I just replaced an automotive air conditioning compressor in my son's car this past weekend. I purchased it from Rock Auto and there was a label on the new compressor stating it had 3.5 ounces in it. I removed the plugs and hung it upside down so that I could accurately measure it. I recovered a few drops. Moral of the story..... never trust the manufacturer.... EVER.
Been doing auto AC for nearly 20 years. In my experience as long as there is about the right amount of oil, then it doesnt really matter how much. Measuring it in to the exact ML is practically pointless, unless you are able to completely empty (flush) the enire system of oil. As there will always be oil spread thrpugh the evap/condensor/hoses etc. I always add a squirt and pull it in under vacuum before charging and never really had oil related problems. I have seen the result of lack of oil. But never after adding oil during a charge
Sometimes I miss those reciprocating A/C compressor. Very durable, downside it takes a lot from the engine when it turns on. Looks like that is a rotary compressor. Much ease to the engine to turn. Not drawing out power from the engine. I'm not expert just like what I watch on u-tube very interesting 👍
Those scroll compressors are bulletproof. I have only replaced them for the case gasket leaking. I find them leaking at 250k miles so it is not wise to reseal.

Don't do much AC work but definitely will check. Appreciate the tip
I use vegetable oil in all of my compressors.

Ive always just drained them, I always add my oil/dye mix in my a/c machine anyways.
Pretty sure the refrigerant helps transport the oil, but could be wrong
You are correct.
You are exactly correct.
Refrigerant carries the oil.
He probably misspoke.
