movie, she is all they remember.
Fred Gwynn was Herman Munster. He was also in Car 51, Where Are You? Marisa Tomei won an Oscar for this role.
Al Lewis who played Grandpa on the Munsters, also played a judge in the movie USED CARS.
Car 54!
Yes, every time I see a deer along the highway, I hear Marisa saying "A little doe eyed deer"
Fred Gwynne was Herman Munster in TV's "The Munsters" in the '60s.
"Ya get dat? Da whole store got da flu."
The judge is Fred Ward. He was Herman Munster from the '50s TV show "The Munsters". He was Frankenstein's monster. His wife the Bride of Dracula, his father-in-law was Dracula and his little son was a young Wolfman. His whole family was just a bunch of munsters.
The late Fred Ward was another amazing actor from "The Right Stuff" and "Tremors", for example. This was Fred Gwynne.

My bad, man. I just knew Fred Ward was an actor and got the two mixed up. Fred Gwynn also acted, and did an awesome job, in Pet Cemetery.
Celebration of Italian culture- NYC!

Definitely cannot forget Marissa was also in Untamed Heart with Christian Slater😉😪
Also Crazy, Stupid Love
She also won an Oscar for this movie. Well deserved.
The judge played Herman Munster in “The Munsters” TV show.
Just in case no one said it yet The judge is Fred Gywen. He was Herman munster on the 60's tv show the Munsters.
An absolute classic. Lisa's car knowledge always cracks me up and dude that stutters, I laugh so hard my stomach hurts.
One of my favorite lines is when he's looking at Mona Lisa's pics and says "Here's a picture of me from behind....and I thought I couldn't feel worse about myself." I say that last part a lot lol.

Great reaction. Loved Lisa❤Classic
One of my favorites!
the transition from "You were serious about that" to Vinnie on the bus back to jail was genius
"Identical" 🤣
The tall tall judge- Fred Gwynne- was Herman Munster in the classic 60s tv series. Peace, all
Marisa Tomei is red hot in this movie 🔥
True that brother 👍🏻
Right?! 🔥🤪😜
Amazing performance of course by Marisa Tomei...and yes, always been a wow to her then and now!
That New York Italian accent works for me, not gonna lie
They from Jersey.
100%.
That punch that Joe Pesci gave the guy with the $200 dollars was hands down the craziest 1 punch in cinema history.
The judge is Hermann Munster

This is easily in my top 3 comedies of all time; I watch this a couple times a year and it never gets old with so many great actors here.
This is such a fun movie. I've seen it multiple times and it's always enjoyable to watch.
This is (#3) in my top 5 favourite movies of all time. My brother and I quote it daily haha!
Knocking over the chess board was an accident on Pesci's part but they kept it in. I like to think it was because Fred Gwynn gave him such a perfect look. I developed a HUGE crush on Marissa from this movie.
Fred Gwynnes looks during this movie were classic. His deadpan no nonsense judge performance is epic
Marissa is everyone's crush
Not only that but it works. He heard "gallo" because the chess pieces were knocked down and still falling. It makes the idea that he didn't hear "callo" more believable.
He is big because he used to be Frankenstein in 60s

Fred Gwynne….Herman Munster. (The judge) He was always my favorite. Love him. He was perfect for this role.
Perhaps the laws of physics cease to exist ON YOUR STOVE!
I had the biggest crush on Marissa Tomei! When she said “positive” they way she does in this movie, that crush became lifelong love. 😂
Brooklyn Girl ❤
Joe Pesci was also funny in The Super.
So this movie's court room procedures are so accurate that some law schools actually show this movie to their students.

I love this movie, when I was little I used to recite all her lines for my family lol she won an Oscar for best supporting actress, well deserved! 🙌🏻
The scene with the owl was not planned one just happened to land in that tree so the whole scene was one shot

Marisa Tomei was only 26 years old in this. Joe Pesci is actually 22 years older than her, and even Ralph Macchio is 3 years older than her.
According to the trivia on imdb she was 27 but close enough
I was just thinking Marisa Tomei had really nailed that accent, then I found out she was from Brooklyn.
Did you say two Utes ?
Thanks for sharing your reaction to this very fun movie.
They're called Screech Owls, for obvious reasons.
The owl shot is one of the great shots ever, I don’t care if anyone agrees… It’s perfect..
I think they are called screech owls for the sound they make.
The owl was slightly startled.
if only real justice was as clean and fair
Always loved that movie. I grew up in North Jersey and definitely had a crush on Marisa Tomei.
Sounds like somebody got a little crush on Marissa lol
This movie was so popular they did a MCV musical in Vegas for a few years
Watch With Honors - Joe Pesci is awesome in it. Has Brendan Frazer too
Also can you pls watch House Party if you have not..such a classic comedy
Omg, anyone else loved 8 heads in a Duffel bag? I hear a lot of people didn’t care for it. 🤷🏽♀️ I would be curious to see Caped Informer’s reaction.
Untouchables. Amazeballs good mob film.
Vinny only wears a coat and tie when he's bashing in a punk's head in a different movie.
The director did Nuns on the run which is also brilliant. I urge u to watch that starring Eric idle and Robbie Coltrane..
Live the judge aka Herman Munster from the tv show The Munsters.
