I have learned a lot about Lincoln and the Civil War from this professor. He has a wonderful ability to infuse major historical events and participants therein with the richness and value they deserve. Quite emotional for me.

I think that this must be the greatest presentation I’ve ever heard on the subject. Dr. Guelzo is a national treasure in his own right.

I agree. He would probably make an excellent presidential candidate. His grasp on American history is second to none and you should here him speak about current issues and how he puts everything in a historical context. It’s quite dazzling.

The first time I heard him speak, I was not a fan and thought he had a Frasier Crane-esque quality about him. The more I hear him, the more I appreciate his ability to speak.

I've read about a letter he wrote just before he was assassinated where he discusses trying to find a minister to give him his First Communion who wouldn't use it for self promotion.

    To the Professor,
What say you to the Republican Party now as regards to President Lincoln. Do they follow his lead or no?

Another thing that Jefferson opposed on constitutional grounds until HE found it necessary was the establishment of the US Military Academy.

I remember it because it was an alternative to serving detention in junior high..... write 5 copies of which ever page they assigned for the day, turn it in that morning no detention after school...... carbon paper was very helpful 😉

Yet, who has the contracts for controls on pump stations reclaiming water in Broward county? A Canadian Jamaican owned manufacturing company that's who. No wonder we have to boil the water. We have politicians that are driving Toyota's. Remember America

It should be remembered that, generally speaking, Bismack's Prussia, Tsarist Russia and the King of Siam, favored the Union.

So it was a myth that he wrote that great speech in the train en route to Gettysburg? Good to know that it has been debunked.

Imagine if Nancy Pelosi was there she would have torn up the copy of the address. Think about that.

Democracy was not decided at Gettysburg - federal power of overreach was. Lincoln knew it too well. If the fed could take away the economic viability of any state, or commercial enterprise on the whim of political pressure alone - was this justice and due process? Lincoln had rolled the dice accordingly - betting it all on the question if democracy itself would survive the upheaval created by cold turkey abolition. Did it? If the 5 fed agencies that control wetlands issued a final rule today making all original wetland hydric soils as regulated WOTUS (waters of the US) - regardless of historic farm drainage tile conversion - would you accept that the loss of 25% of our farmland would result in many going hungry? If an agency ruled all original forest land and prairie must be restored how would that grab you?
