We couldn't believe what we were seeing and were in AWE of what we were hearing !
When the song ended the tv room erupted in applause and many heartfelt " Hell Yeah's !!! "
Quite a few of us, myself included, stood up, came to attention and Saluted !
This song is truly Epic and Timeless

Vernon Reid, guitarist and frontman for Living Colour, was originally from England, hence the spelling "colour". He came to the US at an early age, and formed the BRC or Black Rock Coalition, which quickly had over 200 members. He picked almost all of Living Colour from members of the BRC. Reid was an avid believer (and he was right) that rock was the evolution of The Blues, and the first rockers were people like Chuck Berry and Fats Domino. He wanted to remind people that rock was invented by black rockers, and music transcends racial barriers. They were playing at CBGB's in New York, when Reid saw Mick Jagger in the front row. Jagger knew real talent when he saw it, and helped them score a record deal. They were a huge hit, the album Vivid which contained this song went double platinum. At the time nobody knew they were black, they just kicked ass and that was all we cared about. Once they made the music video for MTV and appeared on Saturday Night Live, they were actually shunned by many in the black community because they were singing hard rock not rap. They continued to gain popularity among those who didn't care about their color, and they've had great careers. Living Colour is #70 on the top 100 hard rock groups, and Reid is somewhere around #85 of the top 100 rock guitarists. Most of the band had college degrees in music.
This song was actually about politics, and not following politicians blindly because they make flowery promises. That's why he does show JFK, Stalin, Mussolini, Hitler, and other dynamic political figures.Listen to the words carefully, there's a hell of a message in there.

He’s got the body glove wetsuit. Got the dangling earring. Just need the combat boots. That was a fit back then. Definitely late 80’s. A lot of substance. “I exploit you, still you love me.” We love following personalities. History is proof. Good or bad, we always watch the personality the most, and know so little about ourselves. Deep shit, bro.

I highly suggest you get into Living Colour. They were too underrated--never got as popular as they should have for how good they actually were. Corey Glover is amazing on vocals. Vernon Reid is a best on guitar. I believe Wimbush was the drummer and bassist's name skips my mind. Dig fully into VIvid (their debut), Times Up ( their follow up), and if you want a more experimental sound then their 3rd album Stain was pretty darn good. After those three they kind of fell off from public view so unless you knew they did more albums you wouldn't know they were still putting out new material. They got some good stuff on the newer material though...so its not a bad idea to keep up with them.

I believe these guys are still touring. Many people are too young to have been around in 1990s or to be familiar with the band LIVING COLOUR.. These guys won a couple of Grammys, Best Hard Rock Performance, Best New Artist, and a MTV Video Music Award (for this MTV video) too. Thats pretty immpressive especially since blacks (as a full band) were few in this particular genre.

This jam has amazing energy, but most important is the message coming from it. Check out Open Letter (To A Landlord) by Living Colour. Love to get your reaction. Thanks.

Cory still sounds the same! Of course the band is much older, but they sound just as good, if not better than they did back then! Fun fact: That yellow suit he wore was in style back then and came in other colors. He was a fan of the X-Men comic book character, Wolverine so he wore the yellow for the video.

I dont know a huge amount about the band but I've heard alot of people talk about the guitarist being fantastic but the band was never super popular so he didn't get as much recognition as he deserved.
