Spot on Matt, same here - its and also the fact the community he's built is sound as hell, no toxicity at all, just a bunch of madlads who enjoy yeeting cars on and off track. All supportive, and all like having a chill as much as a nail biting enduro race or seeing Jimmer dominate his IRL Dutch racing experience or the smile when he collected his R32

As a Brazilian I can say that Ayrton was most likely the biggest idol we've ever had. That is crazy to think about since our top one sport is football. F1 wasn't and isn't that famous in Brazil. But in rough times not only with our government but also with sports, the Brazilian people didn't have anything to be proud of. We've been eliminated from the World Cup recently and living in Brazil is rough just by being Brazil, right? So then Ayrton happened and it didn't matter if he was on F1 that wasn't famous or any other sport, we had someone out there fighting for us and carrying our flag wherever he went. My dad says that the day he died the streets were empty and quiet. It seemed that not only Senna was gone, but the whole population too. The fact that he created the Senna Institute to help poor kids get easier access to education is also a big reason why we loved him so much. He was praised. I had backpacks, shoes, shirts, shorts, all merch from Senna. He still lives in our hearts.
    EDIT: Spelling.

Hey Jimmer. As someone who has trodden your path (lost my icon/Morfar/Grandfather/more father than my absent father in 2015) there's no consolation in anything that I can say. That missing part you feel now might always be there but its because of your shared experience with your Grandfather is the reason that part is missing - its the connection you and him had and have.
In Portuguese, there's a untranslated word, "Saudade"* The absence of something or missing something.
Good luck to you during these emotional next weeks. Stay strong and big love. The best part is you have a wonderful community to share your grief and experiences with.

8:36 Immersed. That's the word I'd use to describe that feeling. Gran Turismo 4 was the game which drew me Into cars, and not a day has gone past since I first played when I haven't thought about it. Gran Turismo was a truly special series of games, nothing else has ever been quite as captivating to me.
Whenever playing any part of the game you can tell how much it was a labour of love, even down to the music chosen. I know the feeling those games give.
I believe it was Banksy that said this: "you die twice, once when your body dies and again when someone says your name for the last time."

I was crying at the end for real. It’s good to talk to people about it than let it build up inside I think. My heart goes out to you mate. I’m really sorry that you lost your Grandpa. From what you’ve said he was a really cool man.
I remember being 5 1/2 years old playing with my toy F1 cars I was actually using a dark blue one that reminds me of Williams and I was making car noises lol when suddenly breaking news happened and my dad said Shhh Danny, I looked at the TV and it was an F1 driver who had died. I asked my father who’s that is he a good driver. My dad just said yeah mate that’s the best driver in F1 right now and he just died today. That’s a real shame.
I said oh that’s sad who is he. I don’t remember anything after that. Fast forward to 2004 when I was about 15 1/2 a Senna tribute was on for the Imola GP. It was then I remembered the driver who had sadly died all those years ago. It was Ayrton Senna. It took me 10 years before I knew who that driver was that day. I didn’t know how to do research and all that stuff back then. I now know a lot about his career and he was before my time as well.
Definitely a true great and legend of the sport for sure. I wish I could give you a hug right now mate, you have my support buddy. Very lovely video by the way, top class.

Jimmy, man I am so so unbelievably sorry for your loss and I can tell how much it means to you. From the bottom of my heart I wanted to say a collective thank you from the community for all your hard work you have put into your videos, especially this one. I loved Senna as well and recently, yesterday I got on a discord and made a tribute to him though one of the main discords I was on. I thought it was important that I share the memory of this man to the people around me. To add to this tribute I thought I would try and break a Senna record from my home. I was going to beat his pole position at Imola from 1990. I did this because I was inspired by your original video with the Adelaide circuit. And after seeing this video I couldn't be more proud. You are truly and icon among the Sim racing community and I am hoping you and your family are coping well with your loss and I believe that your grand father could not be prouder of you right now.
    Thanks for reading...

I don’t think words can describe the admiration i (and many many others) have for you Jimmy. A man living in a shed sharing his passion for (sim)racing with a huge fanbase. Im sure a lot are sim/racing fans but im sure a lot of people are watching because of the person you are. So the close to 500k followers are no surprise!
There are plenty of sim channels on RUclips but none of them come close to yours.
So thank you Jimmy for sharing such a personal matter that we all can relate to. (I lost the last of my grand parents last Month)
    You are s true inspiration.

I cried during this. I cried for Senna, already an emotional day for a brazillian motorsport fan, and I cried for your grandpa, and for you. Never undermine what your career is. It IS a career and the fact it is not a beaten path many can go through only makes more evident your determination and sheer fucking awesomeness. Like Ayrton said: "Whoever you are, in whatever situation you may be, do what you do with determination, with passion, and a lot of faith. You will get there." You are doing this Jimmy, and your grandpa helped you do it in many ways. You are his gift and his legacy to the world. I don't think there can ever be anything wich may make any man more proud than this, so be proud. We are with you, Jimmy, in the little ways we can.

My Grandad passed away due to cancer in November 2004, just 3 months before I was born.
However, he still remains one of my greatest influences to this day.
While he wasn’t a gamer, he followed F1 all his life and had a great passion for all things motorsport.
He loved working on his Volvos, and named them all after ex-F1 drivers.
Clark was his favourite, a British Racing Green Volvo saloon.
In 2016, on my 11th birthday, I found a box in my Gran’s house. It was full of VHS Tapes and Cassettes.
All of the VHS tapes were of F1 races, and the cassettes were his own commentary over them.
Easy to say, I watched and listened to them. Those were the first ever F1 races I watched, with my Grandad’s enthusiastic commentary.
I was devastated to lose that box when we moved house a year later.
Of all the circuits, he always wanted to visit Spa-Francorchamps and dreamt of moving to the town of Spa, with plans to attend the race annually.
He was robbed of that dream.
So, When I visited Spa in September 2019, I brought a small picture of him and a small Saltire (🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿).
I dug a hole at the Blanchimont corner, wrapped his photo in the Saltire and buried him trackside.
In a way, he’s now achieved his dream, as he will attend every race at Spa from now on.
Small things like that have such great impacts on the people around you, and you yourself.
If I hadn’t discovered that box, I wouldn’t have anywhere near as much passion for motor racing today, if any.
That was a ramble and a half, but I don’t care. He made me who I am.
    Rest in Peace, Hugh.
    And thank you Papa.

Very touching video Jimmy, it’s really amazing how I can really relate to your story.
Much like you, Senna is my motorsport icon. And someone that has inspired me.
You telling your story about your childhood and Gran Turismo was so relatable. My dad used to get me involved in motorsport from the age of 3. He still does this now that I’m 17 which is amazing. I also very much remember getting my ass kicked on GT5 Prologue. I’ve always seen sim racing as an escape from reality, because I didn’t have a great time in elementary school, and ofcourse an amazing hobby/Esport.
Last but not least, I wanted to say that your videos have always brought me very much joy, in happy and sad times. Your videos got me back into sim racing again after I had a little break from it. And I am very happy that I got back into sim racing because I have made some very good friends in the process.
    Thank you Jimmer

My dad told me I was literally sitting on the sofa next to him when Senna crashed, but I was 3 and didn't understand shit and neither can I remember that today of course. Earliest memories are 1995 maybe, if anything. Became a huge fan in 96 tho.

It happened a few days before my sixth birthday, so I do have memories of it - Just. I always spent Saturday at my Nan and Granddad's house. So when Roland passed away in Qualifying, my parents opted not to tell me. After all, I wouldn't have known who he was because he wasn't a front runner.
We'd usually eat lunch at 2pm, then watch the race. We'd record it on VHS. After finishing lunch, we'd sit down to watch. I remember seeing thr crash and feeling nervous because of all the ambulances. When the severity of the situation became clear, my dad took me outside as he could see I visibly upset.
We had a wall with blue bricks at the top in our garden. I sat down with my dad and began to crush red ants with my left hand. He put his arm around me and I asked him, a tear running down the side my left cheek, "will Senna be okay?"
And the rest, as they say, is history.

In 1994, I was a stupid 10-year old whose first reaction upon hearing the news was, 'Yes! It's like in the good old days again!' My brother told me to stop being an idiot. Took me an embarrassingly long time to realize he was right - and rather wise for a 12-year old.

Your grandad sounds like a top bloke, my grandad passed away in 2011 and he was a big influence on me for my love of football (my Dad is responsible for the motorsport and hates football) and Bolton Wanderers his local club (a town that I call my hometown despite it not being so because of my unique upbringing as an Army kid). Its tough when someone so influential in one of your passions passes, and even more when its a family member too. This was a nice tribute and he deserved a devoted grandson like you.
