best forehand on open forehand shots (close to table).. well forehand for loop is a different story I think it belongs to Xu Xin or Ryu Seung Min. or Wang Liqin .. can't decide all have insane forehand loops
Han Hao, I would dispute that. I bet even Ma Lin would dare to say he has the best forehand ever. Let me remind you of a few great penholder world champions. Penholders require great footwork and powerful forehands. Liu Guo Liang, Jiang Jia Liang, Guo Yue Hua, Seiji Ono, Mitsuru Kohno, and so on. There are many players with a great forehand but failed to win the WTTC Single Title. To name a few, Ryu Seung Min, Kim Taek Soo, and Ma Lin himself never ascended to the top of the TT world. It is sad that Ma Lin never won the WTTC Single Title.
the hug in the end with wu xingping always makes my eyes full .he was always with ma lin. wu xingping was an epic and uniqe coach like li sun like liu gaoliang ..
@@arminnurkovic7018 The last WTTC Single Champion using the Japanese penhold blade and grip is in the year 1979. They won nothing since then. Something wrong with that blade. It produces a lot of speed but somehow can't win.
ibex Love I agree. Back in those days you had Liu Guoliang, Waldner and Ma Lin that produced unpredictable, tactical shots. These days people play a power game.
The touch is incredible. If you have tried how he suddenly returned the ball in the middle of looping, where the ball bounced more than twice on the table before it went out.
his chop block skill is unique, hope some penholders can learn from him. I haven't seen anyone can play traditional/push bh as good as him. Normally push bh is disadvantageous cos it's not aggressive at all - only push the ball back. But ma lin usually push it to a wide angle to make his opponent chase and return the ball to reduce this weakness. that's why he can beat shakehand players. His tennis IQ is very high and born to be a penhold player.
Two things about Ma Lin's BH. 1. Ma Lin's BH push often comes with very strong backspin, so he is protected not just by the wide angle. 2. When compared with Wang Hao, Ma does not give up traditional BH push completely. It is true there is not much topspin in BH push, but one can achieve very subtle placement with BH push, which sometimes can be very lethal. One thing I don't quite understand about Ma is that he never made good use of RPB. In my opinion, his RPB is quite weak. The spin is strong, but the speed is low.
Push BH has a lot more precision than RBH!! Shakehands despise it when it is used perfectly. Regular push BH has precision block, great placement of balls and less tiring.
This has already surpassed sports itself, it's not playing ball, it's art! The greatest straight board king in the history of table tennis, there is no one !!! 👍👍👍
Le bloc coupé de Ma Lin est hallucinant ! Je ne connaissais que Waldner qui maitrisait ce coup terriblement difficile aussi bien et c'était dans les années 80-90.
Seriously 5:54 is insane the capacity of changing the peace with a spin sacrificing footwork while keeping the options of attack... Ma Lin it's a legend.
please mor signature shots; better than just rallies what about : bolls long range backhand, fzds beast mode points, ovtcharovs quick bh, fergerls blocks, gerells serve+3rd ball attack ?
Pen hold is the best hold for table tennis but its so extremely hard to master. I play it, every time I hit the ball i put spin on it whether I want to or not which makes it very hard for my opponent to be on the attack against me and always very hard for him to respond....i love it....but for every one thousand table tennis players I usually come across one pen holder...and whenever I see this i usually prepare myself for a tough game.
The fucking nostalgia hit me hard in this video. Ma Lin, Wang Liqin, Wang Hao... What an era that was.
Chen Qi
Wang Liqin is such an underrated player! One of the best of his generation.
Them three guys ruled for a decade.
MA Lin is a legend in table tennis. All penhold fans miss him. I love everyone who plays penhold :)
XtremeTableTennis awww I love you too :) .
+XtremeTableTennis I see you under nearly every Ma Lin video existing on RUclips 😂
So you love me too ;-)
Jesus Christ loves you and died for your sins, eveyone sins and deserves hell but Jesus (God) died for our sins paying the price of them, Believe that and you will be Saved
Ma Lin and Xu Xin are still the most entertaining players to watch ever. They're like TT magicians lol
The best forehand and penhold player in history. Unbelievable footwork and insane skill and athleticism. Well Done Ma Lin.

+1
Just look at Ma Long forehand loops :)
wang hao is the penhold master in my opinion

Truly a legend. He's the reason I chose the Penhold grip!
More penholders!
Erick Bartolone I chose the japanese penhold grip because of Ryu seung min.
Same
Me too

Players Like Ma Lin come once in a lifetime

Qsxft Hanes Xu Xin? And yeah partly because of the change in ball.
@@quackingpanda8466 is Xu Xin tricky? Entertaining, yeah, but not tricky!

In China every 5 years though:)
MA lin, wang liqin, wang Hao, Zhang jike, ma long, fan zhendong :)
Ma Lin's over-the-table shot skills make the seemingly impossible look like his routine plays.
Ma Lin's subtlety of his technique is unparallel even till this day.
I love his style. He never seems reluctant to play a drop ball unlike players who prefer to keep on smashing.
I love Ma Long but Ma Lin is more pleasurable to watch. What a showmanship!
The sudden power from his forehand was unreal

Late reply: I believe Ma Lin started using/practicing the RPB quite late so the "weak" nature is expected.

His forehand flick, strong forehand topspin, and tactical backhand skills... all of them is beautiful. To me he is the best "artist" in TT.
권휘진 drive => forehand topspin Korean say Drive because of Japenese.
네, drive in English too.
근데... 영어로 드라이브는 포핸드롱이란 뜻으로 알고있습니다~~
sorry for my bad English :p

Ryu Seung Min should be added to that list .. best footwork and FH ripper
The last traditional Chinese penhold style player, wonderful!
Nope. He Zhi Wen. Still playing, still ahead of lots of well-known top-200's, Kalinikos, Gorak, Robinot (Alexandre), Skachkov...
