My wife, sister and brother in law visit Penonome in Nov 2023. While staying at a resort at Playa Blanca we hired a private taxi and went there to check out the town. Not once did we ever feel uncomfortable while walking about. While we didnt speak any spanish, the we found the local people warm and friendly. One fellow even said "Welcome!" as we passed by. There were so many shops to check out. The resort life was fine, but our best experiences were mingling with the locals and doing our best to communicate with them. There was a house for rent posted on a paper with pictures outside a local store" for rent $450 per month."
We all had a wonderful visit and we are planning to come back in the future. Hopefully on one of the location tours! 👍

it's impressive. It will be the best public hospital in Panama.
Visited about a month ago, loved Penonome, the mountains, the people, but it was very dry.
The dry season is mid-December to mid-April. If you visit between May to November you'll experience the rainy season -- when things are lush and green in Panama.

The best beaches in Panamá are in Cocle province called Riviera Pacífica

Sounds a lovely town but an Americanized food scene is definitely not an appeal. More interesting to learn about the local goings on.
There are many more Panamanian style restaurants than upscale restaurants.
