A 50 was one of the tractors I operated as a teen on my Dad's WI dairy farm in the 60s. Sounded very familiar. Also ran a B, a 730 and Ford 8N bought when I was one year old.
Well done and thank you. I have my grandfathers 1968 IH 504D that I restored after it was flooded under 5' of water. Hope to add a 50 to 70 series John Deere to the shed one day. You saved and made a great looking tractor.
My wife and I bought a small 6 acre farm 4 years ago. My parents are bringing me my Grampa's old tractor that he use to take my brother and I rides on when we were really little... I found out it was a 1953 JD 50.. and pretty much the same way my Grampa had it.. I will have to buy a seat cause I was told it was missing and I remember it bein in bad shape when I was maybe 8 years old.. (im 50 now) I was told its just the cushions missing. Im putting yellow on it to avoid burns on my legs in the hot sun.. But I cant wait to see it... I honestly dont remember the last time I laid eyes on it. Maybe 35 years ago or so and even then it was buried in a barn and could only see the back end of it.. I guess the tin is in really good condition but was told it has a lot of surface rust.. My step dad said ""it has its work clothes on"".... I think the hardest part for me will be not to tear up when I see it pull into the drive way... My Grampa was special to me and this is just a peace of our memories that I will be able to share with my family..
Like eanmoon50 says, the manual is a good place to start. Just start searching around the web. Yesterday's Tractors is a good place to go. Lots to wade through! Also, try to find a 2-cylinder guy in your area to talk tractors with.
Very nice 50. I'm doing lots of mechanical work on my '53 JD 50. I had the entire front half of the tractor apart and now I'm on the rear. I just rebuilt my PTO clutch & put new seals in the PTO pump. I've got some electrical issues. I noticed that you turned your switch one click. On my machine it makes no difference if the switch is turned or not, it still starts. And I then have no way to kill it other than choke it out. I've got a parts manual and IT manual. I am at a loss. As far as I can figure I've got all hooked up according to the wiring diagrams. I also noticed your amperes show + on the dial. Mine shows slightly negative as it runs. Perhaps that is a polarity issue only generator ? I've got videos on my RUclips channel. If you could - I would appreciate your insight / opinions on these things.
I'm currently restoring my grandfather's 1954 JD 50. It been repainted, and I don't know which filler hole the engine oil goes in, or which is hydraulic or transmission lube. Any help?
i've always loved john deere, and i finally have a 50 to call my own. out of curiosity, where would you suggest i go to find information about the ins and outs of the tractor. Thanks!
Where i can get the 3 point hitch?...can you use a tiller with that?..i found a really nice 50 with loader .very cheap..that i may buy want to know what other implements i can use

Same timeframe for me but in South Dakota. My older brother took over after our dad passed in 72 and he sold it for some reason. Moron.

I have a 1952 JD 50 my grandfather bought for me before I was 10 years old. Still have it today. You could run for days on a tank of gasoline.

Love the sound of a JD twin.
We have a restored '47 B and I sure wish it had power steering! Thanks.
Nice 50. Thanks for the video I enjoyed it.
Gotta get my dad's ole 50 goin again, miss that sound, ours is rear exhaust.
Looks good! Hopefully one day I will restore mine. She is in decent shape, but still has her working clothes on.
That's Awesome!
