When you consider the drivers in real life have to do everything you do in a sim, such as maintaining consistency, the physical act of shifting and steering etc...and they also have to cope with extreme G-forces, on many occasions energy sapping heat, as well as the dehydration, the helmet and layers of fireproof overalls, plus the actual adrenaline rush of driving at the limit and being wheel to wheel with other cars at 200+ mph, it really is a testament to their bravery and skill.

I can still remember when I was 9 or 10 years old, I first drove around Nordschleife in a Mazda RX-7 FD on PSP version of Gran Turismo. Before that race, I had never learnt how to brake properly, how to corner properly or anything that is related to sim racing. But that track some how awakened the racing sense in my brain. It is like a click. As 95% of the corners on Nordschleife are blind, I realized I just need to brake before every corner to not crash. I was so excited to experience that Eurika moment and proceeded drive 10 more laps around.
Now after 10 years, I think it is the time to go around again.

Watching your streams, I feel transported to another realm where all my troubles of that moment wash away. Watching you urge that car around the track has almost a hypnotic edge to it. And through the years some just go on to the other sim games but I think a lot of us always come back and try with different tire pressure, toe, camber,... And then a couple of months go by, maybe new sim game came out, but then you get the feeling again, "you left something unfinished"... And go back for a couple of hours,... And so on... Stefan Bellof -- the more you look at his racing history and read accounts of drivers that worked alongside him -- was a truly incredible driver in his day. While the accident that ended his life was ultimately his own fault, there's no denying that he had the makings of an absolute legend. Martin Brundle even said "Stefan Bellof was as quick a driver as I've ever seen," which says a lot coming from a man that drove alongside drivers like Senna and Schumacher.
It's great to see him brought into the spotlight nowadays with videos like these. Great job on the lap.

You've been a big inspiration to me to start my channel and the bit towards the beginning where you were talking about personal goals really hits home for me. It really gets taxing trying to get video after video done sometimes, especially when you're trying to film things that you aren't super passionate about. It really comes across in the videos too if you're into what you're doing or not. Keep it up jimmer.

Jimmy, the Nordschleife videos are the ones that brought me to your channel the first place. Since then, I've been enjoying the great and even sometimes pretty wholesome content you've been posting. The things you said in this video, about besting yourself being the most important thing, it moved me a lot. Sometimes when I'm playing in the sim I get frustrated, fatigued and even "try too hard and become a sweaty mess". Seeing you, the person I look up to the most when it comes to sim-racing, go through all of these feelings, feelings that I've experienced myself and still do, just made me feel so much better with myself, with what I do. I'm not saying that "seeing an idle fail" makes one see themselves as better than the other. No. I'm saying that it makes me believe even more in my very own potential to achieve greatness and become a better person than the one I was yesterday (and also get killer lap times while I'm at it :D).
See that guy in the video, people? I like that guy.

6:11 is such a magical time, it shows that racing driver's are a special kinda breed, we all knew that Bellof was right up there with sheer pace and speed and that if he would have lived, it would have been a epic battle between him and Senna, both were the best at what they were doing, along senna they would have been the name of Bellof being multiple WC in maybe F1 (they say he already had signed a pre-contract with Ferrari) and he would have been GOAT before Schumacher and Senna.....but we will never know sadly...... Jimmy your effort has been brilliant and getting to that magical 6:11 must have been wonderful and yes in the future you will break that record, if you do i'll be around to see that, love the channel and keep up those vids coming!

What i would like to add to the positivity is that I did some bench presses at the gym and i found out that i had a lot more strength to fight the car through the corners because i was able to fight the forces being generated by the force feedback so a few bench presses, arm and shoulder exercises and i can see your lap times getting better. I think its likely that the circuit may have been less bumpy and the AC track mesh may not be the best comparison.
I should say though no matter the track condition Bellof's lap was unbelievably brave maybe even foolish.

Which as others had already mentioned was actually done in a 956; main difference was that the 962 was longer due to safety-regulations. And if I remember correctly the 962 had a bit more HP; I think it was around 30 HP more at 8200 RPM. Really a shame that his career had to end this tragic and this early. Could easily see how Bellof could have been the first german F1-Champion before Schumacher.

It's worth noting that Bellof was using an early 956 rather than the later 962, had a lot of much slower traffic to contend with, very limited track time and the sim model is based on post 1983 nurburgring which has had some of the bigger jumps shaved down. It shows how impressive the Bellof lap was. Of course Bellof probably was pushing harder than he should have as evidenced by flipping and destroying the car in the race! This was endurance racing, smart drivers who were both fast and mechanically sympathetic like Derek Bell were the consistent winners in this era.
