Fiba rules basketball is a million % better to watch I’d rather watch Australia nbl or euro league than nba regular season. If i have to watch another nba game of hybrid scrimmage 3 point shootout with no defence and pick and roll / iso offensive plays I might literally pop .Rules I’d change are 1. Refs Call step back travels 2. Shrink the court size 3. Bring back body/hand checking and get rid of the no impeding progress rule 4. Reduce 3 point arc , the extra distance actually makes 3s easier because most shots are virtually uncontested and the defence can never close the gap off a penetrate and pass. 5. Separate the stats for 3s and 2s , so that the 3point % doesn’t reduce the 2 point %. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY MAKE THE NBA ALL STAR GAME A 100% FULL TILT MAXIMUM EFFORT GAME NOT AN MICKEY MOUSE EXHIBITION. Can you imagine the quality of basketball of the the 24 best players on earth going at it max effort for glory and bragging rights and the winning conference decides home court advantage in the nba finals
I’m 90s kid and with the rise of Curry’s Warriors, NBA - doesn’t exist for me anymore. Most amazing thing in basketball for me is post game and You can’t see that a lot nowdays.
Americans are too arrogant to adopt European rules. they even call their game (90% played by hand) a Football. but our original, real football they call Soccer no, guys.... you ar suckker. we play Football since America wasn't discovered jet.
@@uowebfoot “golden age” is subjective in terms of viewership and entertainment value the nba has never been better. Even in terms of skill it’s the most skilled era ever
@@sugarnads Yeah but illegal defense was a convoluted mess to both officiate and just explaining the rule would require a video in of itself. But traveling, carrying, and moving screens are a nuisance.
Carried ball, traveling, disastrous defense. With the European rules on traveling, players like James or Harden would not even score 50% of the scored points. Traveling is their greatest asset and they do it every time. Of course, there is also Morant, Westbrook and many others. Defense - does not exist. Especially on extra stars. Why? Because for the NBA, as a company, a LeBron dunk poster is much more profitable than some defense. Jerseys, TV rights contracts, popcorn, sandwiches, tickets... In the USA, basketball is exclusively a job, in Europe it is a sport, a family, a life. In Europe, it is unthinkable that fans, wearing the jerseys of rivals, sit next to each other. Often entire cities are divided by fan affiliation. The NBA is just entertainment, as is the understanding of all other sports in the USA. Therefore, in order to raise the level of entertainment, players, referees, in general the entire NBA organization, ignores the basic rules of basketball. Carrying, traveling, flopping, ridiculous defense. And Europe has superstars. I remind you, Luka, Joker, Janis, Dirk, Gober... they are all European players. But, like everyone else in Europe, they followed the rules. Because, in Europe, basketball is bigger than money. In the NBA, money is the only thing that matters. Basketball is just a tool to get there. Following the rules or not.
Maybe don't jump from pump fakes? What you meant to say is you don't want to reward players who use their skills to separate themselves from defenders.
I like everything you said, as a ref myself I cannot even watch the NBA anymore. I wouldn’t call it basketball anymore, it’s a form of entertainment and money maker.
That’s what it is . “SPORTS Entertainment” just like the WWE && also the higher ups choses the Star Players . Before every live game they announce that it’s sports entertainment also so if you try to Sue in court like multiple people did you would lose because they will admit that the league chooses who wins & loses.
@@Telopead exactly it’s a reality Show with the best athletic actor’s in the world. The commentators read scripts just like in the WWE, if you pay attention they sometimes tell you what’s going to happen before it happens.
1. Call carries 2. Call travelling (only 2 extra steps after your last dribble) 3. don't call fouls when the offensive player initiate the contact (that applies to jumping in defenders & the swing motion..which is the worst of them all) 4. Remove the zone 5. Remove the defensive 3-second 6. Bring back partial hand-check
#3 is the biggest one for me *by far* ! It's such bullshit that a player like James Harden is called "crafty" for manufacturing fake fouls and going to the line for 20+ points per game. This isn't basketball, it's dog shit !
@@bozo5632make slam dunks worth 3 points, deduct a point for every missed free throw, games can end on a tie or go to overtime if it's the NBA finals or a tournament.
I only watch a game every other week or so, but every single game in every single quarter there's at least 1 weak-ass call that I know would never be called in the 2000's. They need to change the rules to let defenders actually play defense without having to be afraid of incidental contact while the ball is in the air.
Foul baiting by itself is ok, the criteria of what counts as a foul is dumb. They can go all nfl one play with no calls, and then get called for breathing on another player the next play.
Offence fakes a shot, defense jumps and isn't going to hit the offensive player, but the offensive player jumps diagonally into the defensive player and takes a shot. In my eyes, it should be an offensive foul. Defensive player wasn't going to harm himself of the offensive player, but the offensive player risks injuring both players. The whole charging thing bothers me too.
They HAVE to start calling travel carry and the illegal screens because it's just too obvious that they're giving the offense an even bigger advantage over the defense and it would slow down the game enough to get scoring down to reasonable levels
@@PlaySA Because this lack of defense makes the gaems less tense and unappealin, and puts FAR too much efforr on just shooting, might as well ditch the second basket and just make them throw free shots the entire game
@@peenhead9938 Totally agree that it's not very entertaining. And you are also right that overall it's not effective. That being said nine teams this regular season actually had a higher points per three point attempt than points per two point attempts. The biggest impact being the Suns where they would score 104 points per 100 2PA, but 112 from 100 3PA. So about a third of the league were actually more point efficient shooting threes instead of twos. Still leaving two thirds who wasn't. Overall the league average was 109,6 p/100 2pa while only 108,2 p/100 3pa. So you are right. On a somewhat unrelated note it's worth noticing that the top seven 3p% teams all went to the playoffs, and 11 of the top 13 with only Dallas and Indiana missing out. I assume it has to do with being more dangerous at threes creates more space in general, and five of those top seven teams actually were more point efficient shooting threes than twos. Just to round off: Still totally agreeing with you that it's not very entertaining watching all those quick three point shots. I can live with it when the pace is a bit slower and they create a good offense swinging the ball creating a good three point shot. But running and gunning threes none stop in nine second offenses is just boring.
@@SimonAstrupDK Yeah some teams like the Warriors are better off playing like that. But most teams arent. I like the way the Heat and Nuggets play im glad they made it to the finals.
@@rohanghose8707 He's seen it all, which means he knows what basketball is best, meanwhile you prefer a league where they change rules every time you blink and refs go either -100 or +100 with calls to a point players can't even tell what's a foul nowadays. So yeah, he's old and the new nba gameplay sucks ass.
As a player of basketball for over 40 years this video is spot on with the problems with the NBA. 👍 I've been watching the NBA less and less over the past few years. What ticks me off the most is the blatant traveling and carrying over of the ball. Also allowing offensive players to use their offhand to knock away defensive players and not allow defensive hand checking is a joke. These things are only making the referees look bad and causing young kids to copy them, thus making things worse for the game in the future. They talk about changing some rules. These things have been going on for too long. They will have to make drastic changes to correct the game. This is another reason why I don't compare players from different eras of the game. As you say it's a circus out there. No longer the real game of basketball. 😡
Five changes for me 1 - Only one timeout can be used per team in the last two minutes of any quarter 2 - Call carries 3 - Call walks 4 - Referee's held accountable exactly the same way as players and coaches 5 - No more intentional fouls...back in the day you got a tech for these (still current internationally)...and yes this applies at the end of the game fouling to stop the clock ⛳
@@jaco7675 Hahaha agreed...when I'm watching NBA you can find 20+ walks in a game that are never called... ...back in the day l counted and wrote them down...first game Boston vs someone l forget now but l stopped at 20 because there was 6 minutes left in the second quarter...so I thought I watch a west coast game and try and isolate it right?...and same thing around 20 or so by half...done a few other games and similar result...this is way back late 90's early 2000's but it's worse now!... My findings from sitting and yelling at screen "walk" every minute and extensive data collections that never made the full four quarters of a single game a common theme emerged over the years - 90% of non called walks are done by American players 10% by international's... ...l loved when USA finally brought the pros back in '92 Olympics and seeing their faces when the refs called up the walks it was priceless...one commentator said "l'm not sure why Barkley is upset at that call he took four steps and nearly ran out of the building"... ...The Americans did eventually adjust after a few games but some struggled and still do and I love watching them play...but it's hard to watch these great and gifted athletes struggle with something so basic that you get taught when you first start ballin ⛳
@@jaco7675 hahaha my kids play but I have them trained now...they are picking up calls before me now if we are watching a game...our running joke between us, they will call walk before me and then say "dad you need glasses" which has evolved now if they beat me to it they just call out "glasses"... ...Ahhh it's good being old 😎⛳
@@JohnDoe-ns8ho true. Once NBA starts to implement and enforce the same rule on travelling, Luka will not be able to just spin and turn walking all over the place.
@@shenghan9385 He only does that because he knows he can get away with it though. He was the Euro League MVP so there is no reason to believe that he can't play with stricter rules. Everybody would be affected, not just Luka.
The carry is what bothers me the most as I learned that that's the main difference between Street Ball and PRO. You're supposed to be able to perform at the highest level by moving past the flashy plays and be able to win through the talent
I spent an entire season watching college basketball and I saw so much carrying I thought they just adjusted the rule and I missed out. Hands technically should never be under the ball and even on the side it's quite questionable, but it happens so much I just thought I was getting old.
That’s because of AAU ball at the high school level. They just let kids play like they are already in the NBA so they lose out on the fundamentals. It’s no wonder 3 of the top 5 players in the NBA today are from Europe where they still teach the fundamentals.
Lets talk about tanking. Can you imagine what would happen if for example Partizan or Panathinaikos or Maccabi would literally loose on purpose in order to be last even if that is the best outcome for the club? There would be a revolution in the country, governments would change. Its a matter of honor. A club has honor, a franchise doesn't
Why would Maccabi ever tank? The only time they didn't go to the playoffs was in 55-56 when the Israeli League didn't hold playoffs. This is the problem with these kinds of leagues. They aren't competitive. Including the season without a championship Maccabi has FAILED to win the championship only 13 times. Tanking isn't great but it does provide a way for lesser teams to become contenders and win the championship. In foreign leagues there simply is no path forward for smaller clubs. The big money teams won before, are winning now, and will continue to win in the future. UNFAIR and BORING.
You Europeans are barbarians and soccer hooligans. In places like USA and Australia we are trying to attract families to games. Children... Who would take a kid to a Euroleague game? A barbarian?
I remember it when going from the perimeter to the rim was a fight. You had to dunk over a 7 footer who'd spent his entire life defending the rim, which is why you had to work it into the big man in the post. Essentially, they've made it too easy in the name of "entertainment". How is that entertaining?
Something that has become more annoying recently is how easy it is for an offensive player to draw a foul. Basically just run into someone and fall over. It's a foul on the defense when the ball carrier is the one who initiated contact
Lack of defense, lack of physical play, lack of consistency when calling the rules etc.. Tbh to me seeing the battle between 2 centers on the paint is simply amazing and something I miss and hope will return one day.
The real game is how to increase revenue for the NBA? If allow tough defense and physicality, it would be more difficult for European players to compete with American players. Globalization is how the NBA eats now.
@@vamoneygroup they change the rules too often and are enforced too arbitrarily. Just by doing the same call every time and keeping the same rules every time would be a big step in the right direction
@@marceloasensiofilho3833 absolutely but the bottom line is revenue, TV deals, etc. If the NBA was still 85% black players the ratings would be in jeopardy so now the rules change to allow margina European talent to compete.
The carries, the steps, those are an issue. The 3 was the best addition to the game ever, as it brings more talent to the league instead of just seeking out the biggest man to stand in the paint.
Nah the 3 point revolution has sucked for basketball. 80s and early 90s fastbreak basketball was awesome. The 3 point line was there but no one used it. Layups being the most valuable shot is better for basketball. There a many different ways to set up an offense to optimize paint play in full court and half court sets. Great shooters had an effect in every era. Bird, Reggie Miller, Ray Allen, Peja Stojacovic, many others I'm missing. Nowadays everything mid range is worthless. There's barely any variety anymore. AAU basketball has also just made players unskilled so they need all of these crutches on offense. Players can't function outside simple offensive sets anymore and suck on defense too
@delusionalantics the constant 3 point barrage is a joke and boring as fuck. OOh wow they can shoot a three whooptydoo can they do that when the game is on the line most cant lol pressure is a killer of shots of some of these slackers
The offensive foul interpretation also changed quite a bit. Before it was an offensive foul, if the ball handler was moving with the shoulder into the chest of the defender. Now this move is mostly a foul by the defense. Especially when a star is the ball handler.
It shouldn't be a foul at all. Let the players go up for a shot, and let the defenders make legit attempts to block the shot. Contact shouldn't be a big deal, as long as it's not just someone running into the man without a legit attempt to get the ball. If a defender jumps straight up and even backwards, there is NO WAY they should be called for a foul unless they physically stop the shooters arm from shooting or attack the player's head or shove them or whatever.
@@B3Band I'm waiting for the day when the legit way to train for professional basketball is not shooting or dribbling balls anymore, but to train muscle to tackle, charge, arm wrestling, sumo pushing. And it become America national martial art.
You're talking about the "Lebron James shoulder barge"....Yup, he gets away with offensive fouls EVERY GAME. It's pathetic but the league needs him so they never call it. Kobe was a better player.
Nba with fiba rules would be so amazing… i prefer watching EuroLeague games because of the way the game is played. But the Nba players are usually more talented altho i do feel like there could be a few players that would lose their superstar status under the fiba rules
@@jeremiahdanielsamuel2505 look at europesn team defence its better ,in NBA americam players dont know to play box and one/or isolation how we call it here in balkans. When best defending guard takes on best PG or G
The NBA wanted to make the game more exciting for the fans but they overcorrected. Now there is a lot more scoring but the quality of play is not as good. The stars of the past were just as good shooters but did not get as many opportunities because teams could actually field a defense and all the calls were not in favor of the offense.
Lmao the older players are not as good as shooters stop romanticizing the past. Claiming they are something they’re not. 😂 the 3pt line was shorter and they weren’t shooting like that.
I agree with everything in the video. The 3-pt/4-pt change is very interesting, I'd be curious to see some analytics on that. The worst offenders for me in terms of decreasing watchability of the game are travels, moving screens, and foul-baiting. Defense works so hard, doing everything right (from the perspective of my couch anyway), all for naught because the offensive player has such an advantage. I really enjoyed the start of the season 2 or 3 years ago where the refs were really cracking down on offensive-player-initiated contact. So many stars (Harden, Curry, Trae) had much worse PPG because the fouls were not getting called. Another small-but-big difference to FIBA is being able to touch the ball after it hits the rim. In NBA, there's nothing stopping an offensive player tipping the ball back in, but if the defender touches the ball, goal-tend. Where's the fairness in that?
Excellent video and well made points. Glad you're speaking out about this. The games of the top league on the planet have become stale... quite boring in recent years. In euroleague every point scored is exciting. Because you actually need to achieve it by getting past the defense. Every game is exciting, because there's fewer of them, thus each and every singly one carries more weight.
@@AugustasSuliauskas It is mainly harder because of the rules. On top of that the defensive schemes and tactics are better and more team oriented in europe imo. Of course the offensive players aren't as good as in the NBA but neither are the individual defensive players so it kinda evens out.
We got into this mess by 'team handball-izing' Dr. Naismith's game. Let's go back to the rules of basketball; no travelling, dribble legally and screen legally.
Well for starters they could start enforcing the existing rules on travel and carrying. It's completely random now when they call the travel for example. Pretty much all players make travel violation every time they start the dribble which gives them slight advantage against defender.
I’d like to see the three point line drawn straight across the court at 24’. This would force shooters towards the center for the shortest shot allowing defenses to concentrate there. This would precipitate more midrange action.
if we got rid of the defensive three-second violation, would it make defenses better or would it just make teams shoot more 3s? it's worth considering because I think being on defense gives you so little power compared to how much control the offensive team has. but yeah carrying and illegal screens should be called.
Actually I saw a video a few days ago that talked about how mathematically the 3 pointer is perfect in terms of distance and amount of points. I forgot the name of the video unfortunately but it did an in depth mathematical and statistical analysis and revealed that this is the first time in NBA history when the ratio of points earned per shot are exactly the same from 2 point and 3 point.
Also the reason of why it didn’t happen right away from the introduction of the 3 pointer was for a couple reasons. 1) The distance of the 3 changed a couple times. 2) It had to take time for teams to adjust to the 3 pointer, especially when teams started to shoot it well. You have a good shooting team, it opens up the floor and actually makes 2 pointers easier. All in all, the 3 pointer in terms of being worth 3 points form the current distance it’s at is perfectly balanced.
I took my son to an open gym today. I haven't seen people play basketball in years. Every single person was carrying and traveling. I haven't played in almost 14 years. I can't imagine what I would be able to do if I got away with what these kids are doing. And I was nice!!!!!
I live in the USA and have been a hoops fan since Larry/Magic days. Everyone I know who grew up loving the NBA never watch it anymore, except for maybe the latter stages of the playoffs for precisely the reasons you outline here. The non enforcement of basic rules, everyone runs the same boring offense, etc... I prefer Euroleague , FIBA, and to some degree certain NCAAA games.
I agree on the same boring offense point... they need to crack down on illegal on ball screens because they make pick and roll offenses way too overpowered and easy to rely on.
Is there more diversity in NFL, for example? I’m not following and would be interested to hear if other sports have all cracked the code on the most efficient way to the most potent offenses.. or if it’s only basketball with all these rules
@@AugustasSuliauskas There is a massive amount of diversity in gridiron football. Even right now, the four teams left have very different styles. Two are running teams with one being more traditional and the other being more of a rpo and option running team and the other two are passing teams with one being more about crossing routes and the other being more about vertical stems.
@@AugustasSuliauskas NFL has many talented offensive coordinators that come up with a variety of schemes. Plus you can either run or pass the ball. Many rule changes went into effect to favor the offense and more scoring but you still get great defensive play sometimes as in last nights Cowboys/49ers playoff game. NBA have had many rules changes to favor the offense as well, but the public doesn't buy into it as much due to the perceived lack of D.
Nba needs to come out and enforce travel/carry rules or change them to match the no calls. Every team carries the ball 10 or more times per game and its never called.
The NBA tried to make more "highlights" kind of game. More flashy and less technical. They allowed offense go crazy, with relaxation in travelling, carries, and gather step. While at the same time reducing defenses options. No handcheck, no touch on dribble, 5 second rules, and many more. To the point that defense is almost non important, just out score the opponent. This is why Luka says its easier to score in the NBA than in Euroleague.
This is the absolute best " fix the NBA" video I've seen to date!! Calling carries, screens, and friggin traveling needs to happen!! I've been saying the Association plays too many games since the shortened season back in 2011 season. Take it down to 72 games and start the season on New Year's. FIBA rules also makes sense. It's an international game. All countries should be playing under the same rules. Only thing I don't agree with is the 3 & 4 point shot. That makes it a circus like Pop said. Push the line back so we don't have so many 3's being shot. Aside from that, great video!👍🏾
In 90s-early 00s, each basket earned was more intense to watch the offense or defense battle. Now is more about who makes mistakes and fouls for the other to take momentum and control the clock.
Probably just enforcing carries/palming/travels more, on top of removing hand checking rule and MAYBE the defensive 3 second rule, or maybe making it a 5 second rule instead. That would be probably be enough for teams to play better defense without disrupting offense and slowing games down too much.
I actually don't think there's a problem with the rules, I think the problem is that the rules are not being enforced. I don't care if you blow the whistle 11 times a quarter on a single player, but stop allowing people to travel and carry, period. Yes, there will be growing pains, but as you mentioned, if enforced consistently, players eventually will adapt and we'll have a better product for it in the long run.
More of a soccer fan here but a player going past 2-3 players should be a display of skill. Not normalcy. I went to a single NBA game and the above is the issue. Scoring is normal, making it relatively boring. There is imo little to get exciting about and scoring becomes similar to winning your serve in tennis while not scoring appears like somebody breaking the serve. It becomes less about scoring as much as possible and more about not failing to score as much as possible.
I am happy with some old school games on youtube, in the last twenty-five years I've seen around less than three NBA games and I am still alive! Thanks for the good video, dude! I am looking forward to the next year's olympic tournament!
The thing that frustrates me is that the league came out and said refs calling these violations would slow down the game. These guys are players on the top level. Why can’t they adjust their play to stay within the rules?
Just yesterday I was watching the '05 Finals, the game was sooooo physical just 15 years ago, up to 2012, I think. Such a pleasure to watch games where every point counts, because every possession is drained in blood and sweat
See this is what blows my mind about these new aged casual fans. I feel like I argue with them across all platforms on a daily basis as they disrespect greats like Patrick Ewings 51 against the Boston Celtics. Because he made it look so easy they believe A.) that no one played defense in the 90’s and B.) greats from the 90’s wouldn’t be able to score in today’s NBA. Blows my mind the cognitive dissonance constantly on display with these Fairweather fans
@@meayers7 honestly I just try avoiding arguing with people. Especially when they have no personal knowledge of a subject, as is watching games across last 75 years. It’s like the saying goes: you have to see it to believe it. One simply can’t equate 51 points in year 2022-23 with 51 points in 1986 or 2007 or even 2013
Watching those teams(especially duncan) is like a breath of fresh air. What I miss most from that Era(besides what you wrote) is the variety of scoring and different styles of play. You still had post up players You had guys like ginobli who scored in crafty ways. Guys like Ben Wallace who was pretty much a defensive specialist. The 3 pointer had not fully taken off yet and most Teams had a 3 point "specialist", where it was more of a strategic weapon. Now the game has been simplified to where pretty much every wing player plays the same and every big guy just rebounds and dunks. Post play is gone. Every team looks for an open 3 and that's the only option. I like guys like jokic who I'd say is the exception to the rule. I think most players growing up with aau ball now is another factor.
@@meayers7 guys from the 80s and 90s like Ewing barkley McHale etc would dominate in today's nba. There are exceptions, but in general modern players don't want to play physical post up style ball now. Teams only focus on defending the 3.point shot because they're all.about analytics. It's just my opinion but I think the stars of that era.played harder too
@@JJ_5289 those are very valid points you brought up, it's as if up to a certain point there was a balance of skills, tactics and pure physicality in the NBA and now it's gone, not only because of the 3-point-revolution and "rise of analytics", but how games are being called first and foremost. Flopping doesn't get discouraged at all, eurosteps that turn into eurotrips and egregious carry violations almost never get called, while actually defending by using hands gets punished most of the time . As a consequence the value of a single point gets diminished in a way that a big chunk of games get nearly unwatchable, as they deteriorate into a shooting contest with a side dish of flopping
When I think of modern NBA offenses, I think of James Harden. Half of his game is initiating contact, hooking his arm with the defender and drawing a foul. A defender could be standing still and not moving his arms, and somehow Harden would still get a foul call. It makes the game stupid to watch. Every NBA regular season game is basically a Harlem Globetrotters-type exhibition game.
No, the NBA is not more skilled today. They just travel more, switch pivots, play no defense, shoot 3s, flop, and carry the ball. That is not more skilled. That is WWE basketball, and fans know it.
I totally agree with the points stated in this video, but I will add something else. Watching an NBA game on TV ends being booooring, the games are so long, and there isn't a moment when a team can extend a scoring streak to turn around the game, because there are so many time outs, a lot of interruptions to cut the pace. That makes easy, as a viewer, to lose interest in the game. I always "watch" NBA games while I'm doing something else. The game is always my second choice, being played in the background. And I'm quite old yet and I'm used to focus and be patient, but my son is incapable to maintain the attention. Newer generations are used to consume short videos and change to another one in a few minutes if it's not interesting enough for them. If the NBA doesn't change, I think it will have a dark future.
100% on all this. These are all the reasons I don't watch the NBA until playoffs, and hate the style of play even when I watch. I know I'm the weird one for this, but I find defense the best part (which is missing from even playoff games)
Offensive faults are practically never called in the NBA. NBA is not playing basketball anymore. The relation is like between wrestlemania and olympic wrestling.
The first three changes you suggest are by far my biggest complaint about the NBA. Especially the travels and carries which have been permitted for decades without much complaints from the refs. Really wish they'd call them and get back to a more 'pure' and fair basketball...
True this and the illegal screens now yea - hand checking back would be awesome too and changing the way juniors are trained to a more team based competitive spirit would allow for any future killer instinct MJs to rise up.. bring it - i wont hold my breath tho
The game played in the NBA is NOT basketball. Its a hybrid "breed", which has been altered for the sake of showmanship. All the rules you mentioned, that have been changed or outright are just ignored by the refs (obviously because they have been asked to do so), lead to and promote a star-player focused game. How can you call it basketball when a player, quite literally, picks up the ball with no stable foot, runs 5 steps without dribbling while palming the ball and fakes while dribbling over the defender who is blocked by a moving screen ? Those rules were there for a reason. And this reason was mostly, to encourage TEAM PLAY, in a team game. You HAD to pass the ball , you HAD to time your screens correctly in order to help your teamate. You HAD to follow a co-ordinated play, in which everyone played their part, in order to find the open shot. Whats the point of all that if one guy can just grab the ball and travel his way to the basket ? All of those things are gone in todays NBA. The players are learning the sport like that all the way through their life. I remember when the outrage was only about how NBA players used to take flight with their KNEE extended and not being charged with offensive fouls while going for a dunk. Which is, in itself, a major issue of unfairness to the defender. Dunks in the NBA have lost all meaning for me , for that very reason. How can you even defend when someone flies with their knee or elbow leading the way ? My point is, those rules were there for a reason. Its a team game but the NBA has taken that aspect out of it, for the sake of showmanship. You cant expect to change FUNDAMENTAL rules and then scratch your head on why the game has evolved into something else. Even in international competitions USA teams are refereed leniently, whereas NBA international players get called for things NBA USA players dont. Its obviously a directive of compromise. If the refs would call team USA with actual FIBA rules, they would hardly score. Anyways, its a tree - forest situation. Its not about the scorelines and statistics imo, its about the very essence of the game. Its a team game and the NBA has managed to make it a "single player with a supporting cast" game. Which bodes well with records and cool dunks and 3pointers, but when the excitement goes away (which is starting to happen) because those become the norm, then they will have to change it to something else. But thats a slippery slope.
@@flashorb2707 did you even to read his comment? He said that the refs were very lenient with the FIBA rules and if they actually were following the FIBA rules, USA would have been called for travels in every single possession. I assume you're from the US, so it's logical to not understand the FIBA rules or why the NBA sucks so much when ti comes it's rules and calls. Read again his comment properly
You’re being hyperbolic, the carry step, jumping with the knee out, not needing to keep your hand at the very top of the ball and other things Literally exist for biomechanical & practical reasons. Look at old school basketball. It’s stilted and awkward, not fun. There’s a a reason basketball as a national sport was dead for a long time before the 80s. The game evolved, offense became better, the game became more exciting, more fun. What the hell is “real basketball” meant to mean? It’s basketball. People are loving it. Get over yourself man! Note: if you think jumping one leg in with your knee out- which is a natural motion for a human, is unfair to a defender, that’s embarrassing… And you’re factually wrong about the team aspect swindling, teams don’t win big playing hero ball like you’re describing. No single star with supporting cast wins. Team sport, cohesion has always won. Whether it’s been with a big three or not. You should be more open minded, honestly. You’re holding on to an ideal that proven by the numbers and by general response, to be impractical and not as enjoyable. And it’s causing you to believe and say things that aren’t true, like the hero ball taking over the game. Definitely not true.
It’s what I have been saying since years. NBA should return to 90s rules, similar to FIBA: no traveling, no ball carrying, no ilegal screens, no 3sec def paint rule, return of hand checking, a little bit of physicality. What is insane is seeing all this NBA stars playing on international games and suddenly all this flashy games disappear. Suddenly even they forget how to shoot 3s! Why! Because rule set is super important! NBA is sinking.
I can tell you why when you imply todays athletes are more skilled and athletic than before. The rules have been bastardized to allow them to get away with traveling, double dribbling, palming, pushing off, and the NO CHARGE ZONE that allows someone to run straight from halfcourt, jump from the foul line and dunk without any way to stop them. Just imagine greats like Wilt, Magic, Barry, etc. being able to play without rules like that.
@@bobobububu EL unfortunately has a much more difficult time with budgeting. Firstly the main league that is alive in the form that it is has only been alive for 22 years now. Some clubs are only now building decent sized arenas. There's some clubs in arenas that only have a few thousands seats still. Further, clubs represent completely different countries, in a couple of cases even a different continent. Tax systems, budgeting, in some countries corruption and so on make it extremely difficult to try and impose any kind of salary cap. Furthermore, basketball doesn't rank even close in on average popularity in Europe as it does in USA. It's a really popular sport only in a handful of countries in Europe. Then there's the problem of pay structure.
@@bobobububu For example a club like real or barca will receive a big fat payout from their parent football(soccer) club that created them. Clubs in some countries like CSKA or zenit of Russia which used to play there before this season would get huge payouts from Russian energy oligarchs that effectively own those clubs. So they have much less incentive to market themselves, while on the other side clubs like maccabi, zalgiris, partizan and the likes are packed with roaring fans and are maintained by their support. Euroleague keeps breaking it's records for average tickets sold, viewership and so on every few years. So in essence, compared to NBA, it's a really young league that still needs time to grow and it still has a lot of large markets it needs to tap on it's own continent and introduce basketball to a broader audience(like in UK for example, where it seems like it might be starting with the 'London lions' from what I've heard). But none of this changes the fact that I watch both EL and NBA and NBA games in the regular season sometimes just feel like a boring chore to watch. A single game feels so pointless when there's still 50 remaining in the season.
@@mp1335 i dont get why they dont give partizan and zvezda licenses or just make it so the finals in the adriatic league means qualification to euroleague it makes the eurocup more exciting without the sheer dominance of a club like partizan or zvezda and also gives decent clubs like cedevita or buducnost a chance although they are struggling
@@mp1335 I follow the Euroleague closely for the last 20 years, this is the game I grew up on. I just don't like the arrogance of some European fans. "they play no defense", and "their system is crap". As an organization EL can learn a lot from the NBA, I do not expect them to be as successful (partly because of the reasons you mentioned) but they at least get closer. And as long as fans shit on the NBA instead of demanding EL adapt the good things from the NBA, the mediocracy is going to continue.
The 2 things that upset me the most are: the carries, players from many generations learned how to dribble the ball without carrying and now these kids carry like crazy. And second, the moving screens, but specially when there's a completely legal screen, then the defensive player runs, crashes and falls down like he was hit by a truck and the referee calls OFFENSIVE foul LOL. This is crazy, that's why a lot of ppl is not interested in NBA basketball as much as before.
I would have the NBA adopt FIBA rules but keep the corner 3. FIBA rules are basically the old NBA rules from the 1980's and 1990's up until 2003/2004 with the innovations of David Stern. That was the real Golden🌟 Age of Basketball. I also agree making the season shorter is better for the game to make each game more meaningful. Perhaps 50 games instead of 82. Also the All Star-Game has to be re-done because it used to be that All-Stars competed to show that they were the best. Instead today its just an exhibition of no defense. Maybe players who get selected for the All-Star Game should get a special monetary bonus or special insignia they can carry on their jersey all year showing their elite status as players, if a player loses his all star status he has to hand his insignia to a player who has been selected to the all-star team in the following year...it makes the game and the elite status more personal if you have to literally hand the baton to a player who has out-competed you...
Leagues always have this one-track mind about increasing scoring, but it’s pace and action that keeps sports exciting. The 3-point revolution has been mostly good but also incredibly boring and annoying to watch at times.
I pretty much agree with all of these. Simply enforcing travelling, carrying, and moving screen violations would go a long way. I've also long thought we should do away with both offensive and defensive three second violations. Three in the key made sense when the game was played closer to the basket but that's not really the case now. I'm a little hesitant to bring hand-checking back, to me that would be last on the list but not out of the question. Getting rid of corner threes sounds radical but might actually make a lot of sense. I think a balance needs to be found between the way the game is currently played vs the slow, post oriented game in the 90s, which IMO wasn't as entertaining as the game is now. The NBA could experiment with some of these ideas in the G-League the way the MLB experiments with proposed rule changes like pitch clocks in the minor leagues.
@@Ricky-Spanish That's an option, or you could fix the 3pt line so that it melds with the out of bounds line. It would be the same distance from every point, so there would be no point to try to shoot from the tiny space at the edges, unless you were going out of bounds.
the carrying is what really stands out to me. I'm from europe and basketball never was as big here as in the US. But when we played at school (no, not a school team, just us playing 5 minute matches in sports class) our teacher would have called out those carries in the video. He always said if We'd carry the ball like that, we could just as well start playing rugby.
That’s how it was in the states for me I graduated in 2010 but it seems like sense then the boom off AAU (club teams not high school) the fundamentals have gone away.
Big men posting up offensively has been pretty much completely eliminated from the NBA today. What this means is that the lane is WIDE open and once an offensive player gets by the initial defender there is no big defensive player guarding an offensive big so there's nobody there to block the shot. That's the majority of what's going on. You can go an entire game now without seeing even one player catch a ball in the low post and attempting to score in that manner.
Agree on that, I just recall many of them; Hakeem, P. Ewing, D. Robinson, D. Mutombo, Shaq and a long, long etcetera; nowdays you barely see someone doing that, it is a shame
The kawhi Leonard rule is also a major point. If you watch close outs and contests on 3 pt shots, they often fly off to the side or contest like 4 feet away from the shooter because they are scared to get called for a flagrant or a foul. Safety is important but imo they overreacted cuz it was Kawhi. I didn’t see a real epidemic of players doing that to implement that rule. So these 3s are often wide open with a contest that is more for show than actually stopping the 3 pointer
Some of that is also strategy, the raptors do it on purpose to try and run guys off the 3 point line and into their rotating defense. Nick nurse even said so. But it doesn’t seem to be working that well…
I agree to most of your arguments, except the 3Point argument. 3pointing is still more risky , and a 2 point game is still more secure. this is not an issue at all. also during Jordan era there was the 3point shot , although it was not used that much, but it existed and nobody criticized that.
I agree to most of your arguments, except the 3Point argument. 3pointing is still more "risky" , and a 2 point game is still more secure.....the only thing you might do is increasing the 3point distance but at the moment I dont see the necessarity
Your point makes strategic sense but unfortunately coaches don't seem to agree with you. I think making the corner and wings 23 3/4 would get some coaches to look at the midrange game again.
**** the word "product". Basketball is not a product, it's a sport. It doesn't have customers, it has fans. It doesn't have features, it has rules. And it doesn't have sales targets, it has a history and a tradition. Everything wrong with the NBA is thinking of basketball as a product that we can change and manipulate any way the marketing guys tell us to. **** them too.
Exactly, sports is not a product. Sports is sports. It's passion, it's drive, it's emotions it's rivalries and it's mutual respect born out of those rivalries. It's a way to better yourself through fair competition. It's an excitement of knowing that any given day anything can happen when you start watching a game. If you battle like a lion you can win against anyone because rules are the same for everyone. That why i hate that sports are being treated like product or content. If you are gonna try to compete for that casual viewer you're are going to be competing with all the other content out there. And you will lose like tv networks are losing to all the podcasts, streaming networks and social media apps. By changing the game for marketing You're gonna lose real fans who go to games who buy merch who support teams when they loose. And you're gonna lose those teams to bankruptcy. Because the moment you're gonna start loosing games you'll loose all that marketing money and all those casual fans. And those casual fans won't even notice that the sport is gone, they'll be on TikTok watching other shit. The only way to keep sports alive and relevant is to let it be what it is. Let it offer what no one else does - unscripted storytelling where gods rise and fall every day. And you don't need tv marketing money for that. You only need fans that worship players and teams. And players that love the game and give it all for the game by doing so they get that eternal GLORY. Of course the games has to be fair for everyone and thats it. Like olympics in greek times. You won't have 35mil per year player contracts. But you will have a great sport. And lets be real... if i'm getting 35mil per year im really not gonna give my all on defense. I won't play through pain and i won't show up for my team when they need me if i have a micro injury. Because if i twist my ankle i may not get that 35 mil next year. Hell i wont even pass the ball, i need my statistics, fuck the team and my teammates i need to get paid.. i'll be on the other roster next year anyway.
Basketball is a competitive sport except in the NBA where it's nothing more than a circus show and a marketing business. Take out moving screens and introduce 2 divisions with promotion and relegation.
I disagree with lessening the games, they could avoid back-to-backs which would make it a lot easier. Also the defensive 3 second rule is pretty good, it makes the defence more versatile and it definitely stops people like Gobert from just camping in the paint.
Rudy should be camping in the paint that’s his primary job to defend the rim! It’s not like it’s impossible to score with him down there just watch any team play France in FIBA. It use to be impressive to watch a guard or small forward dunk over 7 footers and now it’s just normal.
1) Get rid of the 3 point line (turn it back into a mans game) 2) Make the season 125 games (which would average 5 games per week) while expanding the roster to 18 (this would limit the ability of a small handful of players to dominate the league) 3) Bring back hand checking 4) Automatic ejection for flopping +5 game suspension 5) Audit refs - the bottom 10% dismissed every year 6) Enforce dribbling rules 7) Pull one of the refs in the 4th qtr
I worked hard to learn how to move horizontally and keep these dudes in front, hand checking is trash you can use their body to push and pull yourself into their spots. It's not high skill ball. The 3 ain't going nowhere, and 125 games with 18 man rosters is absurd.
And having to guard the three balances the game so teams don't play ridiculous drop schemes and stack the paint leading to players getting killed with hard fouls on their drives. It's not fun, players get injured more, and it's not higher skill.
I agree with coach Popovic that NBA has become a circus. The real basketball is been played in Euroleague.NBA is more about individual performance rather than the team's.So I suggest playing a lot more fewer games so that every game matters and of course I would like to see all that "talent" in European rules and referees... But that would spoil the "product"....
@@tawadrosal-yunani coach Pop won't be coming in Euroleague. He doesn't need more challenges now he is over 70 years old plus he doesn't have to prove anything to anyone.I am a Spurs fan and I became spurs because of the "European" style of basketball they were playing thank to him.
#1: Make the three point line the same length all around the arc (no easy corner threes). #2: Weaken but don't eliminate the defensive three second rule. Have it apply only in the lane not 4 feet outside it, and suspend the defensive count any time an offensive player enters any part of the lane instead of the "active gaurding" arm's length standard. (You could also exempt the free throw circle from the count to make playing the middle of the court easier.) #3: Don't change the *rules* about fouls, dont need to bring hand checking back, but no more "ticky-tack" foul calls for minimal incidental contact or basically just breathing on them. It should be possible to play tight D without getting a zillion unintentional fouls called on you for minimal contact. #4: If the offensive player initiates contact outside the restricted area that should be an *offensive* foul call not on the defense. Come on now. #5: Call traveling when it happens. Just do. Doesn't matter if it's "annoying"...good players shouldn't need to carry.
Honestly I think the NBA should just remove the palming and traveling rules altogether. This would actually benefit the defense a lot since it's 100% clear that the ref will not blow the whistle on anything. As it is now, players expect calls that rarely happen.
I don't agree with adding 4pt shot or removing corner threes. I think calling more moving screens, carries, and travels would improve the game. I also don't think body-to-body contact should be a foul, especially if hands are straight up.
Great video! I’ve been saying this for awhile. You bring up some interesting points. The lack of diversity in style of play in the NBA is mind numbing. In 2013 the highest scoring team in the NBA averaged 106 ppg. There were 19 times scoring under 100 ppg. Currently zero teams are averaging under 100 ppg and the lowest scoring team is averaging 108 ppg.
The NBA is not a sport. It's entertainment for the crowd. The funniest part is that Americans consider the winner of the NBA league "world champion" 😂😂😂
Thanks for the video! The carries and travels caught on video are just crazy -- and the so-called stars are getting special treatment from the refs in the NBA. Importing some FIBA rules would be a big help.
what about getting over the 'closed shop idea'? Having a primere national league and a second one? at least this ridiculous concept of tanking would be obsolet, if the teams would have to fear a relegation battle, if they are on the bottom of the table.
Tanking and NBA draft actually creates millions of $ for the league + allowing for young prospects to develop in the league and faster. It creates storylines all over the year, thus making it fun to follow NBA 365 days per year. I think creating a relegation system would actually do more harm than good but that’s just my 2 cents
No nba owner is going to accept a chance their team is going to be devalued by being dropped to B league. You can keep dreaming there. Hosts that run the arenas wouldn’t either.
FIBA stands for "Fédération internationale de basket-ball" (International Basketball Federation) so it is not an European thing. That rules are applied all over the world, so would be great that the NBA just adapt to the international rules. 10mins per quarter, 3secs in the paint rule, smaller court and shorter 3point line would make a big difference. No forget to mention traveling and so on that are basketball basics...
@@theoneonly259 are you ok man? wtf do you understand by International? the rules are applied all over the world but in the NBA. do you need some help bro? just ask, the community can help you out
Ummm, basketball was INVENTED in the United States. We own the rights. We make the rules. We don't follow Europe or FIBA. Not saying I think the NBA is better, but why would we follow anyone else?
LOL these are the worst rules except maybe 10 min quarters. Smaller court? why? these are elite athletes, why clog up space? shorter 3 pt line? NBA guys can hit 35 foot jumpers like layups this won't help
@@ErroneousMonk1 what a child minded reasoning... the reason you must follow others is just because the NBA is NOT fun anymore. You dont follow anyone in any f$#@ thing... just think about football (soccer) doing it your way... you got it... so the reason that basketball is your invention just to make your own rules is not consistent cuz you do it everytime... being your invention or not. There's a word for that: arrogance.
My last strand of interest left when they started punishing players for playing defense. Now days you see all these wild dunks and three pointers because if you cough 4 feet within a shooter it's a foul.

Carrying, traveling and illegal screens. You mentioned the main problems.
Zone hasnt helped either
@@sugarnads why? i like watching zone defense. one on one is a less intelligent approach.

So true
yes, harden did that to a degree the NBA changed the rules for it. what your talking about has not happened as much in the last 2 seasons. cmon
WWE - 'Sports Entertainment' It's no longer a sporting event. I stopped watching a long time ago.
That’s what it is . “SPORTS Entertainment” just like the WWE && also the higher ups choses the Star Players . Before every live game they announce that it’s sports entertainment also so if you try to Sue in court like multiple people did you would lose because they will admit that the league chooses who wins & loses.

money making declining if they keep this up
1. Call carries
2. Call travelling (only 2 extra steps after your last dribble)
3. don't call fouls when the offensive player initiate the contact (that applies to jumping in defenders & the swing motion..which is the worst of them all)
4. Remove the zone
5. Remove the defensive 3-second
6. Bring back partial hand-check
7. Make 3 point shots worth 1 point.
Ban step through which not jump on both feet. Using one extra step to jump makes it so un fair to the defense

I think foul baiting is still a huge problem. Offensive players get rewarded too much for creating contact.
I only watch a game every other week or so, but every single game in every single quarter there's at least 1 weak-ass call that I know would never be called in the 2000's. They need to change the rules to let defenders actually play defense without having to be afraid of incidental contact while the ball is in the air.
Agree. I'd call it the "800 Rule" for the 800 free throws James Harden took his last year with the Rockets.
Foul baiting by itself is ok, the criteria of what counts as a foul is dumb. They can go all nfl one play with no calls, and then get called for breathing on another player the next play.
@@gaspergerm7424 Accurate.
Why does scoring need to go down? What is 'reasonable levels' and what makes that reasonable? Those would be my questions
@@PlaySA Because this lack of defense makes the gaems less tense and unappealin, and puts FAR too much efforr on just shooting, might as well ditch the second basket and just make them throw free shots the entire game
@@PlaySA it doesnt but the pace of the game does. Because chucking up threes all game long isnt entertaining nor the most effective way to play.

Five changes for me
1 - Only one timeout can be used per team in the last two minutes of any quarter
2 - Call carries
3 - Call walks
4 - Referee's held accountable exactly the same way as players and coaches
5 - No more intentional fouls...back in the day you got a tech for these (still current internationally)...and yes this applies at the end of the game fouling to stop the clock ⛳

That’s because of AAU ball at the high school level. They just let kids play like they are already in the NBA so they lose out on the fundamentals. It’s no wonder 3 of the top 5 players in the NBA today are from Europe where they still teach the fundamentals.
I think hand checking should be brought back as this may also reduce isolation basketball and bring back emphasis on passing the ball.
idk about that, iso basketball was pretty much throughout before hand checking got removed, and it was even worse before defensive 3 seconds.
At least 1 hand, but two hand checkin turns into football.
At this point, I think Maccabi is tanking for real
I don't think honor is a concept in the US. The only values are money, individualism and entertainment.

Something that has become more annoying recently is how easy it is for an offensive player to draw a foul. Basically just run into someone and fall over. It's a foul on the defense when the ball carrier is the one who initiated contact

Tbh to me seeing the battle between 2 centers on the paint is simply amazing and something I miss and hope will return one day.

That was to help lebron who play bully style
Never understand how is that possibly a defensive foul. What are they suppose to do? Lay down the red carpet and sit down on the bench?
It shouldn't be a foul at all. Let the players go up for a shot, and let the defenders make legit attempts to block the shot. Contact shouldn't be a big deal, as long as it's not just someone running into the man without a legit attempt to get the ball. If a defender jumps straight up and even backwards, there is NO WAY they should be called for a foul unless they physically stop the shooters arm from shooting or attack the player's head or shove them or whatever.

But is it harder to score more because of less talented offensive players or more because of all the pro-offense rules that have the NBA implemented?
It's not random. It all depends on your stardom level.
I think a gradual move towards FIBA rules for the NBA would be awesome.

Great video!! I think the thing that annoys me the most is the travels and the carries, because these are already well established rules.

Good point. 3-3,5 min of timeouts are way too much.

Let's start applying the rules NBA already have, but CONSISTENLY

Note: if you think jumping one leg in with your knee out- which is a natural motion for a human, is unfair to a defender, that’s embarrassing…
And you’re factually wrong about the team aspect swindling, teams don’t win big playing hero ball like you’re describing.
NBA->draft->tanking->boring for a league that has the best talents
Europe->no draft->no tanking->exciting
I guess excitment doesn't pay. Allmost every EL team losses money, while the NBA making billions.

The all star game should Be now a USA/WORLD game, it will be intense…😮
Nah idk about shortening the season to 50 games because that would mess with the all time lists
64 game season. Each team plays every team twice. 4 times for teams in their division.
lets also make the court as small as fiba games
NBA is a real circus because they changed something that called sport to something called show
LOL Ja holds the ball for more time than he uses to dribble.
I actually did think exactly the same thing while watching footage for the video haha
I like the idea of extending the 3pt line the same distance all around.
@@shorewall In theory I do too, but you'd have to extend the width of the court for that to work. Not sure how feasible that would be.
I remember about this 10 years back the o/u line for a high scoring game was 205. Now teams be hitting that by end of Q3.
I think the 3 point line should be extended to 25 feet which would also eliminate the corner 3
3s arent an issue. Its all these rules that allow only offense to thrive.
@@outlander234 the only effective defense for a three is to hope the shooter misses it
The kawhi Leonard rule is also a major point.
You can generally thank Americans for that. They see everything as a product.
The league is a product and the game is a sport
Basketball is a competitive sport except in the NBA where it's nothing more than a circus show and a marketing business. Take out moving screens and introduce 2 divisions with promotion and relegation.
Eliminate defensive 3-seconds. That would be a good start. Great vid!
I hate the defensive three second rule .
lets also make the court as small as fiba games
I disagree with lessening the games, they could avoid back-to-backs which would make it a lot easier. Also the defensive 3 second rule is pretty good, it makes the defence more versatile and it definitely stops people like Gobert from just camping in the paint.
Rudy should be camping in the paint that’s his primary job to defend the rim! It’s not like it’s impossible to score with him down there just watch any team play France in FIBA. It use to be impressive to watch a guard or small forward dunk over 7 footers and now it’s just normal.
1) Get rid of the 3 point line (turn it back into a mans game)
2) Make the season 125 games (which would average 5 games per week) while expanding the roster to 18 (this would limit the ability of a small handful of players to dominate the league)
3) Bring back hand checking
4) Automatic ejection for flopping +5 game suspension
5) Audit refs - the bottom 10% dismissed every year
6) Enforce dribbling rules
7) Pull one of the refs in the 4th qtr
I worked hard to learn how to move horizontally and keep these dudes in front, hand checking is trash you can use their body to push and pull yourself into their spots. It's not high skill ball. The 3 ain't going nowhere, and 125 games with 18 man rosters is absurd.
And having to guard the three balances the game so teams don't play ridiculous drop schemes and stack the paint leading to players getting killed with hard fouls on their drives. It's not fun, players get injured more, and it's not higher skill.
i thought i was blind but the amount of travelling and carrying is insane , this viedo is good. I hope they fix it fast.
Don't change the rules - enforce them. Carries, travelling and moving screens, that is.
You don't agree with Popovic. If that was Popovic' view, he'd have been coaching in the Euroleague.
Almost all matches in euroleague are dense this season
@@tawadrosal-yunani coach Pop won't be coming in Euroleague. He doesn't need more challenges now he is over 70 years old plus he doesn't have to prove anything to anyone.I am a Spurs fan and I became spurs because of the "European" style of basketball they were playing thank to him.
#1: Make the three point line the same length all around the arc (no easy corner threes).
#2: Weaken but don't eliminate the
defensive three second rule. Have it apply only in the lane not 4 feet outside it, and suspend the defensive count any time an offensive player enters any part of the lane instead of the "active gaurding" arm's length standard. (You could also exempt the free throw circle from the count to make playing the middle of the court easier.)
#3: Don't change the *rules* about fouls, dont need to bring hand checking back, but no more "ticky-tack" foul calls for minimal incidental contact or basically just breathing on them.
I also don't think body-to-body contact should be a foul, especially if hands are straight up.
lol popovich was trolling when he said he wants a 4 pt shot
@@AlexR0w In the video other people were suggesting a 4 pt shot
Great video! I’ve been saying this for awhile.
You bring up some interesting points. The lack of diversity in style of play in the NBA is mind numbing.
In 2013 the highest scoring team in the NBA averaged 106 ppg. There were 19 times scoring under 100 ppg. Currently zero teams are averaging under 100 ppg and the lowest scoring team is averaging 108 ppg.
Bring back the rules of the 90's
More emphasis on carry travel step and gather rules as well as moving screens being called would help the defense
MURICANS can't handle the concept of relegation, their egos would be forever shattered.
Of course its a Euro thing you clown. Where the %$%$ is FIBA headquarters?
Basically, the NBA has become a game of 3-on-3, with 2 guys standing around in the corners, waiting for a kick-out. Predictable. Boring.
My last strand of interest left when they started punishing players for playing defense. Now days you see all these wild dunks and three pointers because if you cough 4 feet within a shooter it's a foul.
The real basketball in NBA was 1980-2000 period. Now it is a circus totally :)
and 2000-2005
fuck iverson the refs stopped calling carries because of him
1980 - 1996/7
Ok grandpa
Coach Pop is 100% right
I cant even watch NBA anymore man
Since like 2015 its a fkin joke
Points have less meaning, clutchness lost its value, just seeing Dirk in action was a work of art
So true
I miss just seeing defense period
3 and 4 points is interesting. What are we doing with free throws then? 1.5 points or 2 points?
The league needs to expand. What we are seeing is the incredible amount of depth teams have. It's only going to grow.
