If you want to do more Zack Snyder movie, I suggest "The Legend of Guardian: The Owl of Ga'hoole". It's one my favorite and criminally underated animated movie.
I really think this movie was ahead of it's time. It was made in 2009, right at the beginning of the superhero craze People weren't ready for this type of story telling yet in these type of movies. But easily one of the best made despite the changes from the source
To be fair there's barely any changes from the source. Like it's frame for prime the most comic book accurate movie I've ever watched. They leave out like one or two sayings and change the fake psychic aliens to atom bombs. I will say that I think Snyder didn't quite capture the myopic tone as well as he should, like it's very important to realize that none of the characters are in the right and I almost feel like maybe Snyder just got wrapped up in the cool superhero aspect
Zack Snyder did a fantastic job recreating many of the most iconic images in the graphic novel in this film. Jackie Earle Haley was born to play Rorschach, there is no one else who could do a better job or look more like his comic book counterpart. Also I highly recommend the 3-hour Director's Cut of this film. Crucial plot points that were cut, presumably for time, are put back in and helps to explain a couple of things.
Snyder _slavishly_ recreated scenes from the comic book to film. To where, if you saw the film and then read the comic, you'd think the comic was the official movie adaptation, but it was the other way around.
I really love the dr. Manhattan origin scene, because in the graphic novel that is how he experiences time, kinda reflecting on the moment as is it were a distant memory but at the same time experiencing it for the first time while being able to know his future as well but being unable to change things because he already views it as being to late to try change anything

2 hours? What? The director's cut is 3 hours long, you guys missed about an hour of the actual movie. I'm not even mentioning the ultimate cut which is 3.5...
This is my ABSOLUTE favorite movie! And the graphic novel blew my mind when I read it! Rorschach has my heart for sure... His dialogue in both graphic novel and movie still stick with me every day... :( And when Doctor Manhattan explains how times feels for him..... aw man.... wow. Watchmen was like a paradigm shift for me.
watchmen directors cut is probably my 3rd favorite superhero movie of all time. the part where ozymandias explains how the facial reactions of dr manhattan are basically an open book for him to read... that same thing happened to him in reverse. he ALMOST made himself look suspicious when he had an extremely brief reaction on his face as dr manhattan tells him that he cant see his own future anymore (that was in the works over a long time to make this plan work at all) but manhatten misread his reaction for something else and was simply glad that he noticed it at all instead of connecting the problem to ozymandias. imagine the pressure on you when you try to fool a godlike person. even he cracked for a moment for sheer joy.
It's weird how this movie can seem underrated, but I've never met someone in real life who didn't love it. I remember systematically getting all my friends to watch it with me back in the day
*A bit of history before the movie starts:* Sometime before the Vitenam war, all vigilantes were given a choice(Keen act by Nixon) to either retire, work for the government or publicly reveal their secret identity. Most of the Minutemen(1940s suited up cops) retired except Hollis Mason aka Nite Owl 1 (wrote a book and revealed his secret identity). Dr. Manhattan, Silk Spectre 2 (Laurie), Comedian chose to work for the government (secret identities intact). Veidt used his watchmen persona to start a company (hence publicly revealing his identity). Nite Owl 2(Daniel) retired. Rorschach refused and stayed a vigilante (hence was on FBI's most wanted list). *About the heros in general:* None of the heroes except Dr. Manhattan have any powers whatsoever. They are normal human beings with some training with masks, outfits and gadgets. They seem to be extra strong but that's just for cinematic purposes I guess. *About Dr. Manhattan:* Dr. Manhattan can bend space-time. So he can bend matter to his will and he sees all of time simultaneously. Like he says he felt fear for the last time but actually he is being ripped apart all the time and he feels all of that all the time. He doesn't have to go back in time per se because he is living that instant right now. According to the comics, he can see alternate realities like the cat in the Schrodinger's box. For instance, before the watchmen first meet(where comedian burns the map and all) the future didn't show a nuclear holocast and then he is paired up with Rorschach(decided through picking chits out of a box) to patrol, so he chooses to alter the outcome of the chit picking and changes it Laurie(hence they grow closer and make out on the roof during one of their patrolling nights). This is the universe where Manhattan's vision of the future is blocked by the temporal interference which the movie covers. ***SPOILERS*** . . . . . . . . . Difference between the Comic and Movie: Almost all of the scenes are shot to be the exact same as the comic. If you read the comic, it'll be very hard to not notice that. The most glaring difference is that in the Alan Moore comic, Veidt drops a gargantuan alien squid on Manhattan and blames on an extraterrestrial attack, uniting the world and preventing nuclear holocaust. I am looking for all and any Batman/Superman references. Please comment if I got anything wrong or missed any clues.
The HBO Max Watchmen mini series it’s incredible too, y’all should watch it now since it’s a sequel to the comics and this movie are the events of the comics, only the final events were different. (It’s not a spoiler, it’s important if you want to continue to the miniseries) Snyder and co-writers David Hayter and Alex Tse stuck pretty close to the source material for the film except for a pretty bold change to the ending. Snyder's Adrien Veidt essentially frames Doctor Manhattan, leveling several major cities with a weapon that leaves behind the same energy signature as the big blue guy. Moore and Gibbons also leveled cities, but they did so with a massive squid-creature from another dimension...sort of. In the comics, Veidt assembles a crew of scientists and artists in a remote location, telling them he's making a monster movie. They create a Godzilla-sized monstrosity, Veidt kills the crew to guarantee their silence, and then he drops the tentacled beast now temporarily alive thanks to Veidt's potent energy source on top of New York City, where it causes utter mayhem and a death toll in the hundreds of thousands. The result is the same, with the world's political powers tamping down war talks immediately to focus on the extraterrestrial and/or interdimensional threat that has clearly set its many eyes on Earth. The series won like 11 emmys, tons of others nomination and awards. Highly recommended. Another good reacting, love this channel.
Alan Moore wanted to make this story with actual, albeit not-that-famous, DC characters which were originally from Charleston Comics before they were bought by DC back in the day, but DC didn't green-light the project unless he changed them to original characters because they thought the subject matter was too controversial and they didn't want to damage the established characters' images. So each character here has a pretty straightforward "real" equivalent. Nite Owl I and II are based on Blue Beetle I and II, for instance. Dr. Manhattan on Captain Atom, the Comedian on the Peacemaker (John Cena played him in The Suicide Squad, recently) and Rorschach on The Question, and so on. They're not exactly like the characters that inspired them because they're modified to fit this story's tone by exaggerating some of their character traits and adding some stuff that may or may not be based on other well-know DC superheroes, as is the case with Silk Spectre I & II, whom seem to be mainly based on Nightshade but also include elements from Black Canary I & II. The irony is that despite DC's misgivings, Watchmen was one of the first comic book stories to be recognized as a superior work of art within the medium by both comics fans and non-comics fans, so that the term "graphic novel" started to be used to refer to this kind of thing in order to differentiate it from the regular "trashy" and "non-literary" comic books that were perceived as being for kids and lacking legit artistic merit.
This is incredibly underrated. I think its Snyders best film. I saw this in theaters opening night. It was very derisive, there were audible boos from people. I was blown away so much I went out the next day and bought the novel.
this movie is great but i highly recommend watching the hbo show. it’s a fantastic sequel that really expands upon the story and characters! please watch!!
This film is amazingly faithful to the book...the comic was practically a storyboard for the film. I've never seen a greater effort made to be true to the source material. Even the casting was clearly done with an eye towards making the characters look the way they were drawn. There's really only one change of note, but it essentially gets you to the same conclusion in fewer steps, and I've got no issue with it at all. You should absolutely give it a read, though. The amount of detail in the book is astounding. It was the only graphic novel to make Time Magazine's list of 100 greatest books of the 20th century.
You guys should follow up with the Watchmen HBO series knowing that instead of a nuclear explosion at the end here, it was a multidimensional squid,. Makes for more complete watch for those wanting more in the Watchmen universe.
That was a really good reaction to the movie! Loved to see your wtf moments, haha. Reminded me of going to the theater and be completely blown away by everything. The story, the visuals, the cast, the production, the vfx, the music, everything. I knew I was watching a masterpiece. After reading the graphic novel it only made me appreciate the movie even more. All the details and how it got adapted.
I read this 5 years ago, hands down best comic story ever. That weekend I bought the directors cut with low expectations. How could they fit that dense story into a single movie? I knew nothing of its reception aside from it wasn't a huge box office hit. It was remarkable how well it was adapted. I was blown away. Great reaction
I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH!!!!!! The speech that Dr. Manhattan gives to Laurie on Mars about her being a miracle is so great. The moral ambiguity and philosophical dilemmas are so intriguing. The direction, color grading, lighting, music, and general aesthetic of it all is so appealing. I just love it!
Alan Moore approved of the script and the artist approved of the film itself. "Fans" of the comics who complain about the film didn't get the comic. You should have watched the Director´s Cut of the film though. (Or the Ultimate Cut but is a bit too much as Snyder admits.)
Great reaction guys! Thank you! Despite what a lot of purists say, I think the movie kept the heart of the story. It even improves the ending in my opinion. The places it fails a bit are in setting the scene. A lot of the audience didn't realize that only Manhattan actually had powers. Even Ozymandias was just supposed to be the pinnacle of human performance, but still within reach of humanity. If you liked this, you should check out the HBO series as well. It's outstanding, but know that it is truer to the ending of the novel, so try not to get confused if it mentions things that happened differently than this movie.
Theres an HBO Limited series called Watchmen that is a sequel to the main story. It is a follow up to the book more than it is the film because, as far as im aware having never read it, it acknowledges details in the book not included in the film but it is a really fantastic series that deals with some serious issues and I would strongly recommend it! It's simply fantastic!!
Dr. Manhattan`s superpower is controlling the matter. Transporting particles (teleporting), recombining particles (making material object literally out of the air), dispersing particles (disintegration of the objects). He is, actually, a god.
I haven't read Doomsday Clock but it seems to me technically he has no power since he makes no choices. Jon Osterman is blown up and then this glowing being with his memories just appears and is then puppeteered by basically spacetime itself.
I absolutely loved this film when I first saw it on IMAX. I got literal vertigo when the Comedian's body fell out of his window. But the funniest reaction with a live audience was when Dr Manhattan showed up naked, and the women cheered, and the guys complained. 🤣🤣🤣
Guy on the right, thank you for staying silent, and letting the first time watchers form their opinions independently. You're the best type of reactor.
Watchmen is so much more than an action or superhero story. It's like if what the movie Forrest Gump screwed up were done by someone with balls and a soul. The spirit of the late 20th century distilled into a superhero/fantasy genre. Snyder really succeeds at channeling that.
The graphic novel is a masterpiece that everyone should read, comic book enthusiasts and everyone else alike, the movie is a good interpretation of the story done well.
I wish this movie was released now rather than it was back in 2009 when Superhero movies started to become mainstream. I genuinely believe it would’ve been much more appreciated in genre that’s becoming oversaturated.
You guys should definitely watch the Watchmen TV show next, it's more a continuation of the book than a continuation of the movie. This movie is a good primer for the show too, you just need to know about the squid.
They were talking about Ronald Reagan running for President at the end in the late 80's and they showed the explosion sites still in rough shape. So not so much time had passed. Regarding Reagan, the reason the newspaper manager/supervisor was in disbelief of him running, was because he was a well-known movie actor in real life. But those patriotic roles he played in his early days did help him become the President for almost the entire decade.
The movie (specially the director's cut) is a great adaptation of the graphic novel. Of course, nothing beats the source material. But it's still a great adaptation and the ending is arguably better and less convoluted than the novel's.
Yeah I saw this movie when I was a 19 year old college student back in 2009 during it's release night. It honestly blew me away, I didn't think it was going to be that good. I had heard of the graphic novel but never read it until after the film, since then I became a fan as well of director Zack Snyder (also 2013's Man of Steel amazingly good). Very underrated movie that unfortunately didn't get a lot of attention or praise until much after it's initial release. Still one of my favorite sci-fi/comic book films to date.
The comic series doomsday clock takes place right after rorshacks journal is published and everyone finds out the truth. Shit really goes down in that comic. I hope someone in the future adapts it In film, you see doctor manhattan in the justice league universe.
Doomsday Clock is a comic series (released just recently) involving the Watchmen characters meeting the Justice League and the rest of the DC universe. Starts with Batman and Flash discovering the smiley face button ! Later, Superman facing Dr. Manhattan.
It wasn't on the "Batman" universe but it had a Batman poster on the beginning, that's on the comic book as well. Anyway; it wasn't but 'it is' now that is a property of DC Comics and it was integrated recently to the main universe, on Doomsday Clock and DC Rebirth. Superman fought against Dr. Manhattan in it. The music was a topic of debate for the so-called fans, but most tracks are actually on the panels, with the lyrics somewhere around a radio or a window.
NiteOwl is a derivation of an existing comic character called Blue Beetle, of which there are multiple versions. Hollis Mason represents Dan Garret, the golden age Blue Beetle who was an actual comic from the 40s, and Dan represents Ted Kord who was the Blue Beetle from the late 60s through the early 2000s.
My first viewing was the Ultimate cut of Watchmen, I really liked how it blended the comic book stories of the Black Freighter into the movie, felt so unique, and similar to how they did it in the comic.
Adapting watchmen was deemed impossible bcoz the novel had 13 issues and so much material. Also the ending was completely different where instead of a bomb. It was a trans dimensional Octopus monster made by veidt
Yes. In the graphic novel, Adrian's plan was to fool the world into thinking it was being invaded by interdimensional aliens to force the U.S. and Russia to unite in peace against the supposed threat, thus averting nuclear war. Adrian bioengineers a giant squid-like creature and teleports it into the middle of Manhattan, which results in millions of deaths. While it is a shocking plan, the squid creature was deemed so bizarre that Snyder and the scriptwriter felt that they needed to change the creature into an energy device Adrian uses to frame Dr. Manhattan for the destruction. So even though the plan is different in the movie, Adrian's goals are ultimately the same while managing to tie Dr. Manhattan to the story better than the novel does. John realizes that he has to keep Adrian's secret and leave Earth so the world will remain united against him, forever fearful that he may someday return to further smite them like an angry blue god.
Having seen this movie and read the graphic novel, This movie is the most accurate superhero comic to movie adaptation that exists. Like frame by frame, beat by beat, the movie follows the graphic novel like 99% of the way, which is more than what you can say about other superhero movies based on comics.
Crank file = Crazy File Most jornals and book companies have the crazy email/letters Archive and other stuff they receive... About the bad reception of the Movie, was bc of like aways the so call "critcs" that said was too dark/complex for the regular ppl and swayd the opinion of the public about the movie, but for those who were fans of watchman and DC is was one of the best Superhero movies, bc Snyder really know how to make feel like a graphic novel and use the "dark/realistic" theme that DC have on some of the stories.
Subbed ! Congrats on reaction to WATCHMEN - I've seen all the Marvel and DC movies but this remains my favorite superhero movie - I think the events and dark tone are more like what it would actually be like if there were superheroes in real life - not all sunshine and roses. I think one of the most amazing things about this movie is that it can actually make you empathize with the Comedian even though he's a truly horrible person. One cool thing is at: 3:33 Night-Owl 1 is saving Bruce Wayne's parents - therefore BATMAN will never exist because his parents were never killed by a criminal and drive him to become BATMAN. (There's even BATMAN posters on the wall behind the action.) I always figured if I were a superhero I'd probably be the moth-guy who flips out and gets dragged off to a padded room. :D
That’s cool. I like all the little details like that. I think this tone is perfect for someone like Zack Snyder. Tbh I wish he was more involved in the series
How can there be "....BATMAN posters on the wall " if Batman was never created because of the exact event showing those posters? Whoever put that in screwed up big time. Batman was created from a fear of bats not from following a movie/book/poster character.
Another fun thing they did was Rorschach speaks very simple and childlike around people he doesn't care about, but only around Daniel and in his journal does he speak elegantly and cohesively.
Rorschach is my favorite character in this movie. In fact, one of my most favorite superhero in all DC+Marvel universe. And I haven't move on from his death 😭
The fact that you think Rorschach is a hero and that you came out the movie liking him instead of despising him shows how terrible the movie is and how little Zack Snyder understands the characters he adapts.
Should we do more Snyder?? 300 maybe? Also, sorry for the beginning, that song gave me a lot of trouble with copyright so it had to be edited a little weird.

2 hours?
And when Doctor Manhattan explains how times feels for him..... aw man.... wow.
Watchmen was like a paradigm shift for me.
Way to miss the message entirely, Rorschach is not a character you're supposed to admire, he's a sociopathic, insane murderer
@@IfsoFactso I never said I admire him. I said he has my heart. I feel for him. I agree with him on most things he says...
I saw this in the movie theatre when it came out in 2009. I adore it. It's because of the movie that I read the graphic novel.
300 is more action packed and another graphic novel adaptation you should watch it.
THIS IS SPARTA!!!
#RestoreTheSnyderverse
The aesthetic and filmmaking artistry of this movie is top tier.
100% agreed. Every single shot feels personal and carefully composed
watchmen directors cut is probably my 3rd favorite superhero movie of all time. the part where ozymandias explains how the facial reactions of dr manhattan are basically an open book for him to read... that same thing happened to him in reverse. he ALMOST made himself look suspicious when he had an extremely brief reaction on his face as dr manhattan tells him that he cant see his own future anymore (that was in the works over a long time to make this plan work at all) but manhatten misread his reaction for something else and was simply glad that he noticed it at all instead of connecting the problem to ozymandias. imagine the pressure on you when you try to fool a godlike person. even he cracked for a moment for sheer joy.
Yeah that would be insane...I’ll have to check it out at some point
It's weird how this movie can seem underrated, but I've never met someone in real life who didn't love it. I remember systematically getting all my friends to watch it with me back in the day
A lot of the shots are almost ripped right out of the graphic novel. Really amazing..
After watching the director's cut I loved it even more.
Watchmen's opening sequence is probably one of my favorites. Visual storytelling basically giving you the context of this stand-alone universe.
*A bit of history before the movie starts:*
Sometime before the Vitenam war, all vigilantes were given a choice(Keen act by Nixon) to either retire, work for the government or publicly reveal their secret identity.
*About the heros in general:*
None of the heroes except Dr. Manhattan have any powers whatsoever. They are normal human beings with some training with masks, outfits and gadgets. They seem to be extra strong but that's just for cinematic purposes I guess.
*About Dr. Manhattan:*
Dr.

Difference between the Comic and Movie:
Almost all of the scenes are shot to be the exact same as the comic.
Rorschach fighting the policemen reminds me of Batman fighting Superman's army during the Knightmare scene.
I've always been a massive fan of Snyder's filmography. It's always the most 'what the fuck' kinda movie.
Watchmen actually IS in the DC universe which is pretty cool
This is incredibly underrated. I think its Snyders best film. I saw this in theaters opening night. It was very derisive, there were audible boos from people. I was blown away so much I went out the next day and bought the novel.
this movie is great but i highly recommend watching the hbo show. it’s a fantastic sequel that really expands upon the story and characters! please watch!!
lmao it's terrible
The show sucks
Great show!
If you liked this, watch the “Watchmen” TV show which takes place years and years after the graphic novel that the movie is based on.
And it’s AMAZING
_Yes please!_ 🙌🏼
Loving these Zack Snyder reactions! My 2nd favorite director
Agreed.
One of my favorite movies of all time.
"Hey Dr. Manhattan what are your powers"
*Dr. Manhattan "Yes"
All these cool shots were basically lifted from the graphic novel.
That scene gives me chills every time I watch it. "And so...I was wrong."
Alan Moore approved of the script and the artist approved of the film itself. "Fans" of the comics who complain about the film didn't get the comic. You should have watched the Director´s Cut of the film though. (Or the Ultimate Cut but is a bit too much as Snyder admits.)
From what I've seen Moore hated it and anything to do with the studios or DC.
You can say the movie is good without lying about Moore's opinions on the matter.
Y’all should watch the hbo watchmen series. It takes place 20 years after this.
I agree...I actually think the ending of the film is more elegant and makes Jon's character even more important.
Opening credits are still unmatched. God tier
Are you guys planning on watching the HBO Limited TV show? It takes place after the novel
Zack Snyder bringing us hits ahead of their time!
Dr Manhattan was played by flash’s father in the Snyder cut
And the comedian played batman's father aka Thomas Wayne in BvS
Guy on the right, thank you for staying silent, and letting the first time watchers form their opinions independently. You're the best type of reactor.
Love this movie (in all its cuts) I’m glad this work of art (of a movie) is getting discovered and appreciated by new a audience.
The ultimate cut of the movie touches even more on the philosophical part with added animated story and stuffs!
Awesome stuff guys, Shazam and aquaman are great
Great reaction guys keep it up!! It would be great seeing you guys reacting to Aquaman
Watchmen is so much more than an action or superhero story. It's like if what the movie Forrest Gump screwed up were done by someone with balls and a soul. The spirit of the late 20th century distilled into a superhero/fantasy genre. Snyder really succeeds at channeling that.
The graphic novel is a masterpiece that everyone should read, comic book enthusiasts and everyone else alike, the movie is a good interpretation of the story done well.
this has nothing to do with the movie ... but the guy with glasses is cute haha
I mean, they all are tbh 👀
;)
I wish this movie was released now rather than it was back in 2009 when Superhero movies started to become mainstream. I genuinely believe it would’ve been much more appreciated in genre that’s becoming oversaturated.
The follow-up series on HBO was on point as a sequel to this story. I highly recommend it
Love your review guys! Also the Justice League one!
Thanks for the love bro!!
im here for big bro Nick haha
You guys should definitely watch the Watchmen TV show next, it's more a continuation of the book than a continuation of the movie. This movie is a good primer for the show too, you just need to know about the squid.
Yesss plsss do more of DC animated movies those are so underrated.
The new 52 continuity was Okay at best tbf..
His masked design is a moving Rorchach test used in psychiatric evaluations... His name Rorchach tho so Its obvious
You should watch the limited watchmen series on HBO. Its equally amazing and twisted
Y'all should watch "Bad Times at the EL ROYAL" It's a very underrated movie too! and it's so good!!
But those patriotic roles he played in his early days did help him become the President for almost the entire decade.
this movie was so ahead of its time.
Ah, a most important question: Who's watching the man who's watching the men who're watching Watchmen?
I saw it in the theatre when it first came out and I cried when Rorschach was murdered, but I loved that he got the last laugh!
Excelente!!! The best DC superhero movie ever. Braaavooo!!
Manhattan.
Whoa. That sounds cool.
I've read the graphic novel.
The movie is waaaaay grander than the novel. Best improvement ever.
This is the most ridiculous comment I've ever read. The graphic novel is a masterpiece, and heads and tails better than this mediocre movie.
@@theshadowfax239 The graffic novel is amazing, right up until the squid. The way they changed the ending improves the story.
I recommend you kids READ the (1986) Alan Moore Watchmen graphic novel instead.
The Ultimate Cut of this film is a Flawless Masterpiece! One of the best films of all time in my opinion.
I hope this means y'all will watch the HBO series of Watchmen. It's an amazing show
Having seen this movie and read the graphic novel,
This movie is the most accurate superhero comic to movie adaptation that exists.
Like frame by frame, beat by beat, the movie follows the graphic novel like 99% of the way, which is more than what you can say about other superhero movies based on comics.
Crank file = Crazy File
Most jornals and book companies have the crazy email/letters Archive and other stuff they receive...
One cool thing is at:
3:33
Night-Owl 1 is saving Bruce Wayne's parents - therefore BATMAN will never exist because his parents were never killed by a criminal and drive him to become BATMAN. (There's even BATMAN posters on the wall behind the action.)
I always figured if I were a superhero I'd probably be the moth-guy who flips out and gets dragged off to a padded room.
Guys, if you loved Watchmen movie, you should watch the tv show, it's insane
Rorschach is my favorite character in this movie. In fact, one of my most favorite superhero in all DC+Marvel universe. And I haven't move on from his death 😭
I couldn’t believe he died
@@whitenoisereacts I still living in my universe where he alive and fighting crimes. 🥲🥲🥲🥲
Never compromise.
The fact that you think Rorschach is a hero and that you came out the movie liking him instead of despising him shows how terrible the movie is and how little Zack Snyder understands the characters he adapts.
The creator of the graphic novel approved Zacks script...so he must have at least thought the spirit of the film was the same
