"What's his name?"
"Ozymandias."
"No, it was something weird."

@@Flantomas Jeremy Irons is Ozymandias in the 2019 Watchmen TV miniseries. This one from the 2009 movie is Matthew Goode.

"I don't get it." "I don't understand"
*proceeds to predict some of the biggest plot twists in the movie perfectly*
If this is what she does when she doesn't understand a movie, I'd hate to see her with a movie she does understand...there'd be no point to her watching it, she'd be able to nail the entire plot.
She figured Rorschach's identity and who is the bad guy. That is beyond impressive!
Our girl’s wicked smaat!
@@stvbrsn ahhh you must be from southie 😂
@@mikedavis1476 nah, just saw Good Will Hunting a couple too many times. Cheers!
@@stvbrsn Fantastic reference. ‘How ya like me now!?’
The film does make it more guessable who Rorschach is. It gives a lot more focus to the red hair guy whenever he shows up, while he is more often just in the background with other recurring characters in the comic. Plus the comic gives much more focus to just regular people on the street, like the newstand guy, or the kid with the pirate comics, or the lesbian couple, so he doesn't stand out as much from them.
Rorschach's mask (which he refers to as his "face") consisted of a specialized fabric, one that was actually two layers of fabric with viscous black and white fluids trapped between them. The fluids remained in constant motion, being affected by heat and pressure, however, the black and white colors never combined to form gray. The patterns formed by the fluids also maintained a consistent symmetrical pattern down the mid-line of whatever shape the fabric had been formed into.
Kovacs first discovered the fabric when he worked for a dressmaker. The fabric was originally made into a woman's dress and the marketing of such a product would be linked to Dr. Manhattan. The product's first customer was a woman named Kitty Genovese, who was unhappy with the dress, calling it "ugly" and refused to buy it. Kovacs thought differently however, and took possession of the fabric for himself, saying it was "very beautiful." At home he used heated instruments to shape the fabric into a full head covering, a face he "could look at in the mirror."
(Kitty Genovese was the woman who was murdered in NY and none of the residents who heard the screams helped or even called the police. True story.)
It was also implied that the presence of Dr. Manhattan and his advances made in science were what made this particular weird morphy (yet obviously see-thru from one side) fabric to be possible, IIRC.
@@grife3000 There were a lot of details in that graphic novel. I miss that multi-panel psychic slaughter from the comic but the way the movie rewrote that section made more sense, even if it was less fantastical.
The story you are telling about the murder of Kitty Genovese is inaccurate, based on an irresponsible article published by the New York Times two weeks after the murder. The number of supposed bystanders was inflated, and the fact that at least one person called the cops was overlooked or ignored.
Feel free to check around online, since RUclips won't let us link to articles or anything. I was pretty irritated to find out about the hyperbole myself.
@@grife3000 wasnt it some alien chemicals found that they used to make the dress
@@corvus1970 yes that story has been around for a while and been disproved many times. Still serves as an excellent lesson tho in failing to do the right thing
One of the best comic book adaptation of all time. Every scene is like ripped out of the comics!
yeah even the giant octupus thing. oh wait
@@derekmikel6562 to be fair this new twist is better because we are a couple decades over the 80s idea of what scary was.
@@fjparasite1172 yeah, I understand why. Just poking fun at the comment, lol. Nothing hostile
Yeah such a great adaptation that Alan Moore never even wanted his name to associated with the movie
@@yethaarthpall665 Moore never wanted his name associated with any adaptions, even something as benign and as faithful as the motion comic.(!)
(although the motion comic credited him anyway)
The guy in the hat had some good subtle jokes
i cant belive she didnt get the joke of the depressed clown its one of my fav parts, as an introvert i understand im alone alot when im around people i just smile but i still feel alone
Originally Alan Moore (the writer of the graphic novel) wanted to use established characters that were originally in Charlton Comics (a small publisher that DC had just purchased in the early '80s). So Dr. Manhattan was originally going to be Captain Atom, Nite Owl was going to be the Blue Beetle, Rorschach was going to be The Question, and The Comedian was going to be Peacemaker (yep, the character that John Cena played in The Suicide Squad). DC higher ups had plans for some of these characters so they told Moore he couldn't use them...
I would say that the role of the Comedian is what got Jeffery Dean Morgan the role of Negan on The Walking Dead.
You said “Real fucking hero” at the end of the Rape scene and I was like……”No not really, because as a hero you either die young or live long enough to see yourself become the Villan.”
For constantly saying "I don't get it" she sure picks up a lot more than many of the people who do.
She's seeing the forest as a whole, and not loosing the big picture for the individual trees.
Have you read Vagabond by any chance?
Nah, she don't get it.
Absolutely love this film. Shame a lot of other folks crapped on it from a great height.
"Never compromise. Even in the face of armageddon."
💪💪😎
I like the fact that at the very beginning of the movie that the original Night Owl saves the Waynes from a mugger thus making sure that Batman doesn’t exist in this world.
I'm a shut-in on disability and had no idea these movie reaction videos existed until 3 months ago. You guys are welcome friends. Except when black t-shirt woman reacts like a hostage. I don't know if you guys have seen the 2 movies I'd like you to react to, but they the wildest responses from the theater audiences I've ever seen. I mean that in a good way. Speaking strictly as to the strength of the reaction, it's like how you'd feel if you hired a nanny for your baby child and Casey Anthony showed up. The two films are THIS IS SPINAL TAP and THE USUAL SUSPECTS. One is a comedy and one isn't. I think. With one it's hard to tell. If you're laughing I guess it's a comedy. Please consider these two. I and a lot of people think they're classics.
Every hero has his own view of the world. Some black and white good vs evil. Some don't care as long as they fight. Some think too small scale to do ANY difference. Some are waaaay too powerful to care.
Dr. Manhattan is actually one of my favorite comic characters of all time and I have his hydrogen symbol tattooed on my forearm.
Watchmen is one of the greatest novels to ever come out
The bleeps coming out of this woman is amazing! She doesn’t find The Comedian amusing 😂😂😂😂😂
Kind of impressive she caught on to a few of the twists early on. Especially since she never read the book.
Yes! Watchmen! This is one of my favorite movies. I loved the graphic novel, I think the film is extremely underrated because it's so deep many people can't fully understand the lessons within it. I always feel like a kid on Christmas morning when I see someone post a Watchmen reaction!
6:10, I love Rorschach's narration throughout this movie, as you delve inside his mind to figure out what he's thinking.
Come on how is it possible that the guy has seen all those movies and the woman has never seen any of them??? Its fake, they are faking it.
@@tanelviil9149 Because couples aren't glued together 24/7 ? And what does that have to do with the original comment ?
He is clearly trying to imitate Batman, though.
@@trhansen3244 No, Rorschach is more like, "The Question" than Batman. Moore though did have to come up with new characters, since originally he wanted to use DC characters for his story. DC refused of course, since they felt his work would confuse readers and change people's perceptions of established DC heroes.
8:35 In the comic, it is explained that the fabric of Rorschach's mask is made from a material based on some of the discoveries of Dr. Manhattan. It is actually a few layers of cloth with a fluid in between them that reacts to temperature. It's a cloth that acts like a lava lamp.
The assassin WAS trying to kill Ozymandias, but he moves faster than his attacker can aim. Ozy intentionally used the other people in the room to shield his approach.
'Naked yoga in Mars'
'At least he looks good doing it'
The addition of showing the assassin beat the crap out of the Comedian in the beginning is one of the best additions the movie added. I remember reading the book and watching a motion comic before the movie came out and being absolutely shook when they opened with a full fight scene between the two. I was absolutely hooked immediately and when the Bob Dylan track came on after, I was like “this is going to be amazing.” And it was.
The giant squid being cut was sorta strange, as Bubastis the cat made absolutely no sense with that cut. His lynx was a dead give away of the villan’s plot staring you in the face the whole time. Still, a very good adaption.
"In Slow Motion probably" 😂
That was a like from me right there.
Rorschach's mask is made of a thermal-sensitive material developed by Veidt Industries, which reacts to small changes in the wearer's body-heat. As I recall, it is very a thin layer of white, sandwiching a middle layer of heat-motivated liquid under a transparent layer. It has been too long for me to remember whether ith is actually explained somewhere, or just some spitball I did with a friend after reading the graphic novel.
I disagree on 1 point. Won my fiance a stuffed Pikachu at the carnival and alls I got instead of lucky was walked out on for another guy. Holy shit.......I DID get lucky after all.
Watchmen is not for everyone, is based in a graphic novel, so expect some unusual stuff in this live film. Is very dark, controversial in some parts, but I like it because it stands out of the usual Comic Superhero films. It also predates the wave of realistic and introverted self critical shows like The Boys in TV.
"Monster Squad" for the upcoming Halloween season!!!
Seconded!
Yes! My favourite childhood film. Although I reckon mrs movies has probably watched it before.
I said it before and I’ll say it again, your wife is a great detective 🕵️♀️. Put her on the case boys, we getting this one solved!
Yep she is.
"The band with the X's over the eyes".... was she thinking Mushroomhead?
Fascinating how someone who doesn’t understand the movie and isn’t absorbed by it can easily spot the twists.
It’s like we’re all wearing “in story’ goggles and we miss things because were looking for the secret of course we not really looking, we don’t wanna work it out, we want to be fooled”
we want to be fooled”
The prestige.
Mrs movies seems to have an object view of things and resists all prejudice that the previous scenes set up for us.
You married a very smart one.
Congratulations to you both. You’re the coupe I aspire to be a part of one day.
I mean my own Mr or mrs movies. I’m not proposing a “you, me, Jimmy and the movies”
“She’s in Son in Law” Love it 😂 Probably not the one Carla Gugino would choose for the resumé
V was also the alien invasion show. V For Vendetta gets all the credit for having a V. Poor V is in the corner saying "Don't I mean anything anymore?".
Wow, the mrs. really is a great detective! =D =)
Please get the comic (graphic novel) and read it. It's a work of genius. Alan Moore didn't approve of this film (or any other of his works being made into movies). The ending is different in the comic but the rest of the film is spot on. There are comic panels that are in the movie exactly as they were drawn. Dave Gibbons is an amazing artist.
These characters are changed from what Alan Moore originally wanted to do. The comic characters from Charlton Comics (later bought by DC) were changed because DC decided to use the characters in different ways. I'll list the Watchmen version followed by the original character.
Nite-Owl (Blue Beetle)
Dr. Manhattan (Captain Atom)
Rorschach (The Question)
Ozymandias (Peter Cannon: Thunderbolt)
Silk Spectre (Nightshade)
The Comedian (Peacemaker)
Dr. Manhattan was Russell Hammond in Almost Famous, I think.
For Nixon being always reelected, the point is that, having people with super powers working for them, the American government won the Vietnam war and the country never had to reevaluate its place in the world scenery and its values at all. Without that, the 1950's All-American self image and ultra conservatism never quite faded out.
17:45 is that the guy who played the 80s character max headroom?
Just another classic example of how ahead of it's time this film was
Batman is my favorite comic book hero, and I absolutely love the dark knight trilogy - but Watchmen has to be my most favorite stand alone comic book movie, with Rorschach being my second favorite comic book hero! So excited for you guys to watch this!!
Rorschach is supposed to be hated. He is very biased. Too violent. Too small scale. Hates people that aren't "nice".
@@fjparasite1172 he is my favorite precisely because of the juxtaposition he poses against ourselves. He is our carnal rage, that which we all at one point or another wish to become to enact our own version of justice and retribution. I enjoy him as a character, but that by no means indicates I "look up" to him as an individual to aspire to be. As all characters, he is a question we all ask ourselves; what am I willing to do to get justice?
@@BadassRaiden a very deep message i love is how he used the mask for so long that he's no longer Walter that uses the Rorschach mask but Rorschach with his Walter mask. And he asks why other heroes have personality disorders. XD
@@BadassRaiden As I remember from the graphic novel, he saw a little girl murdered or something and that was when the person he was died and he became only Rorschach.
It takes 5 separate murders
at different times to become a serial killer.
5 at 1 time can be labeled a mass murder.
Tachyons... are any form of energy that travel faster than light. Any form of energy that travels any faster than C or multiple times the rate of C
She is so smart! Figured out the Sinai pill the shooter and Rorschach!
the bit in the opening credit with the flower in the rifle , is a reference to the kent state massacre
"There's already a band" I'm dead!
That was awesome! stop slouching...not you. 🤣 Much love to you two! 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it
17:22 The Comedian (Blake) is right, The American Dream did come true, however, it also came true in our reality as well!
love this movie and love that you're doing a 2 part reaction!
One of my favorite takes on superheroes!
V for Vendetta and Watchmen were written by the same author, so it is likely that one of the alleyway goons was wearing a V for Vendetta shirt.
Also swamp thing and from hell and league of extraordinary gentlemen
I have to admit, she figured out who Rorschach was and that Ozzy was the villian before I did.
This movie had the best trailer of all time.
That band with the marshmallow heads lol
Really enjoy that you two actually understand films. ❤
10:56 His eyes are up here.........Lolz
I love the watchmen intro.
27:25 LMFAO Now that's the funniest shit you've said
There are interesting parallels to the novel Atlas Shrugged.
You can actually make Rorschach's mask in real life, works quite well too.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan doing a great job playing another complicated character.
The cool weird thing about Dr Manhattan is he experices past present and future all at once and he can see he's future but he can't change it
@26:16 It's a Bohr Rutherford diagram, not from the periodic table. You're right about it being Hydrogen though.
The movie is way ahead of its time
The Cold War still the best theater for any movie...
Got my shirt & sticker and feel Super about it!!!!
This movie is incredible. I read the book a few years ago. It's rare to experience something and know that it's undoubtably the top achievement of its field.
The weekend I finished it I bought the director's cut curious to see how disappointed I would be. I was blown away. For such a dense story with so many moving parts Zack & his crew represented so much of it.
Thanks Steve for your excellent decision.
32:36 I really like the art you guys have, looks just like you two. Did you get someone to do it for you, or are either of you professional artists?
We had someone do it for us. We have some merch up now with the designs :)
@@YouMeTheMovies Awesome! Definitely need to check out your merch.
If I watched a film with my brother, and a murder happened in the opening scene he’d ask “who is the killer?”, even though it hadn’t been shown yet. I’m getting that vibe here!
I've been watching these foe a few months now and tonight was the first time I noticed Tom Servo and Crow in the background.
23:52- this is the third time in two different reactions Mrs said physics is confusing, but what you mean is: metaphysics is confusing. Physics is very simple, logical, empirical, and sensible. Metaphysics are conceptual ideas about “realities” that don’t exist. That’s why you think they are confusing: because they aren’t real but you think they are and reality is conflicting with imagination.
the Comedian is how Captain America would really be...
Hey, I just wanted to say I love your intro with the popcorn. 10/10
16:15 I love that she held the comedian accountable for that shit
I really enjoy this movie. It's not the typical superhero story. Based on a graphic novel, it really captures a nice balance between realism and surrealism. Another excellent film adapted from a graphic novel is Frank Miller's Sin City. It's definitely unique and absolutely worth watching 🤘
Mrs Movies you never fail to amaze me. I'm a big fan of this movie and I didn't work out that Ozymandias (Adrian Veidt) sent the hitman to himself or that the red haired man was Rorschach until way later. I guess this proves two things; 1)- you're way better at detectoring (I'm sure that's a word) than I am & 2)- it probably is better to eat popcorn while watching a film rather than knocking back a bottle of scotch. Who'd have thought eh? 🤪
Thanks for the Monty Python reference, very subtle which added to the fun :)
At 4:13 if you pause you can see that a superhero punches a mugger in front of the Gotham opera house that prevents Bruce ever needing to be Batman
Smurfed-ized is when you get splashback on your butt in a Porter party. Lol love your guys's content
Watchmen graphic novel is one of the best pieces of work of all time
Comic book: yeah he teleports them away. Some die of the shock/disorientation
Movie: Snyder said he vaporized them. Which i like better. Antagonizing a god just doesn't seem like the best of ideas. If the dude says "leave me alone" you might just want to stop being a twat and leave them alone.
Hello there. I would like to ask if this was some special edition, directors cut or something. Because in this part one alone there were 3 scenes completely new to me. Thanks for answer in advance
15:16- Hahaha, just look at him. Having a great time in Nam. Nobody even needs him there. Dr Manhattan's single handedly doing this. Comedian just likes fighting.
Great first part of watchmen guys, btw Ms. Movies the guy with the xx on his eyes is named Dead Eyes, just read the graphic novel about a month back.
Keep up the great work.
Man, i love yall!
4:20 No capes!
The route of Creationist theory states that a watch has a watchmaker or it does not exist, so for earth to exist it must have been made by a creator at some level. Manhattan is saying there's no watchmaker, there's no god.
Fantastic. An underrated flick to be sure. Since you've watched this, I'd have to say Sin City is required next...
11:17, "Guess you're done now." 🤣
4:55- He looks exactly like Javier Bardem, but yeah, it's Negan. Jeffrey Dean Morgan. 6:55- Pontypool. 10:24- Don't talk about Carla like that. She's perfect.
I don’t consider myself a Snyder fanboy, but he is my favorite superhero directors. I love dark and gritty superhero films. This is my favorite superhero film. I’ve never read the comic so that probably helps since people say it’s not a good adaptation of the comic. It’s kind of like Rob Zombie’s Halloween. It’s a bad adaptation of Halloween, but a great Rob Zombie movie. If it was exactly the same, just not Michael Myers, it would be liked way more. If this film wasn’t “Watchmen”, I think it would be perceived way better.
Love the channel! Keep up the good work!
rorschach actor is from my hometown. San Antonio
When he says “it’s true” and continues to say she’s aging more noticeably i think he’s agreeing that she’s aging but not that that’s why he’s become distant. He’s already lost touch with humanity,,, that’s why. He has no reason to stay because she (in his eyes) is little different to any other set of atoms.
Your voices are phenomenal
8:30...I think Nite Owl's lair is probably called the Owl Cave or is that already copyrighted...maybe Owl's Nest is better anyway. 🦉😊
Based on the graphic novel written by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons about a group of heroes during President Richard Nixon's 5th term
One of my favorite movies thanks and it took several viewings to understand it all also I’ve eaten aalot more microwave popcorn since I started watching your channel
