- Demons and carnal lust mixed with insane vocals and some wicked organs makes for one interesting foray into one of Powerwolf's greatests! This is cut from their new cinematic metal event "The Monumental Mass", and I am absolutely delighted to get to share this with all of you!
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Powerwolf performing "Demons Are A Girl's Best Friend" for the first time.

This one is easy:
- Diamonds: cold, not very cuddly, won't bring snacks to bed
- Demons: warm (hot even), extremely cuddly, will bring snacks to bed
What is there left to discuss?
True. Will definately switch thr wifes christmas present from a diamond to a small demon. Any entry levels you can recommend?😉
@@Adi031978 You can find plenty of them at your local cat shelter.
And if they like you enough they might bring diamonds with them. So win win
Demons are also far more horny than diamonds. I mean they have 2 of them!
lol preach! Also even taking demons out of the equation, I NEVER understood people's obsession with diamonds, they're kinda shiny transparent rocks? I get a bit more sapphires, emeralds, rubies, cause hot damn those colors are amazing, still wouldn't pay thousands for a ring with one of them on it tho, but fricking diamonds??? I just don't see it. "Diamonds are a girl's best friend" guess I'm not a girl 😂
Powerwolf's lead *IS* a classically trained operatic baritone, so it makes sense that he's as good as he is.
Here is something he did in the past. Classical, indeed ;-) ruclips.net/video/QAV8qa41Tck/видео.html
dont tell them how he was recruited for the Band ;) a poor, classical trained singer, who had no idea of Metal Music....and suddenly🐺

Getting closer and closer to "where the wild wolves have gone" :) can't wait for more Powerwolf :)
WE NEED IT !!!
@@aarakasi All we need, is blood x)
I second "Where the Wild Wolves Have Gone".
Where the Wild Wolves Have Gone is such a powerful song.
Hello Elizabeth when are you going to react to Megadeth??
Fun fact:
Not long ago, Powerwolf released a "reboot" of this song, featuring the one and only Alissa White-Gluz. Many love it (some hate it) but in case you want to resume your journey with Arch Enemy, it's a must!
Came here to say the same.
I like the accoustic version
I love that version, but I do wish she had used her beautiful clean voice on it. I get why some folks dont dig it tho
And I am pretty sure Elizabeth would go nuts over the 2 costumes that Alissa wears in that video ;-)
And then go to Angela Gossows' work.
Especially "Silver Wing"
"I feel like Karsten's character is... tempting them"
Also Karsten: *RRRRRRRESURECTIOOOON BY ERECTIOOOON*
You absolutely need to check out "Where the wild wolves have gone". One of their best songs, and the music video will make you fall in love with the band all over again.
Agreed! Its an awesome song and the video shows what an awesome group they are
Wholly agree... I was coming into the comments specifically to recommend this one myself, and you beat me to it! The 2018 Recap and Thank You video in particular is what I recommend... it has scenes of them applying their make-up as they get ready for a show.
Also Alive or Undead, these songs are similar a bit, but in my opinion the later one is even more powerful than where the wild wolves have gone
Definitely the best song on an album
Another Powerfull voice you could take a look at is Nora from Battlebeast, especially with songs like Beyond the burning sky or Eye of the storm
Yes!! Battlebeast! Noora's voice is amazing.
I was thinking of resurection by eraction cover 😆 lol
YES I second that
There's also Delta Rae, particularly "Bottom of the River" - when I first heard it, I was *shocked* that those notes with that power came out of that particular singer.
Yes! Nora is amazing! The first time I heard Battle Beast was at a live show and Nora exploding onto the stage with the scream at the beginning of "Straight to the Heart" was the fastest I have completely fallen in love with a band.
Personally I think you should have done “Resurrection by Erection” because it’s funny
But this song is amazing too
I even like the Battle Beast cover of this song more than the original 😊
@@SilvaLuna Nah, got to be the version with Alestorm's Christopher Bowes on vocals while doing his pirate voice.
@@GeordieSwordsman a true work of art
@@GeordieSwordsmanthat version with Christopher Bowes was my official first experience with pirate metal. It’s good.
I saw them (again) at Rockharz Open Air Festival in Gernany a few days ago - all of their songs are made to make the audience sing with them - they know not only how to make good songs, they are very talented entertainers 🤘
I can relate, after 2 years of abstinence a total blast 🤘
And their tour diary from Rockharz is also an awesome video.
certainly one of the "must see" live bands that you should catch whenever you get the chance - I've seen them 4 times already and will gladly watch more of their shows!
This original version vs the version with Alissa White-Gluz - can't decide which one is better.
But the one with Alissa quite turns the roles upside down. Which I love.
Original is good but i prefer alissa for the costum and that her voice is amazing and think Liz would love the costum to ;)
Imo the version with Alissa is the superior one.
Imperial Age does a version of this that is awesome also.
@@stpasc Yes, Jane Odintsova was fantastic in the Imperial Age version.
the original is best, cause this song dosent fit for death metal, maybe we drink your blood is better for death metal

Very epic... A real call for an Elizabeth analysis!
Edit : Oh wait...Elizabeth and Attila in a Phantom of the Opera cover...What a show!
I really want Attila to make covers!
@@ajtatosmano2 powerwolf actually have some covers
@@Idontwanttoexistt I know, I love many of them...but they are mostly classic metal songs and not theatre/opera. if such covers exist I demand a link :D
"Makes you want to sing aling"?? I legit can't NOT sing along. This was the song that hooked me onto them like... 4 ish years ago
Atillas voice has always given me goosebumps. It's so velvety I just want him to sing me to sleep
Perfect song for you as an opera singer to review and analyze is Call of Destiny by Xandria. It’s a Gothic Melodic Metal band with a female Opera singer ☺️
@TheCharismaticVoice
Dianne’s stuff with Ex Libris is amazing as well. The Motherland is one of my favorites
Great call, I would also recommend Nightfall. It's a shame Dianne isn't with them anymore, her voice is amazing!
Gothic metal deserves more appearences in the channel!! Xandria, Draconian or Theater of Tragedy with Liv
@@misterr3653 don’t forget nightwish
I cannot express how much this channel makes me happy. I was one of two avid metalheads in my college music program (early music history and audio engineering, to the disdain of all the performance majors,) and it just gives me so much joy to see an opera singer loving metal when so much of my experience was defined by the exclusivity of the classical world. We're allowed to just be passionate about all genres!
Everything Powerwolf does is a masterpiece performance. Karsten's vocals are ridiculous. I also love the version with Alissa being her vocals add different flare to this song. The Monumental Mass album is pure fire. Powerwolf is headling an EU tour with DragonForce & Warkings. DragonForce's Herman Li streamed the entire NA DragonForce tour earlier this year and plans to stream at least the DragonForce portion of the Powerwolf tour if not the entire show.
For having seen them live, its incredible how the pianist can be as much of a frontman as attila
I just bought the Powerwolf Monumental Mass DVD and OMG you _must_ watch the entire thing. Even if you don't react to it (which would probably take like six hours!), you must see it. It's absolutely amazing and will floor you in the best way!
What I love most about your analysis is your expression. You could instantly tell you were instantly hooked. This band has it's own unique sound and their visuals are just over the top. Great analysis! (Also the expression on your face when the nuns got naughty lol)
Thank you so much for your videos. You help me appreciate some of my most loved tunes another way, with extra layers of details, and that's such a pleasure to rediscover them this way ! Thank you so much.
I love how your face just lights up when you get excited
Powerwolf became an instant favourite back when I discovered them. Their use of orchestra, choir and church organ and the way they spread their chords wide over these instruments give their songs a richness that can be like running headlong into a wall of sound only to find yourself in a mirror maze. Then they use enjambment to keep their lyrics dynamic over all that sound. I happen to like baroque choir music, so this band was an amazing find for me.
Would love to see a interview with Attila. I think he would be really interesting. Great video!
In this performance they really put an effort in the visual aspect being related to the themes of the songs they performed, as they change the stage setting with each chapter. I hope you get to react to Epica's Omega Alive, specially Unchain Utopia or The Skeleton Key, and it would be also fun to see Loser from Ayreon Universe 'cause that one has quite a bit of acting and is pretty unique
I love how you managed to list almost every single reason why I love Powerwolf in general and this song in particular through the course of one analysis.
They're very good live as well. Their sets are elaborate and gothic like here and they have excellent stagecraft and work the crowd well. The Keyboardist acts kind of like a foil to Atilla as the lead guiding the crowd so they build engagement between different chunks of the audience as you end up on the side of one or the other.
They also make use of lots of 'aaahs' and 'woahoahoah' etc. type vocal...things. Which are really easy to guide a crowd to do, there's no vocals just making a sound and rising or falling so everyone can get involved without really knowing what's happening.
Great song.
Have seen Powerwolf live on stage last week performing it.
It was a fantastic Metal Mass Event! Pure party and sing-along. ⚒
Thank you for the great analysis; Ma'am! 🤩
I'd love to see you talk about bjork - human behavior! (live at the royal opera house) It's super musically interesting and she does some stuff with her voice that I'd love to have explained cause it sound so different to pretty much anything else I've heard. I also think you'd enjoy her stage presence!
Bjork would be great for here to do. When you're basically your own genre, that says something. She's Bjork, but she does have an amazing voice. It would be an amazing Tea Time
Oh, absolutely! She _needs_ to take a look at Björk! 🥰
Powerwolf always delivers! On an unrelated note, please react to and analyze Nils Molin's singing in Dynazty's latest single "Natural Born Killer." I do believe Nils is one of the best metal vocalists of his generation and I'd love to know more about his voice, range, and whatnot. I'm sure you'll be fascinated by it! Thank you!
Yesss, more Powerwolf! Glad you've decided to return to the heavy metal Mass sister! You really can't go wrong with anything PW has done. For a different side of Brother Attila's abilities, I suggest "Where The Wild Wolves Have Gone." It's more of a ballad than a heavy headbanger like this.
yay, more Powerwolf! Can't wait to see the premiere. I think I'll be able to make it tomorrow.
Saw them two weeks ago on the Rockharz again (together with Beast in Black and a bunch of others). Always a pleasure, definitely one of the absolute highlights!
Have you considered listening to Tallah?
They have a one-shot vocal take of one of their best songs "Overconfidence" right form the vocal booth and it's crazy impressive, lots of range. Think it'd be up your street.
One thing I love about Powerwolf is the band with the character they portray speak to the duality of mankind. How they can be these cursed werewolf character driven by lust and a never ending hunger for flesh and blood and carnal things but at the same time they have songs and messages that are very religious and very crusaderesque. It goes to show that even if mankind is flawed and cursed there is still hope there and a message that anyone can be used for a greater purpose.
Love your videos, and I would really love an interview with you and Atilla!
I'd love to see you react to Ville Valo, from "HIM". Others who agree what song do ya think would be best? I feel "Venus Doom" has some great moments.
I'd start with older songs, something from Razorblade Romance, like Join me in Death or Right here in my arms perhaps?
@@ziba5517 Good point. Right here in my arms, would definetly be a great one to start with!
Funeral of Hearts, Join Me, Gone with the Sin or Summer Vin by Ville Valo and Natalie Avelon
If it was a Ballard I would go for "Bury me deep within your heart " his voice is very emotional there.
Or for a more rock sound "Buried alive by love" which shows his range more with a nice belt near the end.
But there are so many great songs to choose from its hard to choose One.
HIM as a band were so underrated I think. And sounded better live more powerful.
Passions killing floor, wicked game, and obv Wings of a Butterfly
Whooo, Im pumped!
The Monumental Mass was/is such a great show, Powerwolf really outdid themselves here.
The chuch/mess theme is a thing through out their concerts. Every performance they cheer with the crowd and hold the "Holy metal mess". It is so awesome of a performance
Hey Elizabeth! I'm so surprised that you've never reviewed Avenged Sevenfold on your channel!!!
I just watched the Phil Collins "In the Air Tonight" video, and you were blown away by the fact that he could sing while drumming. But an even better example of that sort of talent was Jimmy "The Rev" from Avenged Sevenfold (R.I.P.), in songs like "A Little Piece of Heaven" or "Afterlife"! But I think that you reacting to "A Little Piece of Heaven" would be an awesome video for sure!!!
Thanks! Loving your incredible work!
Lol straight into "A little piece of heaven"? Are you trying to scare her away 🤣? Maybe try afterlife 1st before we get into that one.
@@Spartanbot1001 Oh, I think she'd enjoy A little piece of heaven. Maybe for halloween time?
@@Spartanbot1001 Loll well I suggested it mainly because of the operatic quality that the song has, with multiple "acts" and overarching storyline. With a distinct beginning, middle, and ending; a set-up, climax, and a resolution!
@@HauntedLuci i love the song its just I've seen at least 2 other reactors go into it blind and not have a good time w/ it. Let's just say I'm always worried about mental scaring lol.
@@Spartanbot1001 understandable, and I absolutely think she should do Afterlife as well!
But I think Elizabeth is very optimistic, and open-minded enough to understand it's just the artistic choice in styling. Besides, she's already been exposed to Lorna Shore and Slaughter to Prevail! Pretty sure she can deal with a mildly-graphic cartoon 😂
Very excited for this one 😍 powerwolf has such a gorgeous sound.
I'd love to hear you react to some Jon Batiste. Completely different genre and style. But maybe FREEDOM.
I think you'll love his positivity and energy

Elizabeth was talking about how physical structure of a singer will mostly predict voice type, how about a lady with a wagnerian soprano type (and POWER) singing in the style of Dio? Noora Louhimo of Battle Beast is who I'm describing.
We are going to have a blast with an analyses of the incrdible runs she does like they're easy and of the almost unique control over distortion.
Great oportunity for a bit of Tea Time, Noora has done interviews with smaller reaction channels and they're promoting a new album from early in the year, strike while the iron is hot, and all that...
We can start with Master of Illusion ruclips.net/video/6sLSyTEXfCI/видео.html
or Hammerhand or Straigth to the Heart from the Bloodstock show if E and Kirk are feelin nostalgic by this time of the year. ruclips.net/video/_o16Y2I7x8M/видео.html

I've seen Powerwolf live twice in the last few months. Great live shows.
So glad you're gonna react to songs from the monument mass!!
Thank you for this reaction, PW deserve a wide recognition! Please invite Atilla for a cup of tea and an interview!
I'm so happy you finally found powerwolf. I've suggested it a few times now. I love them.
POWERWOLF are an event allright. The first time I saw this video-concert rendition, but I never had any doubt in me those nuns were gonna drop their garments! \m/ The sound of the band is presented here in its bare "essentials", and there are numerous songs in their catalogue I love way better, but you are correct about the key change at the end, after drawing it all back, doing wonders for the perception. (Still I would try NIGHTWISH's 'Ever Dream" for a similar impact taken to another level!).
The greatest draw of POWERWOLF is of course Attila Dorn's cavernous (is there such a term as "vaulty") vocals. They sound like they belong in a Gothic church. And the whole theme of werewolves against heretics (which it basically is) has yet to get old! Keep with this band, and I am going to come back running, every time!
P. S.: Would there be any chance to arrange for a cup of tea (or blood...) with Attila, Falk (I imagine he ought to be a blast of a Gesprächspartner!) or any of them?
P. P. S.: If fire onstage captivates you, "Fire and Forgive" is a song to go for. I don't know about the latest version, but Attila used to bring flamethrowers (!) onstage.
P. P. S. 2: Have you already analyzed "Resurrection by Erection"? Seriously, it is one of their cleverest songs. If one is in the mood to listen, it even bears a message. A true sermon.
He sounds exactly the same live as in the video clips. He is just a very gifted singer that is classical trained + know how to use pop and metal vocals and technics. I think it all boils down to just a great skilled singer with a lot of control.
Cannot wait for her to check out Volbeat, the singer's got an UNCANNY ability to make almost all notes sound eerily similar
Powerwolf is great. I wish they would do a US run…
I mean, I do sing along
Also that pregnant pause, is just spine tingling.
Cool sound. Haven't heard an organ like that since Type O Negative.
The way your eyes open and your iris grows when you like something is catching. Great reaction. Thanks for the amusement.
Powerwolf is sooooo good live. Seeing them at Wacken this year was by far my favorite set of the entire festival
Hey, awesome video again! I would looove to see you react to Colm McGuinness - My Mother Told Me (In Old Norse) - or anything else from Colm, that would be amazing
Ayreon - Day two Isolation (The human equation Live) If you like acting in an actual theatre with complete stage decoration, live (acoustic/rock/metal)band and lots of actors/singers like James labrie, Anneke van Giersbergen, Irene Janssen and many more than this is something awesome.
Keep up the good work Team Charismatic Voice! love your channel.
Haven't seen one, but love to see a reaction to "Make them Suffer" they have some really unique sounds with harsh and female led clean vocals
I honestly thought you would never do this video just because of the lyrics. This is one of my favorite Powerwolf songs. I will join the call for "Where the Wild Wolves Have Gone".
Saw them a little while before the lockdown happened. And I may or may not have a slight mancrush on the keyboardist. Him and the vocals carries this band hard during live shows. The energy that the keyboardist brings to a show is something I've rarely seen. I think the only other one I've seen that brings a similar energy is Sharon from Within Temptation. You can just tell that they love doing what they do, and when you're standing in the crowd, you can't help but love it.
Yes! Thank you for that, I love Falk's style and enthusiasm.
11:55 "They look very nice" lol
Great video, and really think your next powerwolf song reaction, should be "When the moon shines red"
Another great video... You should check out Therion. They are the pioneers of symphonic metal. They've been rockin' since the late 80's and switched to symphonic metal in the mid 90's. "Birth of Venus illegitima" is a perfect example of what they do.

"I told them I invented times new roman" by Dance Gavin Dance. The singer Jonny Craig is an absolute legend. Not the best individual but wow are his vocals absolutely phenominal. please check their older music out! They've gone through some lineup changes, with every change brought a totally new Dynamic but Jonny Craig will always have brought the best energy and passion.
I had the opportunity to be their for about the first 4-5 occasions they performed in Hungary. By the first I already loved them and knew most of their music (funny thing is originally i only listen to the first song i found because i saw the band name and thought it'll be trash, instantly loved it. It was Amen and Attack) and the way they actively work the audience.
It was so good to see that the very first time Attila had almost a hard time to get the audience do some of the more fun parts as here so many still don't speak english and they had no idea about the songs and then as they came here again and again the audience grew larger and larger, cosplays started to appear and everybody knew the songs and then Attila of course switched it up or made it a bit more tricky and fun.... I never had as much fun on a concert as i did on PW.
Please do more PW. i'd love to say do this or that song but.... there's sooooo many good ones. (Still, definitely do Where The Wild Wolves Have Gone :D )
It's a longshot but trying doesn't hurt. You should definitely react to Ancient Bards "In my arms".
If it can help tickle your interest Chase Carneson did a reaction an year or so ago and he was speechless through most of it :)
It's a symphonic metal band and I know you'd love the song and the work around it: Every song of every album (still more in the making) is a piece of one single fantasy story.
I found them relatively late and I'm still mad about that.
It's definitely one of the most underrated, or not widely known band at least, bands out there.
First time I’ve ever seen a Ancient Bards fan in the wild!
I first heard of them when I came across In The End
*As much as I love Alissa's voice in ARCH ENEMY, at least since "Handshake With Hell" everyone knows how great Alissa's clean vocals are. If she had sung the "remake" with her clean vocals, it would have been better. Just growl vocals alone don't fit to this song's character.* 🎵🔥🔥😈🔥🔥🎵
though it is acoustic, there's a version where she sung it with clean vocals
@@lazy_wizard *Where to find? On the Powerwolf single "Dancing with the Dead" they used apparently the same version as on the CD2 of the "Call of the Wild" album.* 🎵
I think it fitted perfectly since it was supposed to be demonic and powerful light, also those growls were different to anythin' she did before.
@@maxschmidt9461 Yes, but then she seems to sound demonic all the time. Since she has a very good clear voice, she should use it more often. The growling is slowly becoming boring, because it's always the same. With a clean voice she can do much more varitions and it would be a shame letting her true vocal abilities go to waste.
@@dr.phibesincrimson well, than you really don't have listened close enough, on everythin' Alissa did the last 1-2 years she varied her style and her growls sounded different, never heard her like in Demons Are A Girls Best Friend and haven't since. I think she's usin' her cleans enough, for Arch Enemy when it fits, for her solo stuff, includin' clean versions of songs she did with other musicians, in some colabs and of course on her upcomin' solo album (probably gonna be a mixture of different vocal styles)
I'd love to see your reaction to the version with Alyssa White-Gluz. She flips the script, makes it about female empowerment, and her vocal style is so different from Atilla, it's practically a different song.
Sounds almost the same as their original studio version (although the video might be slighty more racy?) They are AMAZING live, such vocal accuracy!
Literally the song I was thinking about suggesting! Such an amazing sound throughout!!!
Never did I expect to see Powerwolf on this channel. So glad they're on here.
Also, recommend the song "SAnctified with Dynamite" or "Army of the night. Two good songs from them
my first thought when I saw you were going to be reacting to this was "I wonder how she's going to take the stripper nuns" which in and of itself is a hilarious thing I never thought i'd say...
A comparison of Bon Scott and Brian Johnson from AC/DC would be awesome to see you do. Night Prowler is a pretty good Bon song, and for Brian there are a few that come to mind like Thunderstruck or You Shook Me All Night Long.
Brian is a pretty cool dude. He did this awesome interview of Dave Grohl that was on RUclips for a while before the production company made him take it down. Maybe reach out to him directly if you have an copy write issues.

Of course Brian Ware's suggestion is not supposed to be let down because of that it just hit me to throw that one in asa well. HAve a good day everyone
Time to do coleus sanctus by Powerwolf. The live at masters of rock 2015 is a damned good version of the song. I think the two most "blasphemous" (from a religious perspective) songs of theirs to date are resurrection by erection and coleus sanctus.
Just saw them live last night, incredible live performance and his voice is as powerful and clean live as in studio.
Thank you for doing a video about Powerwolf! I love this band, their songs are so epic and love the medieval warewolf theme. Please try to listen Killers with the cross or Son of a wolf!
Quite the production! Very well done, and exactly what one would expect from a band called Powerwolf!
The history of the church behind all this is extra fun too! Nuns would sometimes get pregnant while in the convent. A common story was a demon came in the night and got them pregnant. I THINK the song is referencing this idea, the demon is to blame for their mistake. A lot of their songs have some buried references like that, but this one, in particular, makes me chuckle.
I've never made a recommendation on this channel but I've been watching for a long time, thanks to you I've been introduced to Unleash the Archers and that was after watching a bunch of Jinjer Pisces reaction videos and then I came across your channel and then found your Unleash the Archer's ones. You introduced me to a lot of stuff and so I'm thankful for you and so let me tell you that that you need to listen to Coheed and Cambria. Claudio is an excellent fucking poet with words and his voice is something that you would imagine in like a dream state, like if you had a narrator singing in your head during a dream, and he doesn't exactly belt but his just natural high pitch is something you have to hear. As a fellow musician I am begging you to listen to him, his innate talent is truly something special. As far as songs go, the most obvious to listen to would be "Welcome Home", it's by far their most popular as far as their Spotify tells it, but other timeless wonders include "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3" and "Unheavenly Creatures" and a whole host of others. I don't think you've ever done a video of Coheed, I scrolled through all your stuff and didn't see em on there. Don't get me wrong, there are so many other artists that are worthy of your time and I don't blame you if you dont get to Coheed, but seeing so many of your videos, I think these guys would be completely in your ballpark. Please do "Unheavenly Creatures"

This is a live version of "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3" that's absolutely baller, not gonna lie, I'm having issues finding good live clips of the band and I know you love live stuff, this is my recommendation and you will see it posted on every video you do from here forward.
I would suggest that you listen (and even react? ) to "Demons and Wizards - Fiddler On the Green". If you do, read about the reason it was written and pay attention to the lyrics. I believe you will find it an extremely powerful piece.
I absolutely love this song, but they did an alternate version featuring Alissa White-Gluz (singer of Arch Enemy and The Agonist), which is actually my favorite version.
Same she does a amazing job and fits the song so well
😊 Been a while since demons were this NICE. And as always, such insightful analytical perspective in the analysis. Thank you.
