  • On today's episode, Dr. Jaime interviews psychologist, consultant and author of the best-selling book, "Never Binge Again", Dr. Glenn Livingston!
Glenn Livingston, Ph.D. is a veteran psychologist and was the long time CEO of a multi-million dollar consulting firm which has serviced several Fortune 500 clients in the food industry. You may have seen his (or his company's) previous work, theories, and research in major periodicals like The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Sun Times, The Indiana Star Ledger, The NY Daily News, American Demographics, or any of the other major media outlets you see on this page. You may also have heard him on ABC, WGN, and/or CBS radio, or UPN TV.
Disillusioned by what traditional psychology had to offer overweight and/or food obsessed individuals, Dr. Livingston spent several decades researching the nature of bingeing and overeating via work with his own patients AND a self-funded research program with more than 40,000 participants. Most important, however, was his own personal journey out of obesity and food prison to a normal, healthy weight and a much more lighthearted relationship with food.

42:15 - the word relapse implies that there is a disease, yet earlier you used the word 'recovery' which is synonymous with addiction which is a disease. a bit of a contradiction because this isn't so clear-cut.

@45:18 good observation - yes true! Why is that?? I would say that is subjective. Some people can resist a temptation if it's in front of them or knowing they have some available vs someone who can't resist it. Not sure what mix of neuro-biochemistry is involved.
Personally, if I know I have that food or drink (like diet coke ) - I may not have any for days at a time. This may be due to the dopamine hit from the anticipatory aspect of getting what you don't have. But then having it, anticipation is not as strong. This is supported by a uranalysis showing a decrease in concentration of that and related neurotransmitters when subjects believed they have achieved their goal (ie; successful procurement of falsely perceived, limited survival substance)
