    Michael Johnson became the only man in history to win the 200m and the 400m gold medals at a single Olympics at the Atlanta Games in 1996.
    Johnson set Olympic record times in both events (19.32 in the 200m and 43.49 in the 400m) as he took both gold medals.

    Here after Noah Lyles broke the 200m American record. Amazing that it stood for that long, a true testament to Johnson’s greatness. Imagine what he could have done with modern training

    I don't think enough people are appreciating that usually sprinting world records (with the exception of Flo Jo and this one) are normally marginal improvements less than 0.05 of a second. This guy destroyed the WR a magnitude of 7x that

    My name is Michael Johnson and I literally ran the 400 because of him in 8th grade I ran it in 1:06 and my coach said I'd never live up to my name and I kept believing and wanting to be as great as he was...by my senior year in high school I had a PR of 46.8 and had won state in the Open 400 twice and won state in the 4x400 three times....he was and is my inspiration, although I never got as fast as him I still tried to live up to his greatness and it brought out the best in me and yeah he's by far my favorite athlete by far, don't give up on your dreams and also strive to be Elite!!!!

      Well, if you are comparing it to the 100m times, in the 100m you have to accelerate through much of it but in the 400m you run a much higher percentage of the race at full speed.

    Best finisher I've ever seen in the 200m and 400m. I just remember before he ran the 200m Final, I was jumping outta my chair in my room by myself yelling at the tv like I was in the stadium as a teenager😃 That was a HUGE moment in time when smashed his own 200m record. Great memories.

    Like others, I’m here after Lyles run. As I was watching MJ run though I couldn’t help but notice all the camera flashes throughout the stadium, and realized that magical era, like many others, has pretty much come and gone.

    This is my favorite video on RUclips :) Brings a smile to my face every time I watch it. I am a high school Junior and I am a sprinter/mid distance runner just like M. Johnson. He is my inspiration and role model, and it has gotten me very far in the sport. Planning on being in Rio 2016 Olympics!

      Milo Tucker except it’s not, at least not traditionally. It’s a very upright form that you would never teach. But it worked for Michael. I guess you could say it was perfect for him.

    I've always loved the sprints and the greats including Michael Johnson and after reading his book " Slaying The Dragon " it took my respect to a whole new level of what it takes to achieve your dreams ... Never seen such a precise blueprint to greatness

      Kara McConniel bolt would win 200 in a 400 johnson would catch up to bolt. johnson gains more stamina/power down wind for about 2 minutes very strong.

    I watched it live on TV when I was 9 years old and my dad told me that we had witnessed history. A night to remember. And I remember all of this to this very day as if it was only yesterday.

    Still my favourite 400m runner. Amazing that Bolt and WVN have broken these times since but neither have matched the fluid running style of MJ.

    Man those iconic gold shoes! I think to me it's more impressive than Usain's because when this happened, I was a little 4 year old, who didn't know anyone could ever run that fast! With Usain, it's impressive, but being much older now, you know it's possible! Great to see Johnson giving Usain props though!

      Usain is also not as impressive because Bolt is so tall. Just like watching a dunk contest, a tall guys dunks dont look as good as the smaller mans.

    I used to run for my local athletes club participating in cross country and became 1st in my town and 11th in my county which is why I've so much admiration for this guy because I know the measures towards his dedication to competing with all those hours days weeks months and years he's put into becoming the all time number one we're probably never going to see ever again
