    Sometimes I just sit back and enjoy the mastery of acting, without casting my own personal opinions and critiques. Very well done Mr. Mansfield.

    I can hardly speak english so i hope you'll understand what i'll say. You, sir, deserve the hugest ovation of the year for this. Not only your acting and speech but also all your answers when people are being bad with your work. You're an exemple for the people and - i'm not commenting often - want to say THANKS YOU for being you and giving us this lesson.
    If Lincoln's soul can see all of us, i'm sure he's proud of what you did. Have a nice day.

    Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, there is no makeup. That is the way I look all the time except for the vest and bow tie. I was a tourist that day & since I was at a Lincoln site I decided to go as Lincoln. Students studying history came by & ask if I would say the Gettysburg Address & let them film it. When I was sent me a copy they encouraged me to put it on RUclips. Sometime before long I hope to video this address again to see how I might present it now.

    Don't forget he was from Kentucky. Which I believe you will find was a southern state although they did side with the Union during the war. I was born and raised only 40 miles from where Lincoln was born so I may have come by the accent naturally. Thanks for watching and for the comment.

    Thanks. I feel like Lincoln was a man of deep emotions and I am sure I do not come close to expressing them. Each time I present this it becomes more meaningful and real to me. To hear the Gettysburg address in a monotone does not ring true to Lincoln, the times, or the event.

    You are probably right that Lincoln spoke more slowly, I need to work on that. Thanks, John

  • @Darbimus
    @Darbimus 12 лет назад

    I would imagine, though I could be wrong beings how I wasn't even thought of during Abraham's time, that he would have spoken slower and more sincerely. This was current in his time and a VERY serious matter. Think of 9/11 and the victims and maybe you can better relate to the sadness/strong will of the situation. Lincoln was sad that people died, but the difference was they did it for a better America in his opinion. Still a great reenactment and much better than I could do. Thank you.

    I've read the Everett speech, it is actually an excellent address if a bit mellow dramatic for modern tastes. An excellently detailed defense of the Union cause. Lincoln did speak well of it.

  • @jeAbemansfield
    @jeAbemansfield  11 лет назад +2

    The introduction, of course, was not Lincoln's words. But the Gettysburg Address was. I feel today we need to know a little about how things were during those difficult times in order to really grasp the feeling of the moment.

    Mr. Mansfield your delivery of my favorite speech of all time was absolutely superb, thank you for choosing to upload it and share it with us sir.
    Additionally, I have been reading the comments on this video and while you have been receiving some of the most vitriolic and petty comments I have seen on RUclips, you've handled absolutey every one you have responded to with a level of humbleness and grace unheard of on RUclips, at least in my experience. You are an inspiration. Thank you sir.

    Lincoln lived and died before recording technology. But it seems that he DID have a high tenor voice...that he learned to make the most of... AND that he also had a pronounced Kentucky accent that he often worried would make problems for him.

    This I have heard also. Maybe before long I can do this again to see if I can get closer although I know I will never get close enough. One thing that I have a hope for, in our new world and life after this one is over, is that I will be able to view Lincoln's life - like having a replay room so we can see and know how things actually were. And maybe even watch it with him and let him see some of my
    feeble attempts at "being Lincoln."

  • @jeAbemansfield
    @jeAbemansfield  12 лет назад +1

    @ListWritingMachine "He" did not say that. This was a 21st. century Lincoln looking back and quoting only the Address delivered at Gettysburg.

    Of course it is his own rendition of Lincoln, but it is reasonable to suggest that Lincoln himself spoke slowly (unlike John in this video).

    @2spiritfulkids It would be interesting in heaven to have (for lack of a better term) a replay room where we would be able to replay Lincoln's life and watch what actually happened and what he did and to know his real motives, etc. We, hopefully, would be able to see how the Almighty had his hand in the events of the time also. And then those of us who present Lincoln could see how close, or far, we were from understanding the man and the time.

  • @jeAbemansfield

    Reckon it could be because he was a southern boy, born and raised to almost eight years of age in the slave state of Kentucky.

    Wow, this totally rules! This is how I imagine Lincoln to have sounded and looked. I wrote a poem about the Gettysburg Address and it's on my channel--I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on it.
    There's a direct translation of the Gettysburg Address to every generation of Americans that ever were and ever will be--the Americans who came before us, military and civilian, have consecrated this hallowed ground and it is our duty to dedicate our lives that this nation might live.
