    Thank you so much for this detailed video. You didn’t just tell us what to do you showed us as you talked about it. That’s the best way I learn. Long story short my dad just passed away unexpectedly and over the summer we started talking about writing down all of the maintenance things I need to know about our tractors. Well that didn’t get to happen and I’m so glad I stumbled across your video because I now feel confident that I can keep these tractors running for decades to come. We have an M, 50 and 630.

    Thanks for performing the fluid changes. I didn't understand the first reduction gear drain and refill on my 70, but this greatly helps! Thanks!!

    Thank you so much. I have a very very late model b and honestly it seems that it is more like the numbered series than the lettered. The serial number is, I'm pretty sure, 310,453. Again thank you for the thorough information with no excessive rambling.

    Nice tractor and good video. You might want to check out the WIX 51242 oil filter for this tractor. In my opinion it is better quality and less cost than John Deere's and comes with the rubber gasket.

    Ok, 1. Always open the compartment full cap first, makes draining happen faster.
    2. Always replace the oil filter o-ring, they come with the filter, might as well.

    I just changed my transmission fluid. The JD dealer sold me HyGuard transmission fluid which is close in weight to 10w30. Why did they recommend it when you use 80w90?

    • @oakwoodstockfarm7017
      @oakwoodstockfarm7017  Год назад

      Unfortunately a lot of the dealership employees aren’t very familiar with the old two cylinder tractors…. I just follow the original operators manual which calls for 80w90

    I have a John Deere 50 and it only has one fill plug near the pto where the transmission fill plug is on yours. Im finding out its a standard pto and not a live pto. Would that mean that the pto uses the same oil bath as the transmission? Thanks

    Excellent video. I ended up tearing my bottom cap apart. There was lots of sludge build up. Have you ever flushed case with kerosene?

    • @oakwoodstockfarm7017
      @oakwoodstockfarm7017  3 года назад +1

      The sludge in this tractor was never bad so we haven’t had to flush it out. The best thing for em is to work it hard and change the oil frequently, letting the oil filter do it’s thing

    • @johnsparks007
      @johnsparks007 2 года назад

      I've used the mixture of kerosene to flush my system out crankcase and PTO clutch. No trouble at all. I've also used synthetic oil I've heard that they break down seals but I have not had any problems so far and it's been 15 years

    • @garvindreis
      @garvindreis 11 месяцев назад

      I have used diesel to clean the sludge out, just add a quart and some of the designated oil and run for a bit to make sure it splatters every where in the crank case, or straight diesel every where else and run in gear for a bit to work its way through, then drain

    • @dadigitechman
      @dadigitechman 3 месяца назад

      I left the fuel valve open on the sediment bowl and flushed the crank case with gasoline.

    • @oakwoodstockfarm7017

      Manual calls for 1 qt. It shares gear oil with the transmission so no need to put more in it

    Just curious. Tractor data says it takes 8 quarts of oil. I see that it shows full at 7. I’m just wondering if 7 is like low full ? Have you ever used 8 quarts ?

    • @oakwoodstockfarm7017
      @oakwoodstockfarm7017  2 года назад

      The operator manual shows 7 qts for capacity and that’s when it shows full by running out of the test cock. I wouldn’t rely on tractor data over the JD manual
