It's definitely great to see a reaction that's more than just "wow, that's a crazy noise they made." I've genuinely enjoyed her breaking down metal music and talking about the skill, techniques, and musical theory used in these songs. I feel she was surprised herself at first, breaking down these songs, that it's more than just noise, it's talented musicians making music they love, and she caught the bug.

This is mainly to the fact that they strictly dont produce anything they cant do live. As Attila said, "If we cant do any part live, you wont hear it from us." Every song they make is focused on playability in their concerts. For "Army of the night", he needed to adapt to another breathing technique to make it work. And it worked, as nearly no fan can sing this at the concerts because they would faint bcs of air.

The whole time I was thinking part of the melody seemed so familiar, wrecking my head over where I'd heard it before: it's Nena's 1984 hit "Irgendwie, Irgendwo, Irgendwann" ("Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime" in the English version) that shares part of the chorus sequence! Not saying they stole it (there's just so many possible melodies in western tonality) but as a German band I'm sure it lived in the back of their heads when writing this.

It might be a bit difficult since they disbanded a few years ago, but their singer has an extensive theater background and it gave the band (especially their first album) a really unique and almost haunting sound. Definitely worth a listen, even if you can't do a reaction!

Basically playing the whole S\self-titled FALCONER debut through would be worth consideration... :))) My favorite off it is "Lord of the Blacksmiths" - such a catchy rhythmic tune with great vox and the heaviest Metal instrument used in the chorus... you fellow fans will know! \m/ That sound is impossible to miss, and I kind of do not want to spoil. ;) Wait, some church bells actually weigh (literally) a ton, so the instrument FALCONER did use must be the 2nd heaviest, lol!
Also, concerning later FALCONER opuses - long time favorites to suggest would have to include "The Clarion Call", "Dreams and Pyres", and "Svarta Ankan" ("The Black Widow")... Maybe, one day, Elizabeth gets to do tea (or better, a collab?) with Mathias Blad.

I love how you're enjoying this power metal rabbithole! Your interview with Hansi was just such an amazing couple of hours. I can't say enough how much Battle Beast and their singer Noora Louhimo fits neatly into this arc. Here in Finland, music is taught from year one at school alongside languages so there's an extensive degree of musical fluency here and many musicians with technical competence that might not have discovered their range of abilities if introduced to music at a later age. Either that or you could look at it as the musical "muscle" is developed from an early age where its use becomes most natural like riding a bike. Battle Beast have a bunch of music videos around RUclips such as "Eye Of The Storm" which is straight power metal pop, however their older track "Straight To The Heart" as part of the Tuska Utopia series, filmed live in a forest during the pandemic is a perfect slice of how they sound live, and how Noora's voice is just an absolute powerhouse! Operatic, but with a very Bonnie Tyler-esque sort of husky tonality to her voice and 10x more powerful in delivery. Amazing to witness firsthand in the front row as well!

Where The Wild Wolves Have Gone and Sacramental Sister are more super duper uper great songs of theirs that I just love. The vocals on the chorus is just gorgeous. Atilla has a crazy powerful and mesmerizing voice.
Major Edit: new favorite No Prayer At Midnight. Also a must

One of my favourite Attila moments in a concert was, when he held an "ah" (the consonant) waiting for everyone to join, in then waiting for everyone to run out of breath, while still holding, keeps going and ends it with the powerwolf characteristic argh and then laughing at us.

You have to do Resurrection by Erection by them (the old version is slightly better than the new one, but they are similar enough not to be a problem). It's one of their most amazing songs.

And an amazingly clever song too, in their tongue-in-cheek way, which is a real bonus. Whoever only "hears" the chorus misses out on some pretty deep, though humorous, lines!

Suggestion time! Red Handed Denial - “Father Said” (Lauren Babic live one take performance) Much more recent version of Lauren who can sing beautifully and scream with the best of them. The lyrics are very personal to her too and is worth listening for both her voice and the story.

On a side note, I couldn't see any Hammerfall songs on here yet, so I would like to suggest them. Joacim Cans has an amazing voice in my opinion. Perhaps songs like Last Man Standing or Always Will Be, but I'd also be interested to see what other people think.

there is something about Classical music and power metal that just fits so well together. Metallica basically started it with the SFO, but Powerwolf, Nightwish, Imperial Age and others have ran with the ball.

I first came across a Powerwolf video about 10 years ago and the first thing that grabbed me was Attila’s vocals. The raw power and control I had rarely heard in metal for decades. I was impressed, but was like, “but yeah can he sound that good live and keep up that power throughout a concert?”.
Then I started finding live performances by Powerwolf and I was really impressed how he could sound exactly like this live. They really put on a show, but most impressive was Attila’s ability to move a crowd, from giving the audience voice lesson on Armata Strigoi is really entertaining. He can really command a crowd and get them fired up throughout an entire show.
All of the theatrics are amazing. Everything from the stage design, completely decked out in gothic architecture, which has gotten more elaborate as they have become more successful. The makeup, custom made instruments and everything they do is designed to really put on a show. You can see that they really put in a real effort to entertain their audiences.
I’d pay to see Powerwolf any day and I’m 62, but unfortunately they have never toured the US. I believe I saw where they were going to be in NY for a concert last year, but not an entire US tour, just NY. I like Powerwolf, but I live in Florida and am not willing to make a trip to NY just to see them. Maybe one day they’ll do an entire US tour, hitting all of the major cites? I’d love to go see them once.

I got into this band more and more over the last 12-18 months, and everything they release just blows my goddamn mind! Then I learned they're doing a very, VERY limited tour of 2 dates in Canada (Montreal) and US (NYC). It's roughly a 16-17 hour drive from where we live, we're making it down to NYC because there's no way in hell we're missing this, since it's the very first time they'll be playing in North America!

Despite what others say, I always felt that Peter Steele had operatic bass ability. When he spoke off microphone, his voice was still quite resonant and in the lower 2nd octave like mine. It is always an honor to see someone covering a voice that really has potential on and off the microphone!

Karsten Brill aka "Attila Dom" is a powerful vocalist and suits this type of music perfectly. This truly is some fun music for the Charismatic Voice audience. Great choice and insightful commentary. Germany really does have some great rock music artists. For some reason, perhaps costumes, PW reminds me of Norway's Dimmu Borgir which is a symphonic black metal band that started same year as PW. Mr. Brill is indeed one of the most powerful vocalists in any musical genre.

For another option for power metal, I have a suggestion. Lovebites. I only started listening to them recently myself, but they are an all woman power metal band from Japan, very fast and energetic, and their lead guitarist studied classical piano first, and sometimes demonstrates that skill with a grand piano onstage. Also, they took their name from a Halestorm song, one that the singer chose when she auditioned to join the band.
