- Learn about how this sport became a worldwide phenomenon by understanding how it all began. Without the help of Dr. James Naismith, Basketball wouldn't exist as to what it now is today.
This video will explain who invented Basketball, the rules of the game, how the sport traveled to other gyms, and how it formed the NCAA, NBA, and FIBA.

I’m stuck watching this for gym class but it’s actually Interesting .. not one of my assets but it’s good to understand the game
Same here I had to do it for Google classroom
Same
Same lol
@@adrinamcgee540 same this is my English project
same bro
Fun fact: The reason Naismith put the basket at 10 feet was because the custodian had painted the area above the balcony. He asked Naismith not to put the basket any higher. Thus the height of the basket is 10 feet.
The janitor also gave Naismith peach baskets when he asked for boxes. We came close to this game being named "boxball".
1891-1892 - spring field college (YMCA) James Nate smith
1895- basketball was implemented in high school
1898 Kansas uni first basketball team
1939 - first ncaa championship
Thank you for teaching me the history of basketball!! I'm currently doing the basketball unit for my weight training class!!
Imagine if those balconies were higher? We would've never had dunking lol.
Perhaps not, but bc 10ft is the exact height of 1 story of a building, and bc they had to retrieve the ball from the basket initially, I think the basket height was always destined to be somewhere between 9-11ft (8-12ft at the very most.) And if you think about it, 10ft is still way too high for most ppl to dunk. Most the women in the WBNA can’t, I certainly can’t. But if the basket was 12 feet instead of 10, there would still be NBA players who could get up there. Michael Jordan for instance is 6’6” and has a 46” vertical (the highest in NBA history) which would put the top of his head at 10.5ft from the ground (there’s plenty of clips of him almost cracking his head on the rim, so no surprise there. Plus he had an abnormally long wing span even for NBA player. The average person’s wingspan is approx equal to their height. The average NBA guard’s is approx 3in longer than their height. Michael Jordan’s was 5in longer than his height (6’11” wingspan.) So his extended arm would certainly have been able to make up that foot and a half to dunk on 12ft. Although the average vertical of the average NBA player is 26in, so although dunks would still exist, they’d be much less common at 12ft…..I don’t know why I just wrote you an essay but, I guess cause I like basketball
I see the basketball of hall of fame almost every day because I live there
Great video brotha, keep up the good work and god bless you!
It's funny how the creator of the game of basketball has the worse record in school history lol
Guess he was a better inventor than a coach lol
Although we don't know the talent level of his team vs his opponents team
Alot of people aren't perfect, but some people are perfect for the job ;)
Ideas are ideas. You need the right necessities and people to execute those ideas.
Seriously funny. And now these schools here are forcing us to have good grades if we want to play professional basketball. 😢
Yeah, it’s weird how people with no athletic abilities somehow created a sport that’s primarily made out of top athletes and talent but yet, they are now the owners of most teams.
*Isn’t that interesting?* 🤔
Naismith is actually naisshchmidt/german, and david stern is actually shtern, now think a minute, about this collaboration
All he had to do was make it 9ft instead of 10ft and most of us would be able to dunk now!
I needed this for a essay
This video got better over time
Noticed the old basketball courts had no 3 point lines.
It only was implemented in 1979 (3's)...
Woah I never knew Portugal was one of the FIBA founders, being from Portugal pretty much means you will be hearing about football/soccer your whole life, it's a shame that basketball didn't become as popular as football/soccer did
Watching from Australia . Fantastic video, very well produced. My only criticism is that you assumed everyone knows your presidents, you didn't say any of their names.😊👍
Are you talking about Obama and Trump
Thanks!

As I learned, I thought Roosevelt wanted to continue football because he loved the sport of the game... So he was a front runner to continue it. I think other parts of government like Congress wanted football banned.
Thanks for the info :D
Thanks for watching. There is definitely more information coming!
This video has been History of Basketball. :)

Great video bruh

7:24 That's a short basketball game! A total time of 4 minutes!
its 25 mins with 5 mins rest at half time he misread it
Imagine if he was alive to see how his game was developed too today and the absolute units in the nba dunking
So I guess we're just going to ignore the fact that the Aztecs and the Mayans had the first form of basketball
White/Jew love to lied bout how they start everything
8:20 why thay all look like swimmers lol
empire
Never realised how much Teddy Roosevelt and James Naismith looked a like
Maybe they're.... the same :)
All a bunch of Freemasons and thieves. Basketball was already played by the original inhabitants of the Americas. He introduced it to whites in the same way Columbus discovered America
Ok sir
The inventor of the game was the only coach with a losing record. Damn
at least, he still showed sportsmanship 🙄
Crowder has me here
Me watching this for P.E.

I hate bad captioning - and this one is HORRIBLE.

If basketball was invented by a Canadian, why is there only one NBA team in Canada and so few Canadians playing in the NBA?
Because Canadians don’t care about basketball 💀 they only care about ice hockey
Well, look at hockey, another Canadian sport but most of the teams in the NHL are in the US
@@reisespeller5300 It wasn't invented in Canada. It was invented in America by a Candian man lol
He was just as much of a u.s.a citizen as he was a canadian citizen, you can not pick and choose where you are born, but he sure did pick to be buried in Kansas before he died.
I saw women basketball during 2003with the hoop and the net no board for upper coins...,same ball, same court
"Empire" "Battled" lol
why didn't he do that basket thing from the start by throwing in thinking about it going through the basket
BRUH MOMENTS!!
Process bruhh, but yah.
lore!?!??!?!?!!???
💛💙💚
What would he say about today's game?
He’d probably hate how black people are the majority demographic of the sport now bc that was pretty popular to do OR be completely enamored with how far the skill has evolved from his first couple versions and what rules were kept to keep his original idea intact while creating room to grow
@@RadicalTadpoles1000 they need to make a movie about that 😂

I appreciate this video but the voice behind it is annoyingly loud and it messed the video up for me and the ppl I was watching it with…
So hold up……..KU or KSU had first college team???You said both of them at different points in this video. Lots of mispronunskyashuns throughout an otherwise good video. Needs better editing and vocal coaching. Also, never a good idea to throw politics into a video like this. Half the country votes one way, and half votes the other. Solid B+

Yall really believe this man created basketball 😂
Yes he did. History says so. You just mad or shocked cuz he’s white. Kick in the head for ya huh? 😂
@@thechaz83i dont think thats what he means he prolly just thinks some form of the game existed beforehand
I only disliked cuz he called American Rugby football and called actual football soccer, such a terrible try to make rugby something important
