I love it when a brother realizes this band is all black! First there's surprise, then one is rooting for them, knowing there's a guitar solo coming and they have to represent. With the iconic riff and nasty guitar solo, Living Color kills it!
You need to check out their song 'Open Letter to a Landlord'. The lead singer, Corey Glover, was also in the movie 'Platoon'. They are still around making great music, too.
This song hit like a grenade when it first hit the airwaves. And you know what, it still has the same effect, perhaps even more today if you listen to the lyrics. Vernon Reid pretty much became a guitar legend the moment he played that opening riff. I actually met Corey Glover once...pretty cool guy and very well read when it came to talking about history. Granted, it was only of ten or fifteen minutes, but it was an awesome ten or fifteen minutes.
Totally agree this song became one of my favourite songs from the first time I heard it back in ‘88 and has never faded in how it hooks me from the opening chords.
I remember when this blasted onto the radio. I still have it on my i-pod! Nobody knew they are black. The lyrics were so prescient, even more appropriate today. Very under-rated bad, IMO.
I loved this song. It was so f@#$ed up. Some, most white stations refused to play them. Not because it was trash, but once they realized they were black. Black stations didn't play it either. It was all r&b, soul & SOME rap @ really late night. If it were for Video Soul, MTV & Arsenio we wouldn't have known about them. Very underrated.
Such a powerful song! Revisit and listen to the History Lyrics and Communist Dictators he brilliantly put into this song. Unfortunately, the strong message was lost because of the badass guitar riffs.
As good as this song is...when you get the message (I didn't really get it for 30 years then heard it a few times lately and suddenly it just clicked) it is twice as good.
They are still together. They just never fit I'm any specific type of music do they never went fully mainstream ... and they are still too far ahead of their time.
Almost 30 years later, and people are still surprised by a black rock band. It makes me kinda sad. People aren't surprised by white rappers anymore, but a black rock band seems to blow everyone's mind. I LOVE this band!!! They fundamentally changed me as a human being (I was on the verge of being a little nazi asshole in my teens, when they first showed up). I thank the universe that they showed me that there was NO FUCKING WAY I could live with prejudice if I was jamming the fuck out to a song that started with a Malcolm X quote.... But I still find it kinda sad that white dudes in hip hop are less shocking than black dudes in rock. I dont know... I just wish we could all do our thing and be appreciated for it in out own time, I guess. Sad to say, thats not the world we live in
But I will give YOU this... YOU'RE the ONLY black reactor I've seen that didn't FREAK THE FUCK OUT about it. You mentioned it in passing a couple times, and just dug the music. Thats why you got my sub, and my support!
Yeah man! Living Color definitely rocks! Great song! Awesome reaction as always! Please react to Alter Bridge "Addicted To Pain" They are freakin amazing! Thank you my friend! You totally rock! Cheers!🍻 Til next time☮ 💥💯🖤🎼🤘
And y'all stuck in "mumble rap"... These guys gave you all an opening to get a REAL message out! Sad to sse 2021 this way with y'all... Y'all coulda done better... Ya'll deserve better, if you open your eyes...
@@dubzer0649 All the people who never gave these guys their rightful due. All the people who never knew this awesome band existed. All the mindless music about drugs & hoes & money, that people worship today. And all who forgot we are being played & preyed upon by those very people who have a "cult of personality". These guys, In Living Color. Public Enemy, etc. (Don't want to make a list). Had music with a message! A good message nonetheless. And the "Y'all" I am talking about, are those that let those messages die on the floor.
Hi Rebecca! Fantastic suggestions! I know for sure all three are on his list! "Black" is one of my favorite songs. I love the haunting power, pain, & passion in Eddie's voice - and the lyrics are gorgeous. I also love Rooster - great song. But, I'm a "Man In The Box" girl. Ha! It's that nasty beat that gets me. You picked 2 of the top 5 grunge bands. You must like a little 90's. 😉
@@rebeccarockchik6704 you're so right - Eddie & Layne have extremely special voices. RIP Layne 🙏 It's so sweet that the guitarist, Jerry I believe, wrote Rooster for his Dad. It was his nickname as a young boy. Super sweet. Can't wait for Karlton to hear these guys & let us know what he thinks. I bet he's gonna love 'em!
Vernon Reid is a living guitar legend.
Man these boys are awesome
And what is so Awesome is Vernon Reid wrote This Song.🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶
Great song.... Sounds so original
Vernon Reid was writing lyrics that would make you rethink your life while the man behind you was in grade school.
Living Color was so underrated! I loved these guys back in the day! ❤️

Excellent Band, Excellent Singer!!!
These dude's jammed. Sorry you didn't know about them, but now that you're awake to them...welcome to the rock out club.

As far as I'm concerned, Living Colour has always been a legendary band in the world of rock. They were definitely ahead of their time.
These boys are pretty awesome
They still are in 2022 people still lose their minds when they see a black rock band.
Hand's down, one of the greatest ( unrecognized) guitarists of ALL time.
He is recognized by other artists but the general public still has no clue.

I liked them because they weren’t defined by skintone. And i liked the rift on bass and guitar. Thats what music is about.
Another great reaction. I absolutely love this song. Living color definitely rocks. And this song definitely makes you think.😀👍❤️✌️🌼
Yes def enjoyed this one
Try Sevendust, especially the song and video "Denial".
Thanks for doing my request. This song/music video is from 1988. Also, the 25 oz. cans are great, they're the only kind I buy these days.
