  • The Clyre Valley Railway is an incredible 009 narrow gauge layout!

    Having seen Clyre Valley Railway in a magazine a while back, I always knew it was a layout I'd like to see in person one day. Imagine my surprise then when I turned up to the Warley Show last year where the layout was being exhibited.
    Clyre Valley Railway is a truly inspirational model railway. Modelled in 009 narrow gauge, the unusual W shape of the layout provides plenty of interesting angles to film from as well stopping the viewer from being able to see the entire layout. This really allows the trains to disappear naturally into the scenery as they make their way round curves or under bridges.
    With a nice busy station at either end, the stand out feature of the layout is the central viaduct which, even in 009 is incredibly impressive. With trains constantly running back and forth, this is a fantastic layout to watch.
    Thanks for watching 😃

    Clyre Valley was my favourite layout at Warley last year. Such a quaint layout with so much detail ❤

      It was definitely high on my list too - I'll have a video of my absolute favourite coming very soon hopefully! The great thing is that I had no idea Clyre Valley Railway was going to be attending so I just turned a corner and there it was. A very welcome surprise and I'm glad I've seen it in person. Thanks for watching 😃

      My pleasure! I was in the same situation until I stumbled across the layout at Warley - very glad I got to see it in person and they do a great job at keeping things moving. Thanks for watching 😃

    Lovely and so smooth . I do find thet bumpy rail joints can detract from narrow gauge layouts

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  4 месяца назад +1

      Yes it's a lot more tricky to get the joints smooth in smaller gauges so it's really impressive that they've managed to avoid that. Thanks for watching 😃

    Ah! The scenery. Suddenly, what could be described as my "tat" would work well in 1:76 scale. Imagination + a little patience could yet yield a worthwhile outcome, as details seem to be the fun part.

      It definitely has a lot going on. The two stations at each end were essentially two separate layouts connected by the main running line in between so it really meant there was a lot going on at any given moment. Thanks for watching 😃

    Thanks for the video! Are you able to remind me, what code of track did you use on Pitley, and what you would recommend I get when starting a layout?

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  4 месяца назад +2

      Hi there, it's Code 100. Unless you're already experienced with building model railways I'd go with that as the Code 75 can be a bit more delicate and fiddly. A bit of paint on the rail sides goes a long way to making Code 100 look much finer though. Thanks for watching 😃

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  4 месяца назад +1

      I have featured Rossiter Rise in exhibition videos before - most recently in the Beckenham Exhibition video I think. But it's been hard to do a full video as every time I see it very little seems to be moving. It's a great looking layout but the ones I tend to feature in stand alone videos are the ones where I have enough footage to warrant a separate video. Thanks for watching 😃

    A fantastic layout. The scenery is very impressive and the models are superb, except!!! One of my little pet hates is seeing locomotives running without any crew and passenger coaches completely empty. Yes, I know it's a model railway and not real life, but in my opinion populating your model is as important as building impressive scenery.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  4 месяца назад

      Having exhibited layouts myself I'm always aware that sometimes there just simply isn't enough time to do everything you want and that having an operational layout that runs well takes priority.
      Additionally at a show you're more likely to be running locos and rolling stock that are owned by other members of the operating team in order to have a greater variety of stock to run. I've yet to see a layout that is perfect in every single way - that's why they say a model railway is never really finished. Thanks for watching 😃

    Hi Philip here I've been with my train layout for years now but my track plays up some reason do you think it because it's old track.i do get my train going round but it stops raining let me know as me and my girlfriend want to go on it and it's 00 scale.

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  4 месяца назад +1

      Are you cleaning the rails regularly? The age of the track itself shouldn't matter that much. If trains stop in one place consistently then it could also be that power isn't getting through to that section of track. Thanks for watching 👍

    • @ThatModelRailwayGuy
      @ThatModelRailwayGuy  4 месяца назад

      @@philipgreenhill2782 You need to clean the railhead every so often to remove dirt that's built up which will stop power getting through to the locos. The most simple method is to use a track rubber, though some people prefer to use an IPA solution or even a specific track cleaning wagon instead.
