- I'm convinced that if you put Karsten "Atilla" Brill on an opera stage, he would absolutely slay it. We're checking out one of Powerwolf's new releases following their European and US Tour announcement, and I'm once again digging that epic sound they so easily put together!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Powerwolf performing "My Will Be Done" for the first time.

I think Elizabeth’s transformation into a metalhead is complete by now.
She’s wearing metal shirts. She finds genuine joy in it. She’s a metalheas for sure 🤘
*duikmans*
Another warrior in the army of immortals. Another one has seen the light! I think we 're winning!
If not, I believe we just watched her break into a dead sprint for the finish line
@@peterwalls-qf7ii We've been winning for centuries, it's just taking a while for everyone else to realize it.
She looks like she likes metal. I thought she was a metal head actually. lol
It's been a privilege to have seen your interest in rock and metal grow over the last two years.
It's definitely great to see a reaction that's more than just "wow, that's a crazy noise they made." I've genuinely enjoyed her breaking down metal music and talking about the skill, techniques, and musical theory used in these songs. I feel she was surprised herself at first, breaking down these songs, that it's more than just noise, it's talented musicians making music they love, and she caught the bug.
"we will follow your career with great interest" ? :P
Atilla is one of those people that can basically sing anything and it still comes out like a masterpiece
Given how entirely silly his usual subject matter is, and how fucking awesome it turns out, I'm inclined to agree.
No way. He'd look like a complete fool doing Attila from Mayhem for example.
As heard in their song Resurection by Erection. I laugh when hearing that song because at heart i'm still 12.
🕯️🐺🤘🕯️
I AM A EVIL BRAZILIAN AND CAN'T UNDERSTAND ENGLISH LANGUAGE !
MY REACTION TO ANY SONGS TO BE ZERO 😭😭😭
I remember a time when Elisabeth was constantly surprised by the quality of composition and execution in metal. These days, she just enjoys it. She is now truly one of us.
One of us! One of us! One of us!
Went to my first Powerwolf concert at the end of November - Atilla's Voice doesn't change at all between live and studio, it's so impressive.
I saw them in London and that was my first time seeing them live, and it won't be my last!
And their last tour was only even more spectacular, I think they even used more pyro and scenography than the last time 2 years ago (aka before covid ;)) :)
This is mainly to the fact that they strictly dont produce anything they cant do live. As Attila said, "If we cant do any part live, you wont hear it from us." Every song they make is focused on playability in their concerts. For "Army of the night", he needed to adapt to another breathing technique to make it work. And it worked, as nearly no fan can sing this at the concerts because they would faint bcs of air.
they're awesome live.
@@kaygeehimself9027Hi, I'm a new fan, and that about him changing his breathing for that song sounds awesome to me! Could you tell me more about that or maybe link an interview with him where he said that? I'd be very grateful!
I am waiting for the announcement of a Tea Time interview with Atilla! Love his voice work and love seeing powerwolf on your channel!
'Alive or Undead' is in my opinion the greatest showcase for this man's powerful voice
Definitely That or let there be night, both are outstanding showcases of his voice.
Werewolves of armenia and dancing with the dead is great too for this
agree
Yes, let’s start the year with a happy opera singer and some fun music.
Let's hope Rhapsody comes soon. E will have a smile from hear to hear all show long!
Attila's voice is a raw force of nature. And it's sculpted to perfection at the same time. And still everything feels so effortless. It's always a pleasure to listen. He doesn't sound one bit weaker live on stage, it's incredible. When does this guy breathe?! Thank God I live in Germany and can see them from time to time.
The ending with credits reminds me: they have been doing a lot of orchestral versions to their songs. Playing the two versions together is extremely epic!
Check out the Songbreakers Work Bench on youtube!
@@Amen_and_Attack_81 ye
They combine them and blends em
It’s amazing
@@Amen_and_Attack_81 I’ll have to check them out! I’ve been combining them myself, but I’ll give them a listen!
OMFG! FINALLY! Please have Atilla for an interview!!!
Atila did study Classical Opera singing in Bukurest, Romania. Even met his band members there in Sigisoara. (at least that's what Wikipedia says about them)
More Powerwolf? Yes, please! I'll need it to pick me up after a mind numbing day. Tis gonna be a great one.
✔️💯🐺🤘
This review was my first introduction to Powerwolf. Just bought Interludium. Blown away and totally addicted. Thank you to all the people that recommended this to be reviewed on the charismatic voice and thank you Elizabeth for reviewing it. 🤘
I think you might be interested to check out Powerwolf's ballads. "Where the Wild Wolves Have Gone" & "Alive or Undead"
AHHHHHH YOU'RE DOING POWERWOLF AGAIN YAYYYY!!!!
Ahem. I'm okay. Just very pleased that my favorite reaction/analysis channel is covering one of my favorite bands again!!! Please do _Alive or Undead_ one day? It's one of their rare ballads and absolutely gorgeous, and Attila outdoes himself in singing it. You really will love it, I think.
YES PLEASE!!! 😍
💜👏👏
Powerwolf is my favorite band so I'm constantly hoping that you'll make a new video about them 😅
I'm hyped!
Anyone else here absolutely hyped for the video?! ✋
MEEE!
hypeee i love powerwolf and this song is so amazing
@@TheCharismaticVoice Elizabeth if you looked at your chat often and not the folks in your Patreon, I have told you about Metal Opera singers. There's lots.
The people in your Patreon are willfully ignorant.
Jarkko Ahola, Veronica from FleshGod Apocalypse, Dianne Van Giersbergen.
Tony Kakko is a Power Metal tenor with a similar vocal range to Mike Mills.
Us poors know more about Metal than the willfully ignorant people who orbit Patreon.
Always!
YES!!
I always enjoy Powerwolf. May I suggest doing "Armata Strigoi" by them next? :)
I want to see her do SO many Powerwolf songs. XD
She’d HAVE to watch the live version
This !!!
I mean, i dont really need you to tell me that my favourite Band is awesome, but i just love getting your professional Opinion on one of my all time favourite Songs. Love it. If you could do a Analysis of a Orden Ogan Song one Day, that would be amazing too. Thank you for your Work, keep it up!
My favorite band too! 🕯️🐺🤘🕯️
Heart of the Android is an excellent one!
The whole time I was thinking part of the melody seemed so familiar, wrecking my head over where I'd heard it before: it's Nena's 1984 hit "Irgendwie, Irgendwo, Irgendwann" ("Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime" in the English version) that shares part of the chorus sequence! Not saying they stole it (there's just so many possible melodies in western tonality) but as a German band I'm sure it lived in the back of their heads when writing this.
I agree! I stumbled across this as well.
Oh you are right! I have never heard about that song, but I can hear it, nice
THANK YOU!
Damn, now i can´t unhear it
I remember having a similar 'ah ha!' moment with Alestorm's "Scraping the Barrel", the vocal melody in the chorus is almost identical to the guitar melody about half-way through Iron Maiden's "The Prophecy". Although in that case if it was stolen it'd be thematically on point for the song at least...
I would LOVE to see your reaction to Venom of Venus from powerwolf!!! It’s so amazing, I think you’ll absolutely love it
me too^^
Power Elizabeth meets Power Atilla and his Power wolves...so full Power ahead and letsgettoit 🦾🎶 🎶👉👀🧠
Saw them live in November in Frankfurt, on my birthday, and they're just even more amazing live. Attila's voice is so powerful, it felt even more powerful at the live performance. Of course the rest of the band played absolutely fantastic as well and the show was amazing too. Definitely not our last Powerwolf concert.
Well, that sounds like you got the best birthday present ever.
My BF and I were there too! Amazing concert. Only thing that would have been even more nice: 30 minutes more of them performing XD
@@Hellbane224 it definitely was my very best birthday present so far and I love my fiance for gifting me the tickets for both of us.
I was at that show. Even better than when I saw them with Iron Maiden earlier in the year.
I went to that exact show in Frankfurt at Jahrhunderthalle, too and I definetly have to agree!! I also saw them open for Iron Maiden earlier in 2022 in Frankfurt (Deutsche Bank Park) as well which I also enjoyed, also this is a great birthday present!!
They're so good live too! I was PUMPED when I went home :D
Oh mate you should try not going home and just chilling all night in a festival it’s out of this world
There are a handful of bands that sound precisely like their name would suggest. Powerwolf is one of them. Well done as always!
Attila sounds exactly the same on stage as on the records, he is insanely good. Up there as one of the best voices in metal right now for sure.
Similarly to Atilla being a 'different kind' of vocalist, I'd love it if you could take a look at a Falconer song, maybe Upon the Grave of Guilt or Mindtraveller. It might be a bit difficult since they disbanded a few years ago, but their singer has an extensive theater background and it gave the band (especially their first album) a really unique and almost haunting sound. Definitely worth a listen, even if you can't do a reaction!
Falconer is a band I haven’t seen someone mention in a while. Thank you for reminding me they are/were a thing.
Portals of Light is a personal favorite song by them. But I agree I think she would enjoy his voice
Basically playing the whole S\self-titled FALCONER debut through would be worth consideration... :))) My favorite off it is "Lord of the Blacksmiths" - such a catchy rhythmic tune with great vox and the heaviest Metal instrument used in the chorus... you fellow fans will know! \m/ That sound is impossible to miss, and I kind of do not want to spoil. ;) Wait, some church bells actually weigh (literally) a ton, so the instrument FALCONER did use must be the 2nd heaviest, lol!
Also, concerning later FALCONER opuses - long time favorites to suggest would have to include "The Clarion Call", "Dreams and Pyres", and "Svarta Ankan" ("The Black Widow")... Maybe, one day, Elizabeth gets to do tea (or better, a collab?) with Mathias Blad.
Omg Falconer!, loved that band. Would also love to see a reaction :D
Because you mentioned the video production quality - this was done by VDPICTURES and they always deliver amazing visuals. Once you have seen a few you can tell from the start who was responsible for the visuals. There's a reason why almost all Lord of the Lost videos are produced by them, but also Faun, and a number of other European metal bands.
Only discovering Powerwolf. Hey, great name. That's what got my attention naturally. ;) Atilla definitely has an operatic performance quality to his performance. Definitely has a strong, powerful voice with a fine quality to it. A good blend of clear and powerful with gritty and edgy. Definitely, there is an operatic storytelling vibe to the video. I will be sure to check out more from this band.
I first hear Powerwolf from car radio driving quite late. Sanctified with Dynamite did refresh me a bit and looked for more Powerful when home :)
Doesn't Attila actually have his musical background in opera?
I think he enjoyed a education in operatic singing.
I read that the band says that he was studying Opera in Romania. It certainly shows in his voice and presentation.
His voice reminds me of Disturbed’s lead singer. David Draiman.
Good point. Another trained voice in Rock.
Powerwolf is suuuuuccchh a good band I LOVE THEM they are the best
Had the luck to see them live in July; their on-stage performance is absolutely amazing ! Atilla's voice feel even more powerful when you have him a few meters from you 🤩🤘
What a way to start the new year. An amazing song by one of my favorite bands. Your commentary is enlightening as usual and doggonit you're looking just extra amazing today.
To answer the title: YES!!! That's why Atilla is so perfect for the type of music the're making. My birthfather passed away in September, but I would be HAPPY if Dorn would take up the honorary mantle.
I love how happy and energetic you are in your videos. It radiates out and floods my brain.
Keep up your great work please!
Thank you very much.
One of my favourite Attila moments in a concert was, when he held an "ah" (the consonant) waiting for everyone to join, in then waiting for everyone to run out of breath, while still holding, keeps going and ends it with the powerwolf characteristic argh and then laughing at us.
"ah" isn't a consonant exactly
Powerwolf live is something every metal fan should witness, the metall-mass. \m/
“Music is the strongest form of magic.” That is a wonderful and amazing interpretation. Thanks Elizabeth for the passion and awesome analysis.
If you want symphonic elements and a focus on great costumes as part of the presentation Fleshgod Apocalypse and Carach Angren are great. If you’re looking for more metal with a gothic touch bands like My Dying Bride and Orphans of Dusk are both amazing and worth checking out.
the reason i started watching the channel at all is bc she breaks down singers vocals and is describing how vocal magic works physically and i just cant get over it.
music is magic, and this is one of the reasons i stopped listening to music with lyrics for the most part. you must be vigilant and guard your mind from influence.
Please check out "Devil's plaything" from Danzig 😎
awesome, recently got into powerwolf
I got to hear them live at Wacken in 2022 - his voice was absolutly INSANE!!! The Technique, Sound and Show where simply amazing... I love them
One of my favourite things about powerwolf is they feel tailor made to have on in the background while doing anything Warhammer 40K related.
Your excitement is so contagious!!! I love it! My will be done is awesome single.
Yess!! Absolutely love this song and so hyped to get to see them in New York next month
You are having way too much fun! Love it! Thank you for the introduction to Powerwolf! You rock Lizzy!
I'm still waiting for a vocal analysis of one of the Powerwolf's orchestral versions with Attila's vocal. They're featured in "The History Of Heresy II (2009-2012)" album. Really worth listening to
Cheers!
Powerwolf are really great!
I've had the pleasure to see them live last summer at RockHarz-Festival in Germany.
It was an amazing show!
⚒
I don't know if folk have already recommended this, but! if you want a gander into Attila singing Full Classical, I cannot recommend the Orchestral version of Moscow After Dark enough! It's the song that made me fall in love with the boys and it is Very Much worth a listen to for Attila's opera vocals!
On your recommendation I went and added Moscow After Dark orchestral to my Spotify and thank you so much. It’s beautiful.
Powerwolf are brilliant. Saw them live in Berlin in '22 and they rocked the house.
Thank you! I love watching your videos such great insights!! Would love to see what you make of Atilla's voice in one of Powerwolf's more ballad type songs such as Where the Wild Wolves have Gone or Let there be night.
Beautiful to see you embrace Metal so intensely now!
I've been discovering Powerwolf myself over the past year and now they are the absolute perfection of Powermetal for me.
I recommend checking out their orchestral version of the sacrament of sin album as well as the newer single sainted by the storm.
I love how you're enjoying this power metal rabbithole! Your interview with Hansi was just such an amazing couple of hours. I can't say enough how much Battle Beast and their singer Noora Louhimo fits neatly into this arc. Here in Finland, music is taught from year one at school alongside languages so there's an extensive degree of musical fluency here and many musicians with technical competence that might not have discovered their range of abilities if introduced to music at a later age. Either that or you could look at it as the musical "muscle" is developed from an early age where its use becomes most natural like riding a bike. Battle Beast have a bunch of music videos around RUclips such as "Eye Of The Storm" which is straight power metal pop, however their older track "Straight To The Heart" as part of the Tuska Utopia series, filmed live in a forest during the pandemic is a perfect slice of how they sound live, and how Noora's voice is just an absolute powerhouse! Operatic, but with a very Bonnie Tyler-esque sort of husky tonality to her voice and 10x more powerful in delivery. Amazing to witness firsthand in the front row as well!
Atilla has always been a great vocalist. My favourite recordings of him are all from Bible of the Beast. Operatic/classical but also gritty. His voice really shines on that album.
I saw these guys at download festival 2022 and was blown away by them. Amazing band, awesome vocals... but also, they really had a stage presence and got the crowd super involved. Now one of my favourites of the power metal genre.
seen them live front row! One of the best memories ever! Gonna see them again this year! Cant wait
Your reactions are bang on with mine. The pieces you go nuts over are the same ones I keep listening to over and over.
Saw them two months ago, they are more amazing than ever! Always a great time!
Great video again Elizabeth! It's so cool watching you fall in love with metal! It really is amazing music isn't it? Peace ❤️☺️
Everything Elizabeth is saying about Powerwolf is spot on. You can't listen to Powerwolf without feeling just overwhelmed with the power. Powerwolf and Battle Beast would a phenomenal duo
You need a tea time interview with Atilla. Would love to get the answers on his background
i love listening to you talk and seeing you geek out to this :)
Awesome video! This song is incredible! Love the drum parts! Triplets on the kick! Like in 'Faster Than The Flame' ! So much fun to play! Attilas voice is so cool! Roel is such a great drummer! 🤘🤘🤘
Very dramatic. If Wagner were alive today this is the sort of music I think he would be making😃. But he would probably have a massive orchestra backing it up. & A huge choir too. I'd love to hear this done that way
I know you get lots of recommendations for songs and band's.
But Japanese metal goddess Lovebites new track will blow your head off.
"Judgement Day" it's called. Left me breathless.
It is so fascinating to watch you fall more and more in Love with Metal 💕 and you are such a charismatic Person. keep going 🤗
Powerwolf are also really great live, saw them live in 2022 twice, for the first time as opener and for the second time as headliner on their own tour, it was really amazing and fun, would definetly recommend to go if you ever get the chance!! I will also see them live again this year :)
LOVE to see your reactions to stuff I love! *happy dancing 😻🤭💫
Keep doing this. Its just so much fun.
Hello there! I have a suggestion that might blow you away. Technically it's two... the band is called Melodicka Bros. Two Italian brothers who deserve some love and the songs you definitely should listen to are don't worry be happy and Barbie Girl. This band changed these songs forever for me.
Where The Wild Wolves Have Gone and Sacramental Sister are more super duper uper great songs of theirs that I just love. The vocals on the chorus is just gorgeous. Atilla has a crazy powerful and mesmerizing voice.
Major Edit: new favorite No Prayer At Midnight. Also a must
I saw (and heard) Powerwolf for the first time at Download festival in June last year... They were amazing
As someone who has recently seen them live they are amazing and if anything he sounds better live
We as a Charismatic community needs to Unite and come together and make Atilla sit down with a cup of tea or coffee and talk to Elizabeth.
I love your enthusiastic joy in music, but I am completely charmed by your geek-out over the costumes.
I saw them in November last year and he's just as good live as he is in the studio!
This was cool. Thanks for introducing me to Powerwolf Elizabeth. Thank you for sharing this video with us. May you have a good one. Have fun take care.
I'm off to watch that video now and maybe check out other stuff by them. Haha
I've seen Powerwolf live twice, and they're fantastic. Atilla's voice is amazing live.
Awesome analysis. I really enjoyed watching it :) - and I totally agree with you on the opera stage idea - wanna see the faces of the audience xD.
Just a couple of things I'd like to add:
For someone having German as native language the Latin pronunciation is fairly easy. At least if you use classical Latin and not ecclesiastical Latin. So it is no surprise that this sounds well done by him. Though the Latin itself in the lyrics is understandable but not always grammatically correct ^^
I liked a lot that you pointed out how powerful his voice is during the music. On tour, he pulls this off a couple of shows in a row. Quite impressive - and for me the perfect voice for the more fantasy inspired theme so many power metal bands go for. I mean most fantasy themed stories are heavily inspired by the middle ages... The only other vocalist that comes to my mind that also could incorporate this impression into Power Metal was Sir Christopher Lee, who also has had classical training and sang a duet with the Power Metal band Rhapsody of Fire, named "the wizard's dream".
But to be fair, I am normally not listening to western metal that much as many bands bored me. Powerwolf is the band that got me back into listening more to western bands. My expertise lies in Japanese metal, where most vocalists sound very different. If you have the time you might want to listen to a band called "Dir en Grey" - their vocalist Kyo is exceptional. Very distinctive voice, many different techniques. I'd recommend "Revelation of Mankind" from their 2014 release. Shows a broad spectrum of his techniques and I know from experience that he can pull that off live. For his higher notes, "Uroko" is also a suggestion to listen to as in Revelation they are only audible sparsely.
Good band, good song, good analysis as always.
My personal favourite from Powerwolf is Army of Night.
Also if i may make two suggestions for you to listen to. One is Nita Strauss & Alissa White-Gluz - The wolf you feed, and the other is the song voted the best metal song of the year 2022, Arch Enemy - Handshake with hell.
Sweet! A new band to me that's good. Thanks!
"Sanctus Dominus" and "Armata Strigoi" are must listens for Powerwolf
I'm surprised you haven't analyzed GHOST yet. Check them out, I think you would enjoy both the music and the humorous theatrics. There's a whole story to dive into with that band which I feel is exactly your thing!
Gonna see them on Valentine s day, cant wait
Powerwolf is my jam, I love all their stuff!
For something a little more lighthearted (and quite cheesy) I recommend Twilight Force, a Swedish speed fantasy metalband, for example Dawn of the dragonstar ruclips.net/video/qmHOIDUApfA/видео.html
They reminded me of a side-project of gloryhammer's new voçalist and and a guitarist from a band called Hellion which is all about magic the gathering.
And of the song is a 12 min epic called Oath of the Gatewatch featuring Brittney Slayes;
ruclips.net/video/lNgna-Al18c/видео.html
Agreed! I went to school with Christian an some of the guys in Twilight Force, they´re great guys and Christian is a phenomenal singer.
I haven't heard of these guys but I liked this video too! Also, for future reference, when you pause a video you can then move frame by frame with the > and < keys
Ugghhh, watching and hearing someone else get as excited about armor and vocal talent as I do... well, can honestly say I never knew I needed to see and hear that until... this. Wow.
You have to do Resurrection by Erection by them (the old version is slightly better than the new one, but they are similar enough not to be a problem). It's one of their most amazing songs.
And an amazingly clever song too, in their tongue-in-cheek way, which is a real bonus. Whoever only "hears" the chorus misses out on some pretty deep, though humorous, lines!
Rised from the little Saarland to conquer the world. :) Their concert in December in their "Hometown" Saarbrücken was amazing. Maybe as a result of this 2 year pandemic desaster, the crowd was so enthusiastic, the band showed so much passion and joy (ok i had to admit that they do it everytime). It was a great evening with some goosebombs (Where the wild wolves have gone) and a lot of headbanging. :) Can´t await July when they will return for an Open Air.
I met them once after their gig on a tiny Metal Festival in Hamburg, Germany - really nice guys
Hello ms (mrs) Zharoff
I love the way, you are analiysing the voices of my favorit music
Greetings from Germany
This was a joy to wake up to! A random recommendation, but if you enjoy the armor and fantasy themes, you should totally check out Feuerschwanz's Das Herz Eines Drachen music video. It's got such a fantastic atmosphere, and hits you in all the right emotional ways too!
Powerwolf 🥰 my favorite band ever!! 💜
🤦♂
I stumbled across this channel only recently, but I have absolutely fallen in love with it. Many of these videos are of songs and bands that I have listened to for most of my life, and seeing the reactions that Elizabeth has is just awesome :)
On a side note, I couldn't see any Hammerfall songs on here yet, so I would like to suggest them. Joacim Cans has an amazing voice in my opinion. Perhaps songs like Last Man Standing or Always Will Be, but I'd also be interested to see what other people think.
I GASPED YEEEESSSS POWERWOLF LETS GOOOOOOOO
and his name is Atilla. wow I love this high pitch male voice. So good
Hi !! Thanks for the analysis. It's always fun to watch you having so much fun listing to metal music. I recently rewatched your Lara Fabian's videos, and i think that you should listen to "Requiem pour un fou". I recommend you the live version of 1998 which is a duet between Lara and Johnny Hallyday. This duet is one of the most iconic pieces of French songs. The way Lara adapts her ton to Johnny's one is amazing ! You need to check that out. Best wishes for 2023.
Suggestion time! Red Handed Denial - “Father Said” (Lauren Babic live one take performance) Much more recent version of Lauren who can sing beautifully and scream with the best of them. The lyrics are very personal to her too and is worth listening for both her voice and the story.
If Powerwolf should ever have a concert close to where you're living you should definitely go. They have such a great live performance and great crowd interaction. And somehow Attila manages to sound even better than on the records
Karsten Brill aka "Attila Dom" is a powerful vocalist and suits this type of music perfectly. This truly is some fun music for the Charismatic Voice audience. Great choice and insightful commentary. Germany really does have some great rock music artists. For some reason, perhaps costumes, PW reminds me of Norway's Dimmu Borgir which is a symphonic black metal band that started same year as PW. Mr. Brill is indeed one of the most powerful vocalists in any musical genre.
That armor is quite probably a film prop, knitted shirt and plastic armor used for extras but low light and color filter make fantastic job.
